Kingdom Come Deliverance is janky but I enjoy it

  • I have enjoyed playing Kingdom Come Deliverance and I think you would too. I wanted to try it before the second game is released and although I made this video only around 20 hours into my playthrough I have since played more and plan on beating the game. This video is a summary of my thoughts of the game so far. I hope you enjoy.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a 2018 action role-playing game developed and published by Warhorse Studios, and co-published by Deep Silver. The game is set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire, with a focus on historically accurate content

Concerning your wish for feedback: nice video, cool slides, you're a likeable dude. as every YT beginner lacks it the most: voice, tone as well as rhythm is really important. yours is cool and all, but you sometimes get a little quiet at the end of sentences. everything else will fall in place. hope you're cool with that form of feedback
and btw, after 2021, my version of the game was never janky again. even in multiple saves (all finished). meanwhile, my best friend got a bug on his console version, making the game's story impossible to complete. it is inexplicable

KCD Is meant to be played In a slower pace and the game invites you to roleplay In It as a badass knight. It's not meant to be Call Of Duty where you have 3.2 seconds to shoot back or your entire team dies! Good on you for playing It, If you make a series you're going to enjoy It and appreciate It for what It Is.

I'm in sort of the same boat as you with this game but I have so many mixed thoughts about it as I do have like just under 60 hours. I think KCD has a lot of issues that break immersion however when it works, this game is gas. The highly complex nature of completion of quests and ones attempts to enact their ingenuity is one of the core reasons the game is loved. However, the game at many times feels extremely tedious as gamers today don't exactly like reading, having to focus so much on dialogue. The game incentives a more streamlined basis of play sessions where you're sort of not allowed to drop the game and to some people who are more casual players might feel like the game just isn't for them. Stealth to me is inherently broken, bows are way too strong, polearms not being able to be sold sucks, some instances of DLC can be just strange and needs a bit more menus to keep people who play informed to not make certain mistakes. Trying to grind to level 10 potions just to autobrew kinda poopoo in the progression, and when you max out killing people to the point you have top tier gear, trying to sell gear when no traders have enough Grochen is super ass.

combat, next to personal skill, is a lot stats-based, but the game doesnt tell you that

I wouldn't call this game janky tbh. It has some bugs here and there, but they're pretty rare. It's not the best quality game out there, but it's VERY good, everyone who played Witcher 3, Fallout/TES games should try it. The world, the story, the quests, the combat, everything felt very good. And it looks beautiful thanks to CryEngine, even on low settings. Sometimes it's really frustrating because of it's camera lock during combat (it doesn't let you do what you want sometimes), but it's manageable if you don't treat it like classic FPS game.
While I was talking about KCD, I remembered the game called Exanima, really underrated and unnoticed rogue-like game that's in development for 10 years already. It has fully physics based combat and movement. Feels janky at first, but as soon as you understand how to move and fight, it becomes very fun. I've spent probably 1000+ hours in this game in the past 7 years of following it's development. Try it, I think you'll like it as well. It's not finished yet, and for some reason this fact usually scares people away. If you'll figure out how to open the manual in the menu and how to open the first door in the story mode, I think you'll have a lot of fun like I did. And I want to ask you to not use the fan wiki for this game if you're going to try it, it's much more fun to figure everything out without any help, trust me. I first played it when I was like 13 or 14, and everything seemed pretty intuitive to me, but I've noticed that a lot of people have problems with it for some reason. If you'll have any problems, there are plenty of tutorials on YT that don't spoil the experience (for example, GilGamesHello made great tutorials on combat mechanics)

I was an insane Witcher fan. Until I came upon KCD. Now the Witcher games look somewhat childish to me. My last playthrough I stayed a peasant for as long as possible. Did every possible side-quest, ran from ambushes, sneaked and killed/robbed/pickpocketed bandit camps. To make things harder did not buy a horse in order not to spoil the "Prey" mission. Hauled my poached game one step at a time across the map. No fast travel in hardcore mode and the "favourite" part when you drag yourself, loaded with game meat or loot and an ambush springs on you... Then you learn the safety of paths untrodden. You memorize the terrain because there is no map markers in hardcore. You learn the rivers and the landmarks, the lay of the land. You look at the time of day and the position of the sun to get direction. You follow the slope so you could get to a settlement. You curse yourself if you fail to reach a settlement before dark as you stumble through dark forests. There are so many approaches to that game - you can be a noble warrior, a disgusting thief and murderer and everything in between. With all the consequences.

I feel you brother... When I play Kingdom Come Deliverance for first time, I directly selected the Hardcore mode without knowing anything about the game (because of my obsession XD) and finished game in a good struggle. I never played the Normal Mode but I must say, Hardcore is WAY BETTER than the Normal Mode. And More enjoyable too. Especially when you need to memorize the terrain, environment or overthink a bit before you do something... Man, it's the best decision I've made... I remember the time when Epic Games gave the game for free... After player 120 hours on there, I bought the game with every DLC on Steam. Best decision in my life... When KCD 2 release, I'll again pick Hardcore definitely and I must say, it's the first game that made me happy like a little child. KCD 2 trailer was again proving how Perfectionist and Obsessive Warhorse Studio is...
It's the only developers I gained my full respect! Thank to them and everyone.

I think the only reason people didn't like it when they tried is the combat. While I love the system, if you don't know anything about it, you feel that the combat system sucks rather then just your charakter being bad. So you think that combat is janky and trash and quit because of that before you can experience combat when your charakter is actually trained. Thats why I think the second one will be way more popular since Henry now has some physical strength and even though enemies might be harder combat will be fast and fluent from the beginning now. Also the diffrent sword skills, you actually have to slice from the directions that it says to activate a skill animation basically, but that too gets explained poorly but makes combat so much better if used.
If people that tried it would have realized that its just their current stats that make it seem unplayable instead of thinking the system is bad then most wouldn't have left I think.

It was mostly just janky NPC interaction with one bug in particular that I showed during the "The Jank" portion of the video where I was talking to an NPC, opened my map, closed it and then I was damaged all the way down to being 1 hp and the NPC just died...for no reason.
