Hi it's Minori! Welcome to my second channel! This is where I upload videos where I am just chilling and playing with toys, and videos that didn't make my main channel. Please visit my main channel for more videos!!
I grew up watching my classmates bringing these fancy and expensive pencil boxes...it's soo nostalgic...although I never got the opportunity to own one, but realising how far I made without having those is such a good feeling..although the eight year old me would have done anything to get one of those things...even now I love cool stationeries like those aesthetic and vintage stickers or washi tapes but my parents think they are a waste of 💰 soo I diy them 🤗
aww i wish i could’ve gave 8 year old you one of these 😭💗💗
as a girl who owned one believe me they suck, some little rust somewhere and you done with it, once it slips and falls down you done with it, phew and if the magnet gets spoiled you done you cant even use it like a normal one and then my parents didn't even buy me a new one it suked the shiet out of me. But then again i understand you coz they looked pretty and expensive but that's it . those little shiets
I was one of the fairly poor kids in my class but my mom worked as a cashier at a department store and got a great employee discount. She brought me home a Hello Kitty box similar to these and I loved it! My classmates were jealous. I wonder now what happened to it? I got it in 1977 or 1978.
Aww.samee
Me too, my classmates had fancy pencilcases that were worth my father’s salary for a week and I used to make pencilcases for me out of shoeboxes. I think poverty brings creativity 😂
In the 80s in Greece, we had a plethora of Japanese imported toys and stationery. Essentially, many of us grew up surrounded by Japanese products, often without realizing the extent of our exposure to them.
We experienced the same in Spain. These kind of pencils cases were easy to find in particular and almost every kid had one or had sibblins who had one.
same here in Portugal, but i’m from the 00’s. My grandad bought me one of these pencil cases, it was cute but so fragile. There’s still a lot of japanese toys/influence around here it’s interesting
Same in Australia, but in the 00's and 2010's
ναι ρε φιλεεε!!!
same here in France/Switzerland !
I had some pencil cases like these when young, although not with these exact designs of course. I loved playing with it and just opening all the different compartments. A sort of fidget toy before that concept even existed for sure.
Same here .. like batman spider man, James bond , transformers etc
So many variations
Yes exactlyyy my adhd kicked in hard with these
i loved these pencil cases growing up in the 2010s! the good quality ones with multiple features (like the first red hk case in the video) were a bit pricey but the basic ones were just as cute! such fun times fr
Didn't even know these existed and I was 8 in 2010
@@LyraPyxisVT I was a little kid in the mid 00's and i had a bunch of these pencil cases, it's probably less common where you live?
i was to, i was born in the early 2000s, but i didnt start going to elementary school till around 2008@@worstusernameintheworld9871
how did I end up here ?
I love them. We still have similar in the U.K. I grew up with pencil cases like these. I know showing my age. 😂❤❤❤❤❤
They still exist if you know where to look xD
Same for me. These bring back so many memories.
There's a store called Smiggle that make them still. My daughter had them when she was little
@@notyouraveragewitchxback in primary school everyone was so proud to show off their snuggle stationary
Smiggle*
How crazy is that I remember having these kind if pencil boxes as a child in the 80's and they were rather easy to find in Spain's stationary shops. Literally most of my classmates had one.
In México too, they were everywhere for a good while, and mine wasn't expensive, they were cheap, but now that I think about it, they could have been chinese copies or something 😂
we had the spanish version "Cuca Dols "that was amazing
As someone who grew up loving stationary (and still do!) I absolutely love this video! Its so interesting to see the different cases and different compartments. Thank you for showing us these cases because I'm not sure if i would ever see cases like these had you not shown it. :)
"stationary" means the next but one word you used😆
@@JagoffCitizen You're right, most people do not know that. "Stationery" (is a noun) means school supplies, and "stationary" (is an adjective) means anything that is still.
I love that house one, i've never seen anything like it before! Personally, as an artist with no space for a decent table, I like the black one, it would be perfect for my tiny art table and it's multi-functional. I had a similar pencil case as the first one with the dail. I got it at Disneyland Paris back in the 90's and there were buttons for each compartment and a magnetic lid. I spent more time launching a large compartment for protractors/extra pencils than I did actually using it as a pencil case.
I'm Aussie and I had a couple of similar pencil cases to the 3rd one in the mid 80's. They were somewhat popular at the time.
I actually have a few of these, also vintage. We have a lot of people who are of Asian descent living here in WA state (specifically around Seattle) so a lot of things from overseas countries can end up in our thrift stores. That's how I got mine. They're so cute and I wish we had them in America...useful and adorable lol.
Mine are pretty basic when compared to the Hello Kitty or the Magical House ones you have. I think my favorite is between those two...they're both awesome.
My aunt gave me one for my birthday 😅. Its still in mint condition. It's a simpler one
Washington?
I actually had pencil cases similar to those. The more pop ups or doors you had on your case, the more you felt superior. That was then
I was in school in the 70s and 80s. In the US these kinds of pencil cases were not common. We were encouraged to bring a cigar box from home that we could decorate. Cigar boxes were so uncommon that stores that sold school supplies had them, and they were made for pencils and erasers, never had cigars in them! I think the tray in the first box you showed was meant only as a flat surface to write on, not storage. My favorite was the dollhouse one.😊
The tray is for rulers.
They were pretty common in Hawai'i
They were very common where I lived in southern California.
I always loved these pencil cases that have compartments and pop-out mechanisms. Very nostalgic..brings back memories growing up
😲 I love these so much!!! I had a boring pencil box growing up. They had no compartments and you just tossed everything inside of it and went about business.
The Magical House one is so unique and cute! Reminds me of Polly Pocket. I would have loved having it as a kid! Heck... I would love having it now! 😂
As someone who grew up in the 80s/90s and since childhood has loved stationery, still does, and I’m still collecting, I missed these! I had some as a child in Puerto Rico and there were also so many reproductions made with different front covers. I traveled to SKorea for a few months, visited Japan and got some cute stationery. This is all to say that on my way back I had a layover in Shanghai and I bought some of those at the airport to s]give to my friend’s kids. I wished I kept one for myself. 😅
Also, I had a couple and one was very similar to that first red Hello Kitty one s]you showed; it just didn’t have the dial, it was all buttons and pulls and I think (it’s been a minute😅) it look like a bus.
OMG! As an 80's kid, I had one of those pencil cases!!! You brought so many nice and cozy memories from watching this video. Thanks! 💓
I got so much nostalgia from watching this! In the 90s, I had 3 pencil cases with similar features, and 2 of them had the buttons to open up different compartments, but the feature I loved the most was the ability to set the date with wheels on one of them. I ended up giving them to my niece, but very reluctantly!
There were many versions of these pencils cases here in the UK in the 1980's and here they contained all of the stationery items, not just paper place holders.
I remember girls in my class having similar pencil cases back in elementary school, probably from Taiwan or Japan, since the most stuff back then were made in those countries. This September, when i was out to buy some stationery for my 7 years old niece, i saw some similar pencil cases after all these years, in a big store which sells mostly stuff from China, and i felt nostalgia.
I had a pencil case very similar to that Hello Kitty one when I was a kid back in the 90’s, but I’m from Spain! This feels so nostalgic 🥺
As a Hello Kitty fan, I love the HK, but then again I'm a stationery fan so I love them all! The house was awesome! Perhaps the little section in the house roof could be used to put your pencils in when you're doing your homework etc?
Thank you for doing this video. It does bring back memories over 20 years ago when I had one of these (not exact one). It meant a lot to me when my family got for me. Till this day I am so into these cute and useful supplies in life. My fav is the Hello Kitty and Sweet Home.
I remember as a kid back in the 90s i had something similar to that red hello kitty design but mine was green instead and had kerokeroppi as the mascot.
The one i had wasnt as advance with that dial thing to open different compartments but mine had many different compartments that flips out such as a compartment for pencil sharpener, scissors, ruler slots, memo pad, cellotape and even a flip out magnifying glass.
My favorite is the Hello Kitty one, what a marvel of engineering! I would love to have something like that when I was a kid.
Love you Minori ❤you are so inspiring for doing things you havent before and doing it multiple times not giving up and becoming better!! Thank you for all you do we adore you so much❤❤
I had one like this when I was a kid in the 90s in Argentina. It was sort of like the second one. I'm pretty sure the slim trays are for your geometry set. That was really useful, as mine kept getting buried in the bottom of my backpack and broken.
I had one of the hello kitty pencil cases growing up. Trying to explain to people how cool it was is so hard when they never seen it.
Soooo cute! I am showing my age I know (45) but I live in U.K. and I remember having a hello kitty one similar to this! these type of pencil cases were very on trend at the time and all the girls had them!😍
Also we collected and swapped “rubbers” or erasers as you call them. But they were novelty ones and you NEVER used them lol! So many times you would need a rubber in class and have a pocket full of your fav ones and nothing to actually “rub out” with 😂😂😂
Indeed Japanese stationery is the best. Keep up the good work as always, Minori.
I LOVE these cases! So fun. I recall dropping my pencil case like a bad habit once Star Wars came out! My big brother and I got the Deluxe Star Wars pencil case, metal lunch pal, bags, bedding, toys…I still have mine! I’m 55. They are on a shelf in my library. I will always be a Star Wars junkie. 😂
In the late 80s there were so many cool pencils cases like that with hidden compartments and all kinds of buttons. I always wanted one.
I had a pencil case like this as a child... Oops there goes my age!
I felt so organised and hi-tech 😂 ahhhh those were the days 💛
i'm an indian and i literally grew up using these type of stationary boxes..i remember we used to discuss who's box was the best in the whole class lol
loved the artsy one. convenient way to store brushes and have em all set up to paint. We had similar compartment ones in Puerto Rico back in the mid 80's
These pencil cases were my school life!!! I'm so sad to learn it's not the case anymore for the young ones
Even though japan has some weird and random stuff like these pencil cases but they are so cool! (Sorry i didn't comment in the last video 😅) and i also love that minori didn't throw stuff away that she loved instead she treasures them how nice of her 😊 ❤
Oh Minori you are such a delight. I love the background, so nice to see the green trees.
I remember that Hello Kitty one! I didn’t have one because my mom isn’t down with impractical items. But I had friends with them and I played with it too! It’s so cute! ❤❤❤
I had a Hello Kitty one back in the early 2000s in the US! I might still have it around somewhere... it was sort of similar to the Hello Kitty one here, but instead of the dial it had several buttons you could press to make the different areas pop out/up!
I had these kinda stationery at school, it was super fun. They were imported from Japan I didn't knew
i love the pencil cases they are so unique and some of them actually more convenient to use.
I had some of these in the 90s cuz they still made them. I loved the multiple cartridges that you could pop out and use. It was like a secret puzzle box.
The nostalgia
What a fantastic collection. I remember a few of these as I am 57yrs. I wish they still made fun items like this.
One more thing. You have such a sweet and kind personality and I enjoy your vids. Thank you for your content.
I had some of these pencil cases as a kid. They totally were distractions for kids for real. I remember flexing all these function and arranging where to store what during the class instead of listening to the teacher.
omg you unlocked a memory for me. I used to own that exact hello kitty pencil box when I was a kid and completely forgot about it!
I had a similar pencil case like this as a kid from Smiggle, I love pencil cases like this
I had one similar to the grey but used it more as a desk tidy than a pencil case, regular one for taking to school was just a basic 2 piece metal case that opened on a hinge although it was starwars themed.
From the paper in drawer in the first it looked like that part was meant for flat things like a protractor, longer ruler and set square
Aw I remember owning a case kinda like some of those when I was younger~ I love that Hello Kitty one, all those hidden compartments are so cute!
I had one of these box style "flip" pencil cases in the late 80s-it was light baby pink (around 88 or 89) & it mutli colored hearts on it. A classic mate gave it to me. It had places for pencils & a compartment for an eraser.
OMG, I had one of those Sanrio pencil cases! Thank you for unlocking this memory for me!!! I wonder if my mom still has it in her basement.
Yay minori thanks for another vid! I loved this video!❤❤❤
The first one was SO COOL but kinda violent 😂 I’d flinch every time I needed to open something on it
The Disney store in the 90’s would sell pencil cases just like this! My friend had so many of them, my favourite was a Minnie Mouse one, the top was squishy (filled with glitter & heart sequins & coloured gel) I had a Mattel/Barbie one.
I had two or three pencil cases like these that were all Sanrio themed! My dad got one for me on a trip probably in '99 or 2000 and I fell in love. They were my treasures and I felt so cool opening up all of the secret compartments, this has brought back such sweet memories. ☺
I had one like these as a kid. Loved them! A few months back I found one online and bought it. I was using multiple styluses (styli?) with different nibs and skins, etc. It has worked out really well. I’m thinking of buying a 2nd one for eyebrow and eyeliner pencils and pens. I stole the sharpener from the 1st one to use with those already. The 1st and the last on this video are so cool!
I always wanted one of these when I was younger, but we could never afford one, years later as an adult I started crafting as a hobby, and it was then that I found out that I have a secret addiction to all things stationary from pens, pencils, etc, note pads, and notebooks. It was quite a shock when I found out.
Oh my gosh, I'm in the UK and I had one of those black pencil cases when I was a kid, but in blue! I never thought I'd see it again or be able to find it again. Thank you bringing back the memories! I'm guessing it doesn't have any brand name on it, so it's going to be hard to find..
I LOVED those pencil cases. I would also have those cute little food erasers that separate into pieces and i would pretend to be a bakery with the pencil case 😭. Stationaries nowadays are more minimalist and although theyre still cute, i do miss my very extra, almost unusable stationaries lol
My aunt used to give me stuff like this from her trips, I remembered having a bunch of ones similar to the Hello kitty one, just not as complex, it has less compartments, less moving parts and the buttons are individual but it does the job, its not even a good pencil case but its so fun, I remember when the teacher isn't in class, my classmates would run around outside in the hall or talk among themselves and I'll be in my own world just playing with it, using my stationery as characters and props playing out a battle, the pencil case being a battle station and something as the monster, usually its the scissor, looking back it is kinda sad, shows how I don't have my friends if at all even now, but those were good times, simpler times, when all I had to think about was how the pencil soldiers is going to save the eraser and paper citizen from the scissor monster, the ending is usually them using the tape to restrain the movement of the scissor
I grew up in Japan and went to school in the early 70s. Back-to-school shopping was amazing, so many whimsical yet practical supplies. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I always wanted a Pochacco case just like this when I was in elementary school but it was more expensive than just the regular boring pencil cases with one big enclosure. I love that you were able to find some gems and in great condition!!
I love your videos so much! ❤
so much nostalgia! thank you for me of these stationary cases
These are so cute. The first one is definitely my favourite. Here in South Africa, my kids found some similar pencil cases. They have a couple that are similar to the first one. These have isolated spaces for a ruler, eraser, scissor and sharpner. All of these are included in the pencil case. Also has buttons that eject the items. One of these also has a pencil holder that can stand up.
When I was a child I would have loved these pencil cases/stationary cases. Even today I wouldn’t mind owning one. So cute!
I've seen these types of pencilcases recently. I'd definitely beg my parents for one of these. I love the second pencilcase's print. I can imagine it being pretty annoying having to constantly remove pencil shavings, replacing specially made items and placing pencils, but the erasers would probably stay clean
I’m obsessed with stuff like these! The first Sanrio one made me giddy!! How fun!! The last one is insane and I freaking love it!!!!!
I had a plastic pencil case like these in 1990's but it was only for the home use. That was because if you dropped a pencil case like these on floor the lid opened very easily and the contents went everywhere. It was easier to pick up all the pens and pencils from the floor at home than at school.
These are so cool , I love that one doubles as a toy house / set piece for little paper dolls or just mini dolls in general lol & the Black one is a nice mix of "mature feeling" yet potentially "childish" at the same time
Firstly, your voice has a great rhythm, effects a great soothing magic on listening ears .Moreover, its nice to see childhood memory once again it's pretty cool. Thanks
i remember i had one of those pencil cases!! loved them and saw a lot of variety from other classmate's jaapanese pencil cases
I feel like most kids with these pencil cases had no idea what to store in those compartments
The hello kitty one look like a great disability accesability tool if you can’t pick small things up very well or hold the sharpener
I had similar pencil case which belonged to my aunt, it had a big box for eraser, sharpener on the side, storage for pencils on both sides, pockets for scedule or ruler, tiny mirror and kind of legs you could open and have the case stand on them.
I had pencil boxes like that in the 80’s and 90’s! So many good memories!
I love them All 😍 but my favorite is the 1st one Hello Kitty with the dial to open each compartment 🥰 That one was designed by a genius 😘
I love all of them but I'm obsessed with the magical house pencil case
I am the biggest fan of stationary and proudly showoff them and I used to buy lot of these boxes as well like I think I was the only student who used to change pencil boxes and stationary frequently like very very frequently , I still do so. this video gave me nostalgia like I really hope I kept these pencil cases.
Omg this just opened up some memories! Loved these as a kid they were so fun and cute!
Oh man, I was obsessed with these growing up! I always went to the Hello Kitty store whenever we visited the local mall. They also made really delicious gum! We could afford the gum but I think I only had one, maybe two pencil cases but I would always look at them at the store. As a middle aged person, I can safely say my heart still bleeds for any Japanese stationary and related items.
Wow! Flashback for me. I grew up in Hawaii and Japanese things were huge there when I was a kid in the 70s. We use to visit Shirokiya, a Japanese department store, where my brother and I could buy cool toys. I remember Sweet Pepe. I loved the pencil cases. The pencil cases were awesome and well made and innovative. The pencils, pens, and erasers were always scented as I recall. Also Japanese shows were popular too such as Kikaida and Kamen Rider. My brother and I each had the dolls from these shows. Wish I still had these items. Thanks for the memories.
When older pencil cases are cooler than new ones 😞
In my primary school, these were really popular! They were made by Smiggle, so only one case but lots of different patterns and colours
This was Australia early 2010s btw so pretty recent
Wow, just wow...
I can't imagine how much fun and play i would made in my elementary days with those pencil cases. Especially that one with miniature house... whoaaaa
My sister had a US version of the HK pencil box from the late 1970s to early 1980s. It had markers, the stencil you have, a protractor (yours is missing), an eraser, and a stylus to write on the “notepad”. I’ve been a fan of HK ever since my oldest sister bought me my first HK stapler in 1976 (I was only 6 yrs old and she was 22yrs) for Christmas. At 53 years old, I still have the stapler and a lot of other HK and Chococat items including my purse from Loungefly. I’m starting to appreciate other Japanese stationery as well. Glad to have found your channel.
We got those sort of pencil cases in the UK by the 90s. I was obsessed with spy stuff as a kid and it felt like what a spy would have as a pencil case, if they were in a fairytale.
Thank you for the fun and wonderful video!
I was born in the 90s and went to kindergarten in east Asia. I had pencil cases like this and loved them!! Everyone in my class had one too, all mostly either hello kitty, my melody or other Sanrio characters ❤
I had a pink pencil case like these. I loved pressing the button that would pop out the sharpener. If im not mistaken, the design was hello kitty but its been so long that i don't even remember the exact design anymore
We had very similar things when I was growing up in New Zealand, but not with Hello Kitty - they had other characters on them. I also remember a tin pencil case I had, with a little girl character on it - I think it was called Tiny Candy, and it was old when I got it. My sister had a "Holly Hobbie" stationery set and it was very cute too.
These pencil cases really brings back some fun memories as a kid growing up in Hawaii !
We had those pencil cases in the states in the 80s. I'm typing this as you're wrapping up the first one, and based on the quick view of the one you're saving from last, I remember that one. I don't remember if I had it or if someone else had it.
This was brilliant, thank you
No one I knew had pencil boxes like these in the U.S. in the 90's. This stuff is incredible
I (now 58) had an old dominos box, but I loved it because it was wood with a sliding lid and all my friends had the cloth tube zip up ones.....which got dirty and spoilt really fast. I used that old dominos box right into my first year of high school. I would've still used it, but some bullies stamped on it and smashed it. I was so sad. So i love these cool boxes. I really liked the black one as an adult, from an art perspective, but they were all super cute and so useful. My daughter, now 26, probably would've gone for the dog one or Hello Kitty whilst at school (the dog one now).😊 I really like the one with the dial. Even now we Brits pretty much still only have the cloth tube zipper ones! LOL!
I always wanted pencil cases like this but I couldn't afford them or even find them when I was little, my friends all had them!! Thank you for sharing.
I still have a couple of my old pencil cases like this! I love them. Every girl had one.
These are so cool! My pencil case was a basic pencil pouch or a hard plastic box with no organization haha.
I just bought two pensile cases like the hello kitty one where things pop out form TJMaxx in the US as a gift for my 2 daughters as birthday present. So yes they still make these now for sale.
