Today in this video we are doing the combo tour as as a day trip from San Jose and we are going to visit three places: Doka Coffee, Poas Volcano National Park and La Paz waterfall gardens. It's going to be a great day so let's go.
The combo tour includes breakfast and lunch, all entrance fees, bilingual guide and roundtrip transportation from San Jose. We got picked up from our hotel in San Jose around 630 AM for the tour and as we began our 1 hour journey to Doka Coffee Estate, our guide shared with us some information about the tour and the places we're visiting. The first stop was Doka Estate to do a coffee tour. We first had a traditional Costa Rican breakfast with juice and coffee before we began the tour.We just finished breakfast and now we're going to do the coffee tour.Doka Estate is a coffee plantation that has been growing coffee since 1940. Doka has won awards of the best coffee in the world and best coffee plantation in Latin American in the past among other awards so it's definitely one of the best coffee tours in Costa Rica for tourists to learn about the entire coffee process from cherry to bean. Most of the coffee here produced at Doka is actually exported and this is the coffee they export, this is the premium stuff. This is the drying section of the coffee process and when it's in season they have to be the coffee beans like that every hour. The coffee tour is about an hour and a half long and they take you through every step of the entire process. We just finished the coffee tour but now we have a few minutes to browse through their shop so we can buy some of their delicious coffee straight from them.If you're looking for a Costa Rican souvenir, definitely pick up some bags of coffee for yourself and friends and family. After the coffee tour, we drove about 40 minutes to the second stop of the combo tour, Poas Volcano National Park. Here we are at Poas Volcano National park, we're going to walk about 600 meters from the parking lot to the first observation point to see the volcano crater. This is the Poas Volcano national Park, this is one of the most important national parks we have in the country. Here we can see the volcano 100% clear today, This is one of the largest craters in the world, at this moment we can see 1700 meters diameter, thats the most acidic lake in the world. The normal ph to drink water is 7, when it's lower it's very acidic and at this moment it's 0.The trail to Laguna Botos is 800 meters which takes around 20 minutes each way. This is Botos Lake which is the second volcano crater lake in Poas Volcano National Park and this one is inactive, but still beautiful. Poas Volcano National Park is one of the most popular national parks in Costa Rica since visitors can see 2 craters in the cloud forest. We had great weather during our 1.5 hour visit and were able to see both craters very clear. We just finished Poas Volcano National Park and now we're going to the third stop on the combo tour which is the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. This is a quick stop before the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, here you can actually try some really delicoius candies, chocolates, strawberries, cheese and wine. The last stop of the San Jose combo tour was La Paz Waterfall Gardens, just a 30 minute drive from Poas Volcano National Park. This nature park in the tropical rainforest has 5 waterfalls and an animal sanctuary. After we checked in, our guide first took us through the aviary to see different birds, the butterfly garden, hummingbird garden and monkeys. The animals in the sanctuary were given to La Paz waterfall gardens by the Costa Rican Wildlife Ministry as most of them were confiscated as illegal pets and therefore cannot be released back into the wild unfortunately. It was nice to have a guide to share information about all the animals and to learn more about conservation and tropical wildlife.
Afterwards, we headed to the restaurant for a buffet lunch to fuel up before the waterfall walk. After we finished our lunch, we stopped by the jungle cats and traditional house really quick before heading down to the highlight of the nature park: the waterfalls. La paz waterfall gardens set up a very nice network of trails and viewing platforms that goes to five different waterfalls, one that you can even get up behind. The waterfall trail is around half a kilometer or .3 miles so it's not long but be warned that there are a ton of steps so you will work off your lunch while seeing the five amazing waterfalls.

I booked this tour for my husband and myself after seeing your video. We were very pleased with it - even had the same guide, Adrian who was great and very knowledgeable, we enjoyed talking to him. The waterfalls steps did about do me in, should not have had such a good lunch. Food was great.

Are you allowed to to get in the water at the falls? Is there a tour that also makes a stop at a waterfall that you can dip into?
