    Not a patina fan. I think it's run its course...kinda like sideways mud flaps, fuzzy dice and dingle balls. That said it's my opinion. Everyone has to please themselves. I like a nice red with white insets . Opposite of original.

    I have a 1947 DeSoto that is black and hasn't been painted. The paint is in fair shape. There is something about these older cars that look "shop worn" that shows they are warriors from another time. It's a look that's lost when they are painted, especially in base/clear coat. When I see barn finds on CZcams they have that" time travel" look. I must admit that I would paint my car because making it look new is too tempting. But I was thinking of maybe a satin black instead of gloss which might still retain the older look that has been through a few years of weathering.

    • @junkyard_D
      @junkyard_D  Před měsícem

      Well said. It does show the true history of the car. Once that blanket of paint is added, the old history is covered and cannot be returned. If it does goes black I think a satin or "hot rod" black would be appropriate.

I like a shiny paint job just like everyone, but I'm the first one to accidentally bump a door or knock something over in the garage. I've seen where people put a thin coat of paint matching the original color and then 'burn through' by sanding the new paint to get the right amount of patina. Never do a cheap “quickie” paint job on a rough car using black paint. Black will show every body work flaw on the car! In the end, it’s just going to look like a cheap paint job; it will still look like crap … just shiny crap! Instead, stick with light colors that tend to hide the flaws. I’m still torn between patina or paint…🤔
    I like them both.
    This is a great candidate for the patina to stay.
    The car is becoming known for its character and how it looks now.
    But they do look great painted. 👍
    My Dads 62 Lancer is gloss black and it looks sharp! And it definitely accentuates and shows off the body lines!
    And It’s not perfect or straight by any means. And it gets a ton of attention.
    I’m wanting to chop the top on my 62 Plymouth, Valiant and suicide the doors and put a 340/4-speed in it, etc. And then paint it a dark grey/blueish battleship color.
    Can’t loose whatever direction Vic chooses to go with it in the end!

      Patina, is a fancy word for RUST, AND CORROSION. which everyone knows is not a good thing. Its a relatively new term that caught on like wildfire. In the old days having a rusty looking car was a very negative thing, and people wha had the money would get their car repainted before it got to the point that rust got a hold of it. Now we have people who cant afford, or won't spend the money to paint their cars persuading people into thinking rust and corrosion on a car is COOL AND DESIRABLE. And started using the term PATINA, to make it sound cool. Certainly saying my car has BEAUTIFUL PATINA, sounds much better than truthfully saying, My car has rusted and corroded beautifully.

      @@johnfranklin5277 it has been done. It has been overdone. What I do like about the patina movement is it may have saved some of the old cars as people put more importance on getting the vehicle operational first, then worried about the looks. I think all the classics should be saved. 😊

    • @KrisGreenhill
      @KrisGreenhill Před 29 dny

      @johnfranklin5277 well that is certainly an opinion. You know what they say about everyone having an opinion, right? We can now preserve a car's antique appearance and stop the spread of rust without spending a fortune on repainting an entire car needlessly. A freshly painted show car doesn't do much for me. I'd prefer people to drive their cars and spend their time and money on keeping them on the road.
