- CHECK OUT THE SHIP BEFORE YOU GET ONBOARD.
So many cruisers get on a ship and have no idea where anything is. there are so many places to find out information about cruise ships that you should know a least a little bit about the ship before you ever step on the ship.
Don you are so right. There’s nothing like walking on these mega ships holding 6-7000 passengers and you’re walking in the wrong direction and have to walk all the way back 🫤😩
Especially check out the ship layout after a ships dry dock! Sometimes renovations causes items to change as well!
Exploring the ship is my favorite bit.
Half the fun for me is checking out videos and websites about the ship I'll be on prior to my vacay start.
I love this series!!! Another tip I like is when you get in elevators, look at reflection in glass so you know which way to go to hit button for floor you are going to. Quite a few elevators its only on one side.
That's a great suggestion. Thanks!
Embarkation day can be a little overwhelming so knowing the ship layout before you get there really eliminates some of that.
I cruise Princess or HAL, but I still check out ship deck plans before booking. What a great tip!
Always always check out the ship ahead of time ⚓️
But it’s more fun to explore and figure it all out 😂. Seriously though my husband memorizes the deck plans and ,lets us know where everything is.
It's all fun when you're on a cruise!!!!
One of my favorite things to do pre-cruise is to learn the location of the venues. So simple!
We always refer to the deck plan while we are on the ships. It’s easy to get turned around on the bigger ships.
Yes, it is critical to get to know the ship. Each ship I go on I do this, especially a ship class I haven't been on.
I’ve always reviewed the ship deck plans before booking, and again before embarkation. Mostly I do this out of excitement beforehand!
It does help to check videos and deck plans before you cruise.
Some preparation can definitely make a real difference in making the most out of your tip and minimizing wasted time and frustrations/stress. Doing your homework can help a lot!
I'm a buffet and pool guy, so I always book deck 15 right below the Lido so I can just take the steps up one floor.
We always watch your ship tour video couple times. Then we look at the deck plan on the application.
I liked the deck maps (paper) they once gave out before app usage
We almost always cruise Princess so we’re familiar with the layout but its good advice for a new ship.
Appreciate you keeping everything on the level!
Hey Don, Really like these tips as these new ships come out they are larger and easy to get yourself turn around and confuse to where things are at.
You’re absolutely right! I was scouting out a 7 nite Canadian maritimes cruise on HAL. I took one look at the ship & said nope! The bathroom looked like a motel 6. Too old! I booked another cruise on a newer ship
And if its a ship that has been around for a few years make sure its an up to date deck plan as many ships get modernised with new amenities put in and even have complete sections removed like Skywalkers nightclub from Grand Princess.
I usually do this, unless we’ve been on that class prior. Good info for others
Familiarize yourself before using the elevator closest to your cabin. There’s usually opposite hallways - one may be even numbers, the other odd. Also, our laundry facility felt further away than the map showed - use one of your rolling suitcases to transport your clothes.
I love your tips DON. Thanks
I always look at the ships before going
Good call, some are so darn big it’s easy to get lost.. or even to the point where you can’t find a spot you know you’ve been to before .. why i don’t like the big boys..
Actually , we think you should look at the deck plans B4 you book a cruise especially if you have mobility issues…just sayin ❤
Good to know where your cabin is and where you’re going.
Really appreciate these tips so true thank you Don
Great advise Don
Very good plan, there's a ton of info on the internet. You can then see and book according to your preferences.
Brand loyalty may help in familiarity.
Going on ovation of the seas in October from Vancouver to Hawaii
Great tip !
Thank you for the tips
I like to explore and be a little surprised
Yes Yes Yes. It makes the first day so much easier and then each day after that.
Thanks for the tip. I never did this before!
Yes! I love to check out ship layout before I go and even ones that I don’t go on. Ha
Most cruise lines have deck plans on their apps, easy....
Good advice
I always look at ship schematic to determine where I want my cabin
Good tip Don
Great video ❤❤❤❤
Keep up the good work!
Great idea for a video
We have noticed on our last 11 Princess sailings, the best service, meals, and entertainment are on the newer Princess ships.
I always say I am going to do this and look at the maps and stuff but when on the ship it seems very different.
Great idea, it is confusing
Since we take princess all the time, we know where things are. We also help people who are lost. But after 6 days and you can't find the buffet, that's on you!!! Plus even cabins on one side, odds on the other. And if you don't know the difference between between odds and evens, we'll I can't help you. Actually happened. I laughed all night
You can also see if there is a ship tour on youtube
One of my crazy fears about the megaships is that I'll be completely lost😱
That’s another reason why I don’t book mega ships.
Greetings Don🇯🇲
#Lido🎉
Checking out the ship and we still got lost
