  • Today we make an attempt at getting the sweet little Meyers Manx Dune Buggy running and driving. A little bit ago we assembled and fired up the little 4 cylinder air cooled VW engine on the starter stand. Now it is time to mate it with the Manx and take the beach cruiser for a spin.

Don’t forget there’s another timing chain project out there with the added bonus of a supercharger. Keep up the content, it’s always fun to watch.

If not that my ‘05 LR3 is giving me fits right now. If not that, I was just asked if I was interested in a ‘06 LR3 for parts or long term project. Ha ha

Good choice using the starter from the starting stand. It doesn't need a support bushing in the transaxle. You would have needed to source an adapter bushing. This solution is much more straightforward. Plus that Autostick starter is more powerful.

That’s good to know, it seemed like the right choice when comparing them, granted I’m sure throwing 12v at a 6v starter would help its case some too.

It needs a clutch Bowden tube with a little bend in it.

That’s funny, I’m actually under it now spacing it out. It was straight as an arrow.

A V10 TDI hanging out the back would look pretty cool

I always look forward to what ever your doing on the ranch. It too bad your shop supervisor Sasha is all paws and can't help you out more!

Appreciate that as always, makes it all the more fun. But yeah, Sasha is definitely slowly down some but likes to see the action as well. I guess she can at 12-13 years old, so she is more than welcome to just chill out and hang around the shop.

You always keep us guessing what's coming next, but I'd kinda like to see the Defender or Series projects advance a bit. 👍

There is always odd stuff laying around here. Good news is I think the next video will be on the Defender finally. Just trying to get some of this lingering stuff out of the way.

You should have put the V10 into the buggy!

That would make for an interesting experience! Haha. Would probably need some lead weight up front.

OK that looks cool, Now goggles for Sasha and she can ride copilot in it 🙂 Now are you sure the clutch is not rubbing in the housing still and causing it to drag a bit while under that load? just a strange thought

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před měsícem +2

I was digging around this weekend and I think I may have found the culprit and you are in the right direction on it being the clutch. But they have a Bowden tube that the clutch cable goes through. If there isn’t enough of a bend in that tube/sleeve for flex when the engine moves separately from the chassis it causes a shudder like that. So it may be a somewhat simple solution. The Bowden on this one is fairly straight without much bend. So I’m going to shim that tonight, I’ll report back haha.

The way the engine is jumping it looks like the front gearbox mount is broken

I think I (along with the help of other’s). Have narrowed it down to the Bowden tube for the clutch cable. It doesn’t have enough of a bend and is chattering the clutch.

There is usually someone in the extended family that needs a car, so we have done a good job in stocking everyone up with late 90s/early 2000s BMWs.
