"Jonny Quest", "Josie & The Pussycats", "Space Ghost", "The Herculoids" and "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" : Hanna-Barbera's GREATEST series **EVER**, IMO
I watched this show as a kid overnight on cartoon network as well. I enjoyed it a few years ago too as an adult. Glad some people that made it sat down to talk about it!
This was my favorite cartoon show. I don't know why this show didn't last for very long but boring Simsons will be on forever and that I will never understand.
I really don't get the Simsons cartoon. It is thee longest running show ever and not just in the cartoon category but all shows that ever appeared on TV. I wanted to find out what all the hype was so I tried watching it once. It was so stupid I couldn't even finish watching 1 episode.
Awww, finally, a nice group of people who understands each other. I don't expect everyone to always agree but hate it when unnecessary arguements happen, fighting over a inconsequential comment. Thanks for keeping it nice and peacful on this thread, and wishing everyone a Happy early 4th of July weekend!!! ;)))
This was a time in America where adult shows were still pretty much family-friendly. Most of the episodes of this show would easily get a TV-G rating, with a couple being TV-PG-D for sexual references. It's still tamer than All in the Family, which I also love.
Thanks Oofus! Until today I never did learn his name, or even knew of his existence! They must have phased him out by the late 70s, since I grew up watching a lot of hockey and never, ever heard mention or saw him until now! They should have kept him on TV, his little hockey tutorials would have also cleared up some things I never understood as a kid!
Best bit (from Ralph): Communists, Minorities, liberals, Catholics, hippies, they're all trying to take over the country. Harry: Ralph, that is the country.... and how are they going to take over? Ralph: Pornography and fluoridation. I love this show. It's both a wonderful time capsule from '72, and completely relevant for today, as it tackles: the generation gap, Ralph the neighbor who sees *everything* as a communist conspiracy, and hiring of minorities! I especially love Ralph (here talking about hippies): "I heard him singing those anti-American songs about peace and love"
AstralPixie, the character of Ralph is startlingly reflective of today’s right wing. What was then practically camp humor has come to be surprisingly, even shockingly, real.
Ralph on(Flouridation) Then, when everybody's in surgery, Russia moves in. LMAO when I'd come home on leave along with my mother & girlfriend back then.
It's killing me, I need to know: At :30, What the HELL is that "ice skating sushi roll/tire/skate wheel" character seen in the "Funtastic World of HB" image seen toward the beginning of the video? I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about even the most obscure HB shows, but that image is not ringing any bells...
Does anyone remember a show starts with a cartoon of a father coming home and the house takes the shape of a dog looking around. I believe it was a live action show - but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone remember that show and the name?
That was "My World and Welcome to It", based on the cartoons of James Thurber. It was a live-action sitcom starring William Windom that had animated sequences. It ran on NBC in 69-70 and, just after it was cancelled, won two Emmy awards. CBS then ran an "encore" season of reruns in 1972. There's a few episodes floating around CZcams. czcams.com/video/Jg7dmOFwKVY/video.html
That old woman in the cartoon series looks suspiciously like the droopy-breasted "dirty old woman" in a Playboy (R.I.P.) cartoon. Maybe is was Hustler (no, I was not a fan... but "glanced at others' copies".
Well, seeing as how character designer Marty Murphy actually did cartoons for Playboy, quite possibly Sergeant Whittaker grew out of one or two previous efforts. (She certainly was a rather dirty old woman herself - and proud of it!) 🤭
Maybe someone more artistic can respond. Though they give themselves a lot of credit for the quality of the animation in this video clip, in my opinion, the animation looks pretty simple and cheap, no particular disrespect to the animators intended. Clearly, the emphasis on the story and dialogue, not the art. In terms of animation it leaves me cold.
Honestly? It's saying way more about the time it was made rather than the quality of it overall. Remember that this show is now 50 years old. A LOT has changed - they didn't have any of this "Flash", or "Toon Boom", or other software used for animating these days. The closest they had? A xerox copier. Take a look at its other contemporaries and, yeah, you can see how 'different't and 'innovative' the animation was. IT looks like nothing now, but if you showed someone in the mid 70s a cartoon that aired in the 90s (or even the mid-late 80s) they'd say "Good lord - this is better than DISNEY!"
Wait till you're father is the worst show and for adults I didn't like the show and Hanna-Barbera was meant for kids and family not just adults (and it's my opinion it's the worst show to air)
It's not particularly exploitational, it's intelligently scripted, with endearing characters and a message that spans generations. Doesn't that make up for occasionally slipshod animation? 🤨 🙂
Yes! I'm not the only one who remembers this show!

It's really cool seeing all the people who watched this on old late night Cartoon Network.
This is a very good follow-up of Wait til your Father gets home and other Hanna-Barbera Cartoons.
This was my favorite cartoon show. I don't know why this show didn't last for very long but boring Simsons will be on forever and that I will never understand.
True. At least Harry acted like a real father.
I really don't get the Simsons cartoon. It is thee longest running show ever and not just in the cartoon category but all shows that ever appeared on TV. I wanted to find out what all the hype was so I tried watching it once. It was so stupid I couldn't even finish watching 1 episode.

I have watched 9 seasons of the simpsons
But funny
I watched this back in the 70's when I was a little girl
Loved this show.
Use to watch this show when I started pulling my first all nighters as a kid. Damn, this takes me back.
Tarek Thomas me too! Lol
Same here!
Harry Boyle was the best cartoon dad!
Ralph "Huh Harry, huh, huh, huh"
Thank you for uploading this! I LOVE this show.

It was last seen on Boomerang with a TV-Y7 rating.
I remember this series so well a favorite !!
some of my earliest memories are of this show on our TV set.
Kevcreative, that "round donut thing on skates" is Peter Puck. He was the mascot of the NHL's outreach to kids, in the 1970s.
They need to bring back this show, not in reruns.
2:46 They predicted the weeaboos

It was on from 1972 to 1974.
U are right!

Lefts incorrect perception of Right actually
It's weird that Ralph was supposed to be an exaggeration. Today? He's actually pretty mild.
This show was entertaining and intelligent. I hope they bring it back.
I hope you mean bring the original back to TV!! And not a remake
Busy year for Tom bosley.
Julius rules!
Great show...love it!

His name is Peter Puck, a character who showed up during live hockey games in educational intermission films.
ground breaking''''''''
thanks for giving us WTYFGH !
Now I know where family guy came from lol
Seth LOVED hanna barbera
he even worked at it and drew barney as a kid alot

@@randyriddle2293 Hey, wow, thanks! The power of the interweb!
Wait til your father gets, until your FATHER gets, wait til your father gets home
Family guy would have given them a stroke
I wonder if they got Dale Gribbles character in King Of The Hill from Ralph. They seem almost identical in their beliefs etc..
Nah all of the characters on King of the Hill were inspired by people Mike Judge actually knows in reality :)
Dale's actually not nearly as bigoted though.
Ralph is basically like, you take a moderate GOP politician.
Someone did a while ago...but seems like its been taken off....
I always said Jonny Quest looks like a moving comic book
Also "The Flintstones".
What documentary is this clip from?
I didn’t know what subtle racism was back then as a child. Most western countries did this type of stuff!
I concur, m8....but only to an extent.
It is MY PERSONAL ULTRA-UBER-MEGA **RAVE-FAVES** which *I* happen to be referring to..

Family Guy stole the end credits music!
Hardly the only thing they stole from this show!!! The concept, the character design style, I mean look at Meg lololol

The pilot is here on CZcams digitally restored and it looks fantastic. I think the budget had to be stretched when it went to series.
