There are many components to giving up drinking including eg motivation and help from family.
One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Sebs Magic Tactic (see the website SebsMagicTactic.com) definately the most incredible idea that I've seen.
Check out the site and incredible testimonials.

I was meant to watch your video today. I’ve been smoking for 39 years on and off (mostly on!). I’m 57 now. I’m facing spine surgery (fusion) in 3 weeks and smoking severely will greatly endanger a proper fusion. I was very inspired by you and your story, because you were a smoker and KNOW how difficult it is to quit. By this weekend I will do the same and stop cigarettes but weaning myself off nicotine with all the options you presented. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and being so real! Wish me luck!

Giving up smoking is the single best thing you can do for your health - and your pocketbook. I kicked the habit 36 years ago. It was tough but failure was not an option. The withdrawal symptoms were pretty bad for about a week and I couldn't sleep at night, but after that it was smooth sailing. I'm still an addict and I know that one cigarette would be enough to get me started all over again but it's not something I have to worry about because I find cigarette smoke pretty disgusting now.

I agree. Great video. I smoked for 50 years and I'm blessed because I'm in good heath. For the last 10 years I battled to get off the cigs. I started using the niocrette spray and I gave up 24th Sept 2021. I am still addicted to the spray. I gave up the cigs but not the spray.
      Anybody have any suggestions?

First of all, congrats for making it this far!
Our friend in this video here mentioned a drug where it blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain. He said that it didn’t work for him, but I found it to be absolutely amazing and is what helped me quit on both successful attempts… The original the name of it is Chantix, but in certain countries it is labeled as Champix. They also made generic versions of it.
The medicine works by not only blocking the nicotine receptors in your brain, but also block the dopamine reward system from giving you gratification when you get take in any nicotine. It also will usually cause nausea from nicotine too. All these things add up to you reducing your nicotine habit to the point that you just don’t crave it anymore.
You don’t even need to set a quit date with it (which I find to be too stressful in and of itself!), because you will just wake up one day within a month’s time and not feel like doing it anymore. It’s a miracle how that medicine works, tbh.
You will still be tempted every once in a while with a craving of course, just because it has become a coping mechanism when stressed out, and ingrained behavior associated with routines etc, but when the nicotine isn’t in your system anymore after 2-3 days (and barely was the day you quit), it is just a temporary mind over matter moment that will pass in a few minutes time.

Thanks Doug . I am a pretty heavy smoker myself. I have smoked since I was 15 years old and I am 45 now. 3/4 of my life. I have quit in the past and stayed quit for up to two years or so. I felt really good when I would quit. There would always be something silly. That made me start back. Like drinking. Every time I would drink I would crave cigarettes so bad that I would cave and start back. I haven’t been a heavy drinker in a good eight years, but now I am so hooked on cigarettes from being on them for so long that it’s just so much harder to put down. I feel like cigarettes are that one final addiction that I have been too stubborn to let go of. But reminding me that nicotine is a drug and I can get that drug through other avenues is inspiring. I’ve always use the packaging when I quit. But maybe I will add a vape or inhaler that. I plan to try soon because I’m tired of feeling like crap. Thank you for the inspiration.

This is a fascinating video and a very valuable, personal insight. Thank you for opening up and putting yourself out there, and it's not only inspiring that you were ABLE to quit but also that you had the gumption to go through the trouble. That's something that people overlook, I think; there's the major accomplishment and major life-change that everybody sees, but there's also the minute-to-minute and daily troubles of seeing people, dealing with prescriptions, and generally taking care of yourself, and that shit ain't easy to go out and do. Your content has been an inspiration to me for years, so I'd be sorry to see your music and videos get stopped-up due to health issues: my personal and selfish thank-you for taking care of yourself where you can!

Smoking is an addiction.Anyone who understands addiction knows that you need to replace the addiction with something in it's place to be successful. I also vape, because I understand I am addicted to nicotine. I just switched the way I got my drug. I went from 18mg, and slowly lowered it until now I am at 3mg of nicotine. The biggest hurdle is the habit of when you smoke. Thank you for your video.

There are millions more just like my mum, you do not need to replace it with anything, at all!

It is nice to hear your story but you haven't got rid of your nicotine addiction at all. As long as you take nicotine in any other form, it is going to cause hypertension, hamper your sugar metabolism as well as may even kill you by creating a clot in your arteries and vein. The best way to quit any addiction is to go cold turkey. It will feel horrible for few days but after that your body will recover that. Few days of misery is still better than lying in hospital bed waiting for death. Imagine that. I have smoked for 29 years. I just quit cold turkey. One thing that kept me going : i took this craving for nicotine as a curse from one of my haters, and i felt pleasure killing their curse out of my body. I have been smoke free for 5 yrs. Never ever again. Thank god , got out of that nightmare. Man just don't even vape. Just quit. Don't take nicotine in any form

One month ago I went to my Dr about my increase
problem with arthritis. it wasn't arthritis. It's vascular disease. I'm a vegan without a major disease and because of smoking I have vascular disease. My Dr talked to me for an hour. She prescribed Chantix but I got off 1 week ago because I wanted to go cold turkey.
last November WE lost one of the most beautiful spiritual women in narcotics anonymous from trading cigarettes for e cigarettes. she had a double lung transplant because the e cigarettes caused scaring on both lungs. by God's grace we had her 2 more years. She was only 60 years old.

I'm unable to get addicted to anything but watching through these vids to help someone with an addiction to smoking end it. It's kind of hard for me to figure out what to tell him when I myself simply just don't do whatever and that's it, I've never been able to form an addiction to anything. My will power however is insane, I can endure anything even to point of passing out or being near death, I can fast and I can exercise so intensely and do so many other things I get right to the limits. I don't really know how to help someone other than say "just don't do it" so I am trying to think of something better to say. To me any kind of thing that is stopped by simply not doing something is tremendously easy. To eat you have to put in the effort to prepare food and lift it up to your mouth and eat it. To drink you have to do something. To smoke you got to light a cigarette and put it to your mouth. Simply... doing nothing is way easier. As for the suffering and pain I am completely detached from my own emotions and feelings and thoughts, not identified with them. I never was raised to be comfortable and avoid pain either. I don't know. I wish I could help others with addictions better but it's really easy for me to just stop, even if it makes me terribly sick for days or weeks, I don't think even once to start doing something that makes me that sick when I stop again.

    • @Dave-rm1mb
      @Dave-rm1mb Před 6 lety

Yeah it sounds like an obvious thing to say but if you genuinely want to quit, you will. 90% of the addiction is psychological. It's not all that hard if you genuinely want to quit. It's only hard if you're still in that mindset where you enjoy smoking. The E-Cigg was helpful in that it showed me that I didn't need it. I bought an E-Cigg but stopped using it after a few days and my brother was the same. It was that which made me realise that it was all in the mind and that I'd simply had enough after two decades of smoking.

As for your teeth, allot of that probably was the cigarettes mate. My teeth are bad although I used to drink allot of sweet coffee and I know that had a huge effect. Smoking put a hole in my upper palette. My dentist was amused when he found it and was always telling me to try and quit smoking. It's not noticeable as it's right in the back of my mouth and it took him over a year before he found it but it's there. I only notice it when I sleep sometimes. Sometimes, when my head is tilted up and due to gravity, a tiny bit of mucus will fall from my nose through the hole into my mouth. It's only a tiny bit so I don't end up spitting but it's not a nice feeling. It's like prepping to spit but it's involuntarily. Smoking has allot of effects on your health in general. Other factors come into play such as diet/lifestyle but smoking certainly adds to it.

If I am with someone that sparks up or smell it I crave so bad I always spark up. Accepted that will die younger but cant imagine not being a smoker.

I'm 45. I was diagnosed with Type1 diabetes at age 22. From the age of 15 I had smoked...not even a diabetes diagnoses put me off. In fact, my attitude was - "I've got years until diabetes & smoking catches up with me" never actually thinking it would catch up so quick. But for the past couple years I have been feeling more & more breathless & tired day by day. I've lost 3 teeth in that time too which is without a doubt a mixture of poor diabetes control & smoking. So last week I just thought - "Enough is enough" and decided now was the time to finally knock that filthy habit on the head once & for all before something serious happens to me. Cold turkey is the only way...just as long as I avoid alcohol for a few weeks, lol.

I did have pneumonia with an infected lung that is why I decided to quit in the first place. Beginning to feel a lot better now. Coincidentally my 87 year old mother has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. As her full-time carer I am now getting to grips with that - injections twice a day, blood testing, diet etc.

I hope I can just fully realize it and quit already. I've been talking about quitting since I started again 4 years ago.

Ive been wearing a patch and have managed to get 18 days for the first time in 21 years, 20/day.
I dont want tto vape im hoping to wean myself of the patches after a couple more months. Im 40 amd whatever damage has been done so far is minimal compared to others, thank god. I have an auto immune disorder that is said to be certainly be made worse by smoking so that's a huge inspiration to keep going. I'm tired a lot during the day. And super anxious...
I dont want to vape just because i dont want to be worried about carrying that around and spending money on it. But if im losing it when i take the patch off and feel like im about to crack thats the next option.
I suggest to anyone reading this, sleep hypnosis. It really helped me breal the cycle and start to build the motivation needed to get this far. Minds in unison here on youtube is what i use. It just rainfall all night with subliminal messages laced underneath getting blasted into your subconscious where much of this addiction lives. I wanted to quit but after a few nights of this i took the steps to do so. Only 18 days in but i still listen to it every night. Fingers crossed this will be the one and only time i quit smoking.

Mate, I know why you were able to quit on the day you quit. Because October 8 is a _VERY_ special day, as that is my birthday. 😁🥳😂 Also, your wife has my nickname (Jo being short for my full name). Haha.
On a serious note, I hope you are still keeping up the success! I am on my second big attempt atm… I just made it through my first week. I’m sure you are well aware of this, but the fact is that we really can _NEVER_ have “just one” ever again.
Thinking I could do that after 2 years is what caused me to relapse after being two years smoke-free on my first big attempt. I smoked about half as much as you did every day for 25 years, whilst having been a chronic asthmatic since the age of seven to boot (I even almost died from asthma one time a few years ago, and it is a bloody miracle that I survived). My lungs are screaming at me - this _HAS_ to be the end of this dumb habit!
P.S. I just got to the part of your video where you said that you vape, and admitted that the jury is still out on the health effects of vaping. I will tell you two things about that…
First of all, my ex quit cigarettes with vaping nicotine (although I think you said that you vape without nicotine), and he is vaping _CONSTANTLY_ every day… _WAY_ more than he ever smoked cigs. Every time I would come over, his entire place was filled with the fog from it, and every surface in his place became sticky and covered with a film of shmutz from it.
Secondly, I don’t know why, but when I tried to quit in the past by following his vaping footsteps, it actually gave me *MORE* asthma than my cigarettes did! And his vaping would also give me asthma from second hand inhalation. When I was smoke-free for those two years, I hardly ever got asthma.
Who actually knows if valing really is better than cigarettes like folks hope - vapers are essentially guinea pigs right now, and it is going to be awhile until we know what the long term effects are, if any (also, I shouldn’t have to remind you that the boomer generation was actually told that cigarettes were healthy for them, even by doctors). I would not be surprised at all if something similar is going on where people are being told that vaping is healthier than cigarettes, when in actuality it isn’t by much in the long term, if it all.

Nice to hear a story from a real ex-smoker and not some millennial telling us how they got over a severe habit because they've smoked for a few years. I was a moderate smoker during my late teens/20's/30's. I'd smoke around 15 cigarettes a day and then changed to rolling tobacco in my 30's and would smoke around 20 roll ups per day. I quit last year after having smoked for about 20 years in total (I'm 37 now). By brother had quit the year before and that's what really gave me the motivation tbh. I went through the usual cycle that many smokers do where they say they will quit but never do. I came to realise that I just enjoyed smoking and this is why I couldn't quit.
Sure, nicotine is physically addictive but it doesn't have that much of a hold on you. 90% of the battle is simply the will to want to quit and this is where allot of smokers are not honest with themselves when they try quitting, including myself years ago. It seems like an obvious thing to say but it's the key and it;s something that is overlooked. You have to get to that place where you've genuinely had enough of smoking and it;s the same for any drug albeit it the withdraw is worse with some than it is with others ofc.
What happened to me was that I decided one day that enough was enough. At 37 I was starting to actually notice some of the effects of smoking such as bad blood circulation not to mention the cost of cigarettes is getting out of control so I decided I'd just had enough of it. I bought some nicotine patches and an E cigg. On the second day the patch fell off and I thought I'd leave it off until the next day. It was then when I realised that I didn't need the patch. I continued with the E cigg for a few days although I soon found that I didn't need that either.
I find that the E cigg has helped allot of people get from the stage of feeling they need a cigg to the stage where they realise they don't really need it at all and that most of it is in their mind.

Yes it is a strong physical and mental addiction. Worst of Physical withdrawal last 3-4 days, then it lessens greatly then gone. but mental is harder. That’s the part you need a plan. When your brain says have a cig, drink water or sip candy or find out what’s really bothering you at the moment. Identify triggers like being around people who smoke or stress and avoid, counter act and be prepared. Maybe you can’t go out with those friends for a while. Maybe start another habit something to do with your hands - make jewelry or knitting or whatever you want to learn. I went to the dollar movies a lot the first couple weeks. For me I had no problem sitting through movies without a thought of a cig. I could focus on the movie. Point is different things work for different people. Now that my health is compromised (turning 60 this year) what I want vs what I need are the deciding factors. Hope you try again and again and are eventually successful if quitting is what you want or need to do.

It was a living hell, I tried the gum, the patches, and medication, nothing worked. It wasn't until the Nicorette company created their Nicotine Lozenges that I was able to finally quit cigs. Problem is 14 years later I'm still addicted to the lozenges, In fact I actually enjoy the lozenges more than I ever did smoking, and I can do anything anywhere anytime and get my fix, can't do that smoking :) Also I've lost more than half my teeth as well and need dentures (must be a keyboardist thing since Kieth Emerson wore dentures too ;) Anyway we have a lot in common and very similar backgrounds, thanks for sharing your story, I'm sure it will help some of our keyboardist brethren who still struggle quitting the smokes. Hi Chris, Ha yeah, play keyboards and loose your teeth today, I can see the ad now.
Actually the dentures are OK after you get used to having them in you hardly ever notice them, the only problem i have with them is chewing gum, but that can be overcome by using something like fixodent.
I don't use any denture adhesive anymore.
And I'm with you on the "Still Addicted to Nicotine" thing, but honestly I would not even sweat that, just enjoy the lozenge and the hit, it ain't gonna kill you.
One of the hardest things is getting your head round the fact that you can still get your fix but without smoking a cigarette, you are really just changing your delivery system.

They also offered this option called all on one, basically they remove your remaining teeth, and place four implants each top and bottom. Then a full set of dentures is made up and permanently screwed in, so you never have to worry again, like having new regular teeth, problem though is here in the Los Angeles area typically these run ablout US $30,000.00! And insurance doesn't cover it! So yeah one could seriously build a pretty nice studio for that. I think I'm just gonna go your route though and save the money for those inevitable other medical cost down the road, and just be content with my RD-700gx andJupiter 80, Reaper, and iPad apps :)

Great video, thank you! I quit vaping 28 days ago. I smoked for 15 years and vaped for 5. Let me tell you vaping is also bad for you. Yeah it's less harm than cigarettes but don't be fooled. My withdrawal was bad. I had massive panic attacks. Massive. They are subsiding now but Im having lots of other symptoms while my body adjusts to being nicotine free. I regret so much that I started at the age of 15, I was a child. It is what it is. I'm 37 now and Im quitting cuz yeah it began making me feel sick. I also lost my teeth.

Congratulations for quitting smoking. I'm currently trying to quit vaping with nicotine and switch to nicotine free vaping. I feel like your advice of using nicotine replacement therapy for quitting smoking could work for switching to nicotine free vaping. I bought some 4mg Amazon brand nicotine gum which is going to arrive today and I'm going to try to use that whenever I feel like I need a nicotine vape. This is the only quitting video I've seen that doesn't tell people that they have to use the cold turkey method which for me doesn't work. Great job for quitting smoking and excellent video.
