You have to remember that your running a business at the end of the day no matter how bad of a situation your customers are in, because if you don’t make enough money and profit your going to be out of business. That’s what most people don’t understand
So he should of taking that job for $250 while he driving to the parts store back and fourth in v8 and wasting time. That in shop would cost him like $500-800
Love your work Matt. You're obviously incredibly talented mechanically, but you're incredibly good with all of your customers too - even when it must be frustrating and/or you lose time/money.
Yeah, seriously. He was given the price. There's no negotiating prices on mechanical work. You negotiate the purchase price of the vehicle, and then you deal with the repair bills like an adult.
Take the the 2 bolts off the dust sheild snd rotate it out of the way and there's a small recession where there's room for the stud to come all the way out. Simple fix . Poor guy guy had to pay 450 for a part he didn't need not to mention the second tow because the mechanic could've fixed it on the spot .
Matt you need to start getting a deposit down up front and have a contact that they sign if you don’t pay your bill then I take your car until the bill is paid in full. I had transmission replaced in my truck and that contract stated if your bill isn’t paid in full you don’t get your car. 😂
Typical fb marketplace seller “oh runs good just needs motor” “oh rear control arm is just a little loose” entire wheel falls off and need 7-800 worth of work. I got scammed out of 3800 bucks two weeks ago from a seller. Had a terminal undiscovered issue underneath. The frame had a massive hole and was missing a shock. Shop condemned it and junkyard offered 350. I’m done with fb marketplace unless I’m desperate. Half the sellers are either liers or don’t respond and waste your time.
My coworker bought a used Porsche 944 for like 8grand off Facebook marketplace. Drove it for a couple hours coolant wasn’t circulating AND had a fast leak on top of some other stuff that seller didn’t mention ended up blowing the motor in 2days 😂. Partially my coworkers fault for buying a old ass Porsche but this is why I don’t like marketplace not many people sell a car unless there’s something wrong with it, high mileage or they’re broke which worries me even more because that means they probably couldn’t afford to maintain it! I don’t gamble with private seller cars smh
Love the vids, Been binge watching em. I work on trash trucks for a living and roadcalls at this time of year can be horrible, especially up here in the rust belt. Hella respect tho.
Good fucking shit, been watching all your stuff for the last week and thats been me pretty much for the last six months. Bought an F150 put some tool boxes In the back and Ive been booked of work since. Glad I ran into your page, Im in the diesel and hydraulic industry mainly also. I do vehicles and stuff too but mainly work for heavy duty equipment companies.
I recently replaced a couple of broken wheel studs on my 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore (Australian car) a couple of weeks ago which snapped off on the rear IRS axle. They seemed to be impossible to get out until I drilled a hole through the centre of the 2 broken studs,I drove both of them out using a hammer & centre punch which is what I had on hand but they came out much easier after I drilled through them. The cost of the wheel studs was $20 AUD ($10 AUD each) as an online order from my local Repco auto spare parts shop so I didn't have to replace the rear axle which is no longer available brand new as well !
Not trying to criticize, but I've been in business for myself most of my life, and I wouldn't have touched that car without knowing he was going to be able to pay for the worst case scenario. He needed to just have it towed and he qould probably have been happier with you in the end if you just told him up front that it could get expensive.
It's just the time of the moment when we say things we know we meant to say something else. Honest mistake. U and I both know wat it is. Keep grinding 💯
I once had a flat tire and put my spare tire on. I live 1/2 block away from my brother in-laws repair shop. I wasn't paying attention to the the lug nuts. I put the spare tire on and then went to my brother in-laws shop to ask him to make sure the lug nuts were tights so I could get to town and buy a new tire. He went to tighten my lug nuts and informed me that I put them on backwards. I felt really stupid. I have changed tires before and never made that mistake before. 😂
Shoot i'd put the wheel up there screw some of those VW or BMW bolt into it to hold it on there to get it home, lol just kidding, although if you tapped the flange lol NAH!😂👋
What was the reason for the new hub assembly? The studs wouldn’t come out? I’m a little confused why you wouldn’t use a punch and then reinstall them with an impact
Why would dude buy a car that HE KNOWS needs work, and got no money to pay when it's time for the work to be done??? No way in heck I'll buy a car off marketplace from somebody that didn't know the ins and outs about their car.
When I have kids in the near future I’m gonna make them watch this YT channel. My dad was a mechanic in the navy for 30 years and always worked on cars. I grew “helping” when he’d work on a car but once I got my own car he never helped me and made me watch YT and do my own research, I’m glad he did. Gonna make my kid do the same
Ah yes, your father passing up perfect teaching moments and pushing you off onto youtube....that's the trait you want to pass on? Interesting. It's great to be able to teach yourself, but that revealed a sad family dynamic. Ipad babies.....
@@deadeyeduncan5022 relax Duncan. You missed the part where I said I grew up helping my dad. I guess just take it as a learning experience and don’t always take peoples words for it because not everyone sticks to the same moral code or ethics
If its a manual the gear linkage under the air box simply needs cleaning and silicone lubing. It's nothing to do with the spring or the shifter inside.
I get that it's a buisness and you need to be able to right all this off for taxes or make the customer pay out of pocket, but couldn't you order the parts off of rock auto? Would be like 70-90$ for the hub assembly
I don't think you have to take the hub to replace the studs or take dust shield off dude was let down by two people in one day there are still good people out here don't loose hope
why did he say he needed a new hub, is there just not enough space behind the studs to remove and install new ones in? kinda looks like there is but its hard to tell. edit: @8:38 you can see the back of the stud up against the front part of the knuckle so yeah it does look like the hub has to be removed in this case.
I don't know why he said he need a new hub the dust shield can be removed with bolts holding it on and the hub can be rotated and stud knocked out when the dust shield is removed
At 838 yeah you can turn that whole part there is a notch at the bottom of the part that's blocking the stud that's indented so the stud can come out and the dust shield has to be removed just to fit new stud back in
@@dafewcha2110 it can not that is a pressed in wheel bearing, and then the hub is pressed into the bearing ive done na few of these when you pull the hub and pulls the inner race out of the bearing and 9 out of ten times ruins the bearing, but he can order a whole knuckle off rock with bear hub and brake shoes for like $113 dollars and spend 45 mins just change the whole knuckle

Craigslist car sales: "Runs like a charm, no problems, new tires..."😂same with facebook ads .
Im leaning more towards this was the purchasers fault. If the seller mentions the car needing repairs its probably X5 worse than what they mentioned.
There is that and also the fact that a lot of people don't understand anything, anyway.

Is it possible to use a rotary saw blade and cut the bolts off?
@jeffpless5036 yes the dust sheild isn't necessary
