BCS - Mike Yells At Kaylee

- Mike was still clearly broken about Matty, and his granddaughter's questions pushed him to the breaking point. Add in the fact that he was already hungover, and called to look after her at the last minute. I guess it's reasonable that he's not a happy gringo.

I read somewhere that Jonathan Banks disagreed with this scene and felt that Mike wouldn't yell at her like that.

Normally he wouldn't but the whole thing with Werner and the parallels to his son's killers, how hes become the thing that he has loathed.
@@Ridethecircuswheel it's kinda sweet how attached he gets to Kaylee both as a character and actor but there's obviously a difference between the Mike written by Vince and the one Johnathan plays sometimes

This felt a lot more intense when I saw it the first time
Agreed
I had to close my eyes
The only reason this scene isn't intense to me anymore is because I hold my breath for too long and pass out at about 0:55.
Well obviously, I didn’t know this was coming when it happened.
Probably has to do with the tension being somewhat subtle. At least for me, I didn’t pick up on the fact that mentioning Matty was triggering right away, so it takes a while before you consider Mike might lash out - the scene lacks suspense and comes off more as shocking. Retrospectively and second time through, you see the tension building at the first mention, and it’s more intense.
I find it sad Kaylee took Mike yelling more like a man than Walter White who is an actual man
walter hid in his room and didnt eat his dinner
But at the end Walt was trying get names because he will get caught if he doesn't take care of them. I don't think he had a choice and Mike had it coming

@@darkknight-rf1br nah mike hurt walt’s ego and he lashed out like always lol. it’s like walt said he could’ve gotten the names from lydia, which he did. there was no real reason for him to kill mike
Tbh I feel like Walter wanted to kill mike the day he punched him. Like he didn’t even kill him because he didn’t give the names, he did it because he was throwing a tantrum because mike told him the truth, that everything was good but him! Him and is pride and ego. Walt needed to learn to keep his dam mouth shut.
Kaylee just doesn’t have what it takes for the precise and cutthroat world of playground house building
"WE HAD A GOOD THING KAYLEE, WE HAD MATS, WE HAD A LADDER, WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED AND IT ALL RAN LIKE CLOCK WORK, IF YOU HAD LAYED THEM EVENLY KNOWN YOUR PLACE WE'D ALL BE FINE RIGHT NOW."

What most people don't know: Jonathan Banks was actually the casting director for this episode, and this particular scene was shot while they were casting Kaylee. @@jaysonfigueroa6075 No, she was removed and never worked in Hollywood again.
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
I used to build treehouses a long time ago.
And there was this one girl, this one piece of shit, that I will never forget. We worked on that treehouse ladder every weekend, and I would pull her aside and say "come on, tonight’s the night we make em even." And this wasn’t one of those deep-down "I am making them even" set-ups - we get a lot of those - but not this. Nothing we could do.
One night the call comes in and it’s the usual crap. Not making em even kind of thing. So I cuff her, put her in the car and away we go. Only that night, we’re driving into town, and this sideways asshole is in my back seat saying "but I wanna do it." And it just rubbed me wrong. So instead of left, I go right, out into nowhere. And I kneel her down, and I put my revolver in her mouth, and I told her, "You are done" And she’s crying, going to the bathroom all over herself, swearing to God she’s going to make em even. Screaming … as much as you can with a gun in your mouth. And I told her to be quiet. Cause I needed to think about what I was going to do here. And of course she got quiet. Goes still. And real quiet. Like a dog waiting for dinner scraps. And we just stood there for a while, me acting like I’m thinking things over, and Princess Charming kneeling in the dirt with shit in her pants. And after a few minutes I took the gun out of her mouth, and I say, "So help me if you don't make em even again I will such-and-such and such-and-such and blah blah blah blah blah".
Just trying to do the right thing. But two weeks later she didn't make em even. Of course. She was making a mess. We got there, there was so much uneven steps you could taste the wood. The moral of the story is: I chose a half measure, when I should have gone all the way. I’ll never make that mistake again.

He actually yelled at Stacey many times regarding Matt..so at this moment, when he is at his lowest (cuz Werner) and we know that he still is not fully recovered from the death of his son..It actually makes sense that he would lash out on her..Maybe not that quickly but I still like the scene and it is not out of character like many people say..
I 100% agree. After Werner, he was relapsing. He was hung over and called to take care of her at the last minute. He was clearly a man on the edge. And Kay sent him over that edge. The 2 things that can make Mike lose his patience - Matty and alcohol.
Yeah, I really don't understand why so many comments say this was out of character or bad writing. There's precedent for him lashing out in misdirected anger and it's entirely believable that it would occur when his granddaughter touches on a sensitive subject while he's already guilt-ridden over Werner.
@@notjohn439 I agree it's well written and in character, but when do they establish misdirected anger in Mike's character? I can't think of any examples.
I think people who are saying it's bad are either just watching clips so they don't have the context of the scene, or they don't grasp misdirected anger; hopefully the former.
@@grimtapestry5585 In season one, he lashes out at his daughter-in-law over her finding cash in Matty's belongings and questioning whether Matty was on the take.
@@notjohn439 really nice, I had forgotten about that. Also tied to Matty and Mike's guilty conscience. It's so impressive how they were able to weave so many different narratives together and come out with no loose ends.
I imagine him raising his voice to Walt and pointing at him you are done 😑
I understand why he snapped.. He doesn't want to be reminded of how he broke Matt.
After “You are done” I was half expecting mike then to say “do not show your face at the laundry again”
Not even ashamed to say I dreaded this moment more than Ziegler’s death and Nacho’s surgery on a rewatch.
Such a deep and meaingful scene, the innocence of a child and the sins of the father in conversation. When Kaylee said that Mike taught her father and yet the bad guys taught him, Mike has blame within himself for telling his son to take the bribe which was a factor in his death.
Poor Kaylee 😢😢
IKR, she was asking such innocent questions about who her father was, from one of the only people that knew. And you could clearly see how upset Mike was, and how badly he was trying to hold things in. But clearly he's not over it. It's not Kaylee's fault. But it certainly isn't Mike's either.
GasPanic!2000 Like I get it he’s mad about that and fact he had to kill Werner a guy he probably enjoyed working with but like Mike relax dude I get you’re mad but she’s your granddaughter 😔😔
@@johnblack8658 It's clear that Gus gave Mike a lot of direction, and a lot of purpose to get better, but when he was ordered to execute Werner, he realised that he's no better than the group of corrupt cops that killed Matty because ultimately, Werner was a good guy but working for the wrong group, and made the wrong choices. Yet the whole thing still feels like a little over the top for him, the actor Jonathan Banks himself said he actually disagreed with how he would act, but he acted the scene out anyway, something I kind of respect, because honestly, if the writers of the show say he was pissed enough to yell than he was, this is just one of those extremely few instances of the show where it’s very slightly “ehhh idk”, and to have only like a couple small scenes like that in a 12 season show is fucking impressive lol

The scene does a great job of portraying Mike's trauma. It's refreshing to see such realism in a story. In life, sometimes we take our anger out at those who aren't deserving, even children. But the whole moment was shrugged off by Mike and the show itself, he refused to apologize for snapping. I love this show but I feel like his transition from calm to mad was too fast and it felt a little bit forced to me. Overall though this episode was amazing
comedy Gamez Eh I disagree, he was holding in more than just Matt; it was a combination of Werner and the fact that Gus sees it off as just another obstacle in his way.
@@atinyhorse1455 I agree with you. And also add in to the fact that Mike probably feels like he's just the same as the guys that killed Matty - murdering someone who's working for an illegal/corrupt enterprise who really wasn't a bad person but was working for the wrong people.
