    So awesome. I need to redraw the maps for my RPG - Anywere. The rules and first adventure are written, and I'm now laying out the zines. I'm redrawing the sketches so I can scan them and put the finished game together. I'll send you the PDFs when they're done!

    Always loved the mountains in this map. Thunder Cats was one of my fav's. Had a ton of figures and then made the mistake of moving and putting them in the only moving bags I had, black garbage bags. Along with my full set of hundreds upon hundreds of GI-JOE figures and vehicles, TMNT figures and vehicles and playsets, my Castle Greyskull, and all the figures from the 80's were landfill bound while I was at school. When I got home ready to unload and unpack all my stuff, I find that my entire hobby was gone. Never again. That pretty much ended receiving gifts for me for anything. Never really had birthdays after that either, or any holidays for that matter. Hmnn. Ya. Didn't want that to ever happen again. Just some good 'ol paper and pencil was all I required, if anything at all. I created my own spaces from that day forward. Imagination is free I always say. Can't ever take that away or have it lost. Unless some foul beast claims my skull as a trophy. Good luck with that one foul beast. On that note I am back to worldbuilding. I'm working on the fantastical peoples and places of my current world project and expanding the details of the map. Have fun exploring fantastical realms! Love them.

      I always do my maps from world orbital view, and then zoom in more and more as its needed. I always love that method. I prefer the widest view, with ability to zoom in where I want to explore. I'm a gamer, so I make maps like a game.

Working on drawing fantasy character portraits at the moment but also designing my first city. Just started Keys from the Golden Vault and my players wanted to do it in it's own world so we're creating one together. Also, thanks for all the great Patreon content! Beyond the Borderlands reminds me of those illustrated fold-out poster maps SNES games used to come with, something Tunic also harkens back to. Some of them had a bestiary on the reverse side, echoing how the historical Mappa Marina collected inhabitants and stories from across the lands illustrated. Final Fantasy IV, A Link to the Past, Actraiser, Illusion of Gaia, Mystic Quest, Secret of Mana - I still have mine stored away in a red, plastic, stegosaurus lunchbox in my closet.

    Hey JP - Love your stuff, but I need your help on a topic you haven't covered yet. Maybe you could help me out?
    I've had a fun idea of running a 5e campaign where the players are all small woodland creatures (using Humblewood), and they are thwarting the operations of a '5-star' hotel being run by cloud giants. (think Ratatouille, Stewart Little, Redwood, Toy Story vibes.) Anyways, now that its time to start mapping it out, I'm running into design and practicality issues with the scaling.
    We are going to be playing IN PERSON with minis, and I'd like to keep the default 5 foot squares. .... How would you tackle mapping out the entire hotel?
    Many thanks!

    • @JPCoovert
      @JPCoovert  Před rokem

      This is tricky! Mouse to human scale is already a big jump, but mouse to giant is a whole other thing. I think your best bet would be to draw the hotel like a normal dungeon map but then abstract the movement of the mice. I like using the Close/Near/Far system in my games. You could say near would be two 5 foot squares (a big distance for a mouse on a single turn!) and far would be the other side of a room.

    • @ianoo11
      @ianoo11 Před rokem

      @@JPCoovert the scale IS mouse to human (in humble wood creatures are 4-6 feet) and cloud giants are 25 ish feet. Thanks for the reply, but I want to grid with 5 ft

    Hi, i've been watching your videos lastly and i love them, but i want to ask you something, im making a map for a certain project of mine and i want it to look as good as i can,the map is a pity island with lets say no more than 2 mountain peaks in the center, but the mountains are large and have some ruins in them, so i cant just draw mountains as you usually do, cause those looks like for like larger scale maps and look more like a mountain range, and as i say, the island im making barely have 2 peaks in the middle and go down all over the island
    for clarify more, lets say that the island are just like a big regular plain, but in some especific places the terrain just fall instantly making a cliff
    im trying to make it with this art style czcams.com/video/d1XEVzX5cxg/video.html (its one of your videos)
    just wanted to ask what you think its the best way to represent that exactly with that style and dont look weird, empty or just "flat" in almost all the surface

    • @JPCoovert
      @JPCoovert  Před rokem

      It sounds like you are making more of a region map than a world map. I would make a list of all the important features of the island beyond the two mountains and cliffs. How many towns are there? What about roads and rivers? Are there any other important landmarks. Practice drawing each of those individual elements and then put them all together into a map!
