長野電鉄前面展望 本郷→須坂 ＜Cabview Japanrail Nagano electric Railway Hongo Sta. → Suzaka Sta＞

This is a cab view of the Nagano Electric Railway, a private railway that runs through Nagano Prefecture, from Hongo Station to Suzaka Station.
Nagano Electric Railway is a private railway that starts in Nagano City, the prefectural capital of Nagano Prefecture, and currently has a 33.2 km line. In the past, it operated several other lines, but due to the decline in population of regional cities and the spread of automobiles, they were removed one after another.
The remaining lines are in demand because the terminus, Yudanaka, is a tourist destination with hot springs, and for transporting commuters to Nagano City. However, the number of users is probably continuing to decrease.
About 2 km of this line on the Nagano Station side was underground in the 1980s. This was to eliminate numerous level crossings, improve railway safety, and alleviate traffic congestion in the city. Nagano Electric Railway's Nagano Station is located underground, adjacent to JR Nagano Station.
This video does not include the underground section, but instead shoots from just before Hongo Station, where the tracks emerge above ground, to Suzaka Station, a major station along the way. It was difficult to decide on the camera position, and the position changed, and the door at the front of the train obstructed the view. However, I decided to upload it because I felt it would be a shame to let this spring local line scenery become a dead stock.
I uploaded a cab view from Shinano Takehara Station, the very back of this line, to the terminal, Yudanaka Station at • 長野電鉄前面展望　信濃竹原→湯田中 ＜Cab... . That is a mountain line with a continuous 40‰ incline, but this section is flat. The track changes little by little, from underground near Nagano Station, to double track for a short distance above ground, and then single track beyond that. Photo taken in May 2024

アクセスありがとうございます。長野電鉄長野線の前面展望です。長野口の地下区間は割愛し、開口部から本郷駅を経て、須坂駅までを収録しました。2024年5月の撮影です。カメラポジションの決定に悩み、カメラ位置が途中で変わっていることと、視界がやや狭くなっていることをご了承下さい。やはり、「ゆけむり」の最前列を確保し、ゆったりと前面展望を楽しむのがベストなのでしょうね。これは次回以降の課題です。

A note on my own behalf - and because I don't want to add another unrelated link here without asking again: on my CZcams channel in the "Community" section as well as on my playlist "Taubertalbahn (KBS 782)" there is a complete cab ride from my home region and the valley where I live as of today [small tip: at time index 55:46 the train reaches my home town :-) ]
Hope you‘re interested and you like it… and please take time in small sections - the video taken by „bwegt“ (german mobility portal) is very long with over one hour and forty four minutes

Really glad you decided to put this on CZcams. Yet another wonderful Japanese Rural line. Yes, it's sad to see patronage on many railways getting less, but tourist hotspots definitely help. I know that some lines have increased patronage by embracing some aspect of the line or area they serve, by a unique wrapping livery or train interior. Maybe Nagano Railway could do something similar.

Thank you for your comment. Nagano Electric Railway's management doesn't seem to be in such a tight spot. (Although it doesn't have the momentum it once had) I would like to see some new events again.

Coming out of a tunnel to find the line running through attractive residential areas with lots of greenery. And, lo, the track gang is well ahead of the weeds! Then single track and mixed open spaces (farms?), with more residences. A meet at a station, then off toward the mountains. Must be a weekend since there's very light patronage at the stations. A wonderful ride!
