  • Roddy Ricch was once one of the most explosive artists in the industry. He first got onto everyone's radar with his MASSIVE hit single "The Box" but didn't follow through with his seemingly "Drake levels" of momentum. However, when diving deeper into the story, you'll understand that his "downfall" isn't what its cracked out to be. And there are a lot of understandable reasons as too why his career would eventually lead to a decline.

      @@Tristan-tj9uz Not really, you have to remember, once you've got it, people want to hear you do you, so as long as you're doing what they love you for you're going to make hit after hit until they get tired or you switch up. Roddy switched up more than once (I'm talking about his style). Look at Die Young, Down Below, Every Season, those songs are came up from the bottom music that everyone loved. He then started talking about a lot of fly sh*t that most people can't relate to so he slowly so a drop when it became repetitive.
      Then he made the Box which was a commercial song, he tried the same with Late At Night and High Fashion, it appealed to his TikToker fans but those guys are fickle and will jump on the next thing, so right now he's still trying to make those commercial songs not realising those fans were never going to stay down. Now his core fans have moved on because he lost their interest a long time ago when he traded them in for the quick run. His best bet is either being content with where he is or if he's lucky he can go the Tyga route and make chart music

    Having your first major song be a mega hit is the biggest curse in hip hop. It happens throughout history… even recent history. “The Box” “Oouu” “Hot N!gga” huge first major songs that the artists could never recover from. When your first song is epic, it becomes bigger than the artist and the artist will never make another one because having a mega hit is a once in a lifetime thing

My band is at 10m+ streams and 40k+ listeners per month, and we sell out 250-500 cap clubs on tour, meanwhile I know some bands that blew up on Spotify that get 10x as many streams as my music does and can barely get 40 people to come to their shows. Numbers matter but making a real connection with fans and entertaining them live is what gives you real growth/sustainability. Music industry is a fast paced, ever-changing industry. If you're not constantly churning out hits or keeping yourself in the limelight in some way, you're gonna fizzle out and be forgotten while some young up and comer takes your place. Roddy just doesn't put out enough music to stay relevant and a lot of his latest shit hasn't been up to par compared to his earlier songs. There's also the fact that music as a whole is an industry that relies on creativity and being a creative person, and creativity is something that can come and go as it pleases.

Lil Baby might be one of the few from his era that will survive and it's not only because of the music but the brand he's build around his image but as he gets older, that "young and being fly" shit will die down and he'll need to adapt just like Meek has needed to grow up from the young reckless street n*gga.

      @@PlayWitYoBitxh Idk anything about YB but I would argue it was a quality and repetitive issue in regards to Wayne because no one drops more frequently than Curren$y over the last decade yet his fan base has only grown. Of course, the scale level is different with Wayne but Drake drops frequently or he's always there, far more frequent than Jay and Drake run is getting up there. I always personally felt like Wayne had more mediocre music than top tier level music. Once in awhile he'd cross over to that top tier space but more often than not, I feel like it was a toss up.

      @@PlayWitYoBitxh Drake dabbles in a variety of music although I will only really listen to his rap stuff like Gold Roses, Lemon Pepper Freestyle, Is There More etc... Also, I think you're right in terms of having your own fanbase and carving out your lane but if your goal is to be one of the driving forces in the game and you're not that then you're irrelevant in relation to your goals. Wayne is irrelevant currently, he doesn't shape trends, sounds, fashion or lifestyle choices like he used to, now that's the other young guys like Lil Baby, even Drake has that influence and he's been in the game for a minute.
      As for Roddy, if he doesn't have a solid fanbase who are all these people that are rocking with him? Where are all these YT streams and tens of millions of streams coming from? How is he able to continuously get tours and bookings? That's all I want to know because he's clearly still outdoing 99% of rappers out there, how is that possible without a fanbase.

    I'll be real, the numbers may not be where it was at his peak but the music isn't trash either, he actually makes quality music lol A lot of people just moved on but he doesn't need a song like Box or Die Young to be successful. You have guys like Curren$y that have core fans and do better than most artists. People are forgetting, he's still outperforming 99% of artists even at this point but his early music did well because it resonated with people and hit home hard. Anyone from that environment can relate to his early music heavy. The issue is, he shouldn't force that if it isn't his reality anymore, it's like listening to Jeezy still talking about Yay as if he's still in the streets lol it doesn't sound good.

    • @hakshustletv
      @hakshustletv Před 11 měsíci +3

      @PlayWitYoBitxh I think Roddy actually has that, I just think he isn't content with it, he wants to be peak Roddy forever, Curren$y is another one with a core fan base and can eat forever and I'm Roddy could but he's not content, someone like Curren$y or as you said YB can be content with their fanbase.
      Also, hell no lol Jeezy needs to stop, enough of the whipping talk, we know he ain't in the streets anymore and we know what he used to do, can't talk about the same ish forever and expect his early fanbase to still be there. All of us have graduated from the streets and have properties and sh*t and so does Jeezy he should be talking about the stuff he's doing now.

      @PlayWitYoBitxh I'm not gonna mention that rat you mentioned but Roddy Chase the bag, Die Young, Every Season, Down Below, Fucc it up, Ricch Vibes, none of that was because of the industry. As for saying that rat outsold him, well then by your logic Durk isn't relevant because the rat also outsold Durk.
      If you're comparing him to when he released The Box, of course, he would appear to be irrelevant but the guy is still out here dopping songs getting millions of views, he's still getting 21 million streams a month on Spotify, how is that falling off lol To put it into perspective, Durk is seen as one of the hottest things right now, he only gets 10 million more streams on spotify than Roddy, Jeezy only gets 4 million monthly listeners, NBA youngboy only gets 18 million listeners so Roddy gets more listeners than both of them.
      That's why I said you guys are comparing him to his absolute peak, if we're not speaking relatively and just speaking in general, he's still one of the biggest names in the game.

    • @hakshustletv
      @hakshustletv Před 11 měsíci

      @PlayWitYoBitxh I never said he's hot, I said he's still outdoing most of these rappers. Hot is Lil Baby, again I'm not going to mention that rat you keep mentioning but after this he'll fall off, people only wanted to hear what the rat had to say based on current events.
      And doing 21 million a month on spotify alone not including Tidal, Apple Music and other platforms means he's seeing hundreds of thousands at the very miminum every month off of streaming alone, not too many artists can say that and that doesn't include if he has a deal with these platforms which isn't unheard of meaning a higher payout ratio.
      If he was doing a million per video, 600k streams a month or some sh*t like that, I'd agree with you but if doing tens of millions of streams a month is falling off while still doing shows getting paid better than most, then I think a lot of the artists you think are doing well would rather be falling off exactly like Roddy 😂

    The difference between him and lil baby was that lil baby was still doing features, did a collab album with Durk, and killing a Drake feature right after My Turn. Even though lil baby’s last album was hot garbage he still wasn’t getting the amount of hate Roddy got because he had kept working after that debut album. I just wished Roddy would’ve took the lil baby route.

      Baby came out b4 too. So he was already established when my turn dropped. And his catalog was already good since he had mega hits like drip too hard an close friends from 2017. U would have to compare roddy with someone who came up in 2019 like polo or tjay

      @@sergekoffibeats you right, but the only reason why I compared him to lil baby because he was hotter than the other 2 niggas you just named. And to be honest Feed the streets = Harder than ever. Feed the streets 2= Street Gossip. Please Excuse me for being anti social = My Turn. I feel like their albums/mixtapes equal honestly

    He'll be alright. We all had at least one year in our careers where we didn't do as good as the previous year. He human just like you Louaista. If the CZcams Algorithm changed tomorrow, and your channel ended up taking a huge hit because of it, people would start making videos about how Louaista fell off. So, give the nigga Roddy Ricch a break.

    Never heard anyone reference The Box as a tik tok song, that was just a hit that was also on tik tok. Also his second album to live life fast wasn't that bad, his odd personality just got in his way.
