      @@gerardarciga7354 you can get a pretty loaded one for around 40k right now. That is 10k to 20k less than the others. That buys a ton of gas. I know a ton of people that bought a Toyota Prius over a Corolla which get 15 more mpg but is 6k or so more. It would take you roughly 10 years to break even on that difference in mpg. With that said if I was going to buy a new full size truck it would not be a Tundra it would be a 2500 Ram 4x4 with the Cummins. Mid size would be a Tacoma or 4Runner TRD Offroad. I own a 1973 K20 with 383 Stroker so obviously 14 mpg would be a dream. Lol

    Thanks Stephen. Enjoyed both the video and all the comments. My reality is that my 2016 Tundra will be the last truck I'll probably ever need. 1. Its paid for. 2. Routine maintenance since ownership. 3. No need for a computer to tell me how to drive, since I've been accident free driving now for 55 years. There are those who have the need, for various reasons, to have the latest and greatest, however this is more a generational thing to impress others in my opinion. But I respect that its their money (or big car payment) and that fine. I enjoy the fact that I know when I get ready to go somewhere my truck is also going to get me back safely. And it frees up a lot of money - which my grandchildren are happy to spend - Keep up the great work.

      It was still spinning all 4 tires so lockers would have been irrelevant. The traction control keeps all 4 spinning. Now rock crawling is a different story because the traction control isnt putting out enough braking force to transfer the torque in some instances. This was totally driver error, he just stopped for no reason in the worst place. Bad driving on his part. I have a 2003 Land Rover discovery and it has no lockers but will climb like you wouldn't believe. Playing tug of war with my buddy's chevy it spun all 4 tires even with open front and rear diffs, but the traction control on those are very good. They don't reduce engine power at all like most other vehicles, so under full throttle its giving all the engines power. I am going to go with Detroit true trac diffs soon. Once the traction control pulses the brake they will lock up immediately. Without traction control all you have to do with a true trac is tap the brake of a wheel spins and it will lock in. Great compromise if you're not driving a dedicated rock crawler. At first I was going to go with ARB but for my vehicle the true trac is a better option when you factor in costs and the fact you dont have to worry about your air line to the diffs.

On Facebook pages, I’ve seen A LOT of cases, I see guys who are on third motor on 2018 model. Also see people with this problem on 2019 model (Titan, armada.) Nissan seems to don’t have a clue about this problem. The 7 speed transmission on 16-19’ model doesn’t works well too, and seems to be change very often . Neil Murphy sometimes you need it on, other times off because it can cut the power. To go up a steep(ish) gravel road in my 2WD Accord I had to turn off VSA or it just kept cutting the power to avoid wheelspin and I needed the spin to progress. But that’s an older system and different to what’s in these 4x4s

      @@mikek5298 No need to be such a prick, it's a legitimate piece of criticism for a truck that costs almost $50k. I could get a truck from almost any manufacturer with a proper locker for less than the 48k MSRP on these TRD Pro Tundras. Not hating on the Tundra, just this ridiculous package that doesn't deserve the TRD Pro badge.
      I'd rather spend the few thousand extra and just get a Raptor (literally only $4k difference MSRP), unless your intention is to regularly tow heavy loads. In fact as far as off-roading goes I'm not sure why anyone would rather buy this than a Raptor. The price difference is negligible (less than 10%) and you get infinitely more off-road capability out of the Raptor.
      PS - I'm not unable to afford this truck, I just don't want to buy one. I was in the market for a truck in 2019 and could afford this truck just as easily as the truck I actually got. But as someone living in a muddy and snowy area, no way in hell am I shelling out nearly the price of a Raptor for something that can't even lock its wheels. Sorry to burst your fan-boy bubble, but some people can afford trucks and still not want to pay for it.

    Good stuff Stephen. This may not have been the 4Runner breaking through ice run everyone raves about, but it was fair. And the recovery parts were enjoyable as well. Proves not even a standard tractor can get it done. As much as I appreciate the quality of Toyota, I still don't understand what that Tundra is good for. The 3/4 ton that it is, is not competitive in MPG, towing, payload or off road prowess compared to competitors. The Tacoma is, but this thing.. I just don't get it.

Last year hunting I had to pull out a 2500 dodge 4x4 with the diesel and good tires. It was only in 5 inches of mud but was totally worthless. He was getting stuck over and over.I figured it had to be the weight of the truck. My 1500 chevy silverado 4x4 went like nothing was there.

    • @dochollywood1921
      @dochollywood1921 Před 4 lety +4

      @@steverowe2943 well, seeing as V8's now can get over 20 mpg, and some of the V6's out there are rated at mid 20's and have shown to get even higher, high teens in the city and low to mid 20's is more than "acceptable". Heres the thing, when you spend $7000 (according to monroney documents) more in fuel over 5 years, that completely negates the reliability factor. For example, the 2.7 EB monroney says you'll spend 2000 more in fuel over 5 years of ownership. Let's say in those 5 years both turbos go out. Around 5-6k repair bill. That still puts you even or just above what the tundra cost in fuel alone, completely ignoring any possible issues that could happen with the tundra. Thats why the mileage is unacceptable.

      @@dochollywood1921 Yeah right, an awful lot of faith in EPA #'s. Not a lot of difference between the high and the low which certainly throws a wrench into your economics.
