    I think if there is anyone that will appreciate a sprindex, it’s you. Especially since you like to switch frames and shock types! It’s so sweet when finding the front to rear balance.

    I just built up my 2023 reign. I’m running coil as well the new Ohlins ttx m.2 with a mrp progressive coil. I’m also on the hunt for the perfect coil appreciate all the information your putting out. I’m not finding what I need with the MRP coil my next step is to get the sprindex according to there site they use a progressive spring kicks in the last 20% of travel plus the added benefit being able to change spring rate on the fly , which he other option I’m looking at is the canecreek vault progressive spring they claim progression start at 50% into the travel. Thoughts? The first 75% of travel im happy with its the last 25% feels harsh or bottoming. Keep up the great work.

      Hmm yeah thats right, the sprindex does claim a little progression, I forgot about that. How much do you weigh?

    • @bryananthony8731

      Fully geared up I’m at 99.8 kilos/ 220 lbs. I ended up going with the sprindex waiting for it to come in. Hopefully it will work out and has nothing to do with the ttx m.2. I only went with the ttx because I noticed the 2023 reign SX runs a 65mm stroke and the new ttx has external adjustable stroke figured when I run mullet for park days I could run the same stroke as the SX but now I’m considering running 65mm stroke with the 29er wheel in the middle position, even though right now I feel the best ride quality is in the low position. Will see what happens when I get the new spring.

    I ran the 575-700 DVO on my GT with a progression rate of 12.7 in Low setting 2.75 leverage rate. Thought those numbers needed the prog rate spring.. Found too soft off top, got hung up on things, but sat up in travel and didn’t ever hit bottom. Went to linear 600 Cane Creek Valt spring and was perfect. Only clapped once. 90kg rider weight. Now matches the coil fork. Jury is out on PR springs now. Too much variation.

  • @jonathanangieri153

    Telly is there a general rule of thumb for dynamic ride height vs seated sag? Meaning if I set the seated sag at 30%, would that translate to a DRH of around 27-28%? Or is it definitely not as simple as that due to reb and comp settings ? I think i already know the answer which is no but thought id ask anyway

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před rokem

      I don’t have a general rule relating the 2. I aim for a certain dynamic ride height through testing, and find it via seated sag as its the easiest repeatable way to accurately get a sag reading. So I have no idea what my dynamic sag is, I just know I get it from having X amount of seated sag, with the shock set up to suit that position

    Since you mentioned many times about your collection of springs and the perceived inconsistency of them, perhaps it would be an interesting scientific test to measure the actual spring rates of the respective springs? Theres hardly any actual data about the reliability of the printed numbers, and knowing the discrepencies would be a great achievement. Perhaps you can find a jig, or make one with wooden frame that would allow you to consistently add weight to it; i.e. 3" spring of 300lbs would need a total of 900lbs to compress it fully. You get the idea.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před rokem

      Yep I feel you there for sure. I’m beginning to think the inconsistencies are less significant than I’ve previously thought. They may all be quite similar, the only way to really know is to test them as you said

    Have you tried the new rockshox superdeluxe coil with the HBO? That might be the way to go bc the reign has digression at the end of the stroke

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před rokem

      No I haven’t, but that may be a decent addition. I think this bike may perform best with a curve created by an airspring. Adding HBO can catch force at the end but won’t change that soft mid I’d have by running the coil soft off the top to find that ride height. We’ll see with time

    • @DavidFoundCo
      @DavidFoundCo Před rokem

      @@mtbtelly5522 another option is the Megneg addition for mid support. I have 2020 reign and can’t decide which of the two I wanna get yet, I’ll put a longer stroke on it to increase my rear travel.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před rokem

      @@DavidFoundCo if I stick with an air shock I’d go the new Superdeluxe air with the improved air cans. No need for the megneg. Air springs will give me the opportunity to tune the shape to what I want, where the coil I’m governed by the coils ramp.

  • @HannyDart
    @HannyDart Před 3 měsíci

    you might want to have a look at the dvo prorate spring. It has a bigger spread in springrate.
    besides that: it still blows my mind that youre getting away with springrates this low.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před 3 měsíci

      Yeah tell me about it. So on the rockshox shock I have to run that low to get any compliance, where as on my marzocchi coil I’m running a 350 or 365 for enough support and same ride height. So chosen springrate is completely shock specific. The RS damping setup is creating a lot more resistance to flow than the Marzocchi, leading to way to much resistance overall when a spring is added. Their old coil shock was a much more free moving shock. The ohlins coil was the same with way too much damping resistance, the Cane Creek Kitsuma was similar

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Also swapping from the RS coil to my Marzocchi, i’m going 5-10 seconds a lap faster comfortably. Much more free speed and all bumps feel softer like it should be. I didn’t realise the shock was the issue until I did the swap

    I don't feel that progressive coil springs work well. They are essentially two rates. The first two thirds of the spring is one rate then the last portion is another. This made it feel like the bike would blow through travel until the very end then hit a wall. Some bikes just don't work well with coils so I just make sure to any bikes I buy are well designed for coil shocks.

  • @21armyn

    why not get an EXT E-storia or Arma or a rockshock coil where you can tune the bottomout control?

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před rokem

      I may eventually try a rockshox coil once I know the new one is reliable. As for the EXT I can’t justify that much expense for the shock. A friend had one that constantly topped out like the Kitsuma coils I’ve had in the past. Otherwise it felt smooth, but if they’re a shock that tops out I’m definitely not interested. It may have just been a matter of air in the damper and due for a service, but it didn’t strike me as high quality
