    Harry. Thank you so much for this info. I've had an arm injury due to improper swing which forced me to look into a proper swing. I've been learning from other creators but haven't swung recently. Your video really helped as I went to the range for the first time and kept my arm straight forcing my body to do the work. I hit the ball very well and gained 10 yards on my mid irons and wedges. Again, thank you.

    Excellent reason Harry why it so important to keep the left arm straight in the golf swing. I am always working on a straight left arm and a folded right arm in my golf swing. As you indicated, the problem for me in in this entire procedure is the lack of a full rotation in the backswing. This of course, leads to a lack of distance. I'll definitely be working on this Harry to correct the situation. Well Done!!!

    I struggle with flexibility but it helps me if I lift my left heel off the ground in the backswing. That helps a little to get a better turn and by extension a straighter right arm.

  • @alestev24
    @alestev24 Před měsícem +1

    I strongly believe that it is mainly a flexibility issue. When I try to keep the left arm straight in a slow motion backswing, I can feel exactly the point at which the muscles in my left back and around my left shoulder can't stretch properly to allow for the left arm remaining straight.

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  Před měsícem

      That's very interesting, and yes flexibility and mobility do play a part to achieving this. Can you also feel this stretch/ tension when you just rotate the body with your arms across the shoulders?

  • @pohoresky

    Seems to me the main reason people bend lead arm in backswing is because it is so much easier to stay in posture during the back swing. Keep lead arm straight in backswing makes one stand up or come out of posture and sway to the left. Pure and simple. Much ado about very little;

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  Před měsícem

      Thanks for commenting with your interesting concept, but this can be solved by simply learning how to rotate properly.

    • @pohoresky
      @pohoresky Před měsícem +1

      If it were only that simple it would not be a problem. Keeping lead arm straight in the back swing naturally promotes a sway of the head and upper body. Counteracting these sway forces off the ball is a common problem for a reason. Yes one can learn how to counteract the sway, but this solution is never a simple matter in practice since it is so natural and normal to sway off the ball with a straight arm compared to a bent arm. Gravity pure and simple is at work.

      Trying to keep the lead arm straight and swaying will take place because you struggle to rotate as mentioned earlier, this makes sense, but i'd advise taking a look at focusing on rotation and see if you can limit this which will help improve your ball striking. How's your golf going at the moment?

  • @kidpoker007
    @kidpoker007 Před měsícem +2

    I Think my issue is a flexibility issue...I've always had a very bent left arm...probably because I'm only 5'5 and most short peoplearen't as flexable as talk lanky people. My arms only go to shoulder height or parelle to the ground..nothing forlast 20 years has ever worked unfortunately to get my left arm even close to straight.

      Hi, thanks for commenting with your golf swing background. So with your troubles have you tried rotating more in the backswing? (these tips in this video). If not, i'd advise giving them a try and if your still struggling you can follow me on Skillest and send your swing over for me to have a look at.
