Makaton - WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD (FEATURING TRELOAR SCHOOL & COLLEGE) - Singing Hands

We were delighted to go and join the staff and pupils at Treloar School and College in Hampshire. Whilst there, we recorded our cover of What a Wonderful World in the sunshine!
Treloar School and College provides education, care, therapy and independence training to physically disabled children and young people from age 4 to 25 years. Provision is both day and residential and students come from across the UK and overseas.
Treloar's has 7 Makaton Tutors who deliver training right across the whole organisation to staff, to help increase better communication with students. The Makaton Tutors range from school & college teachers, SLT & technicians and they've begun to give some taster opportunities to parents.
We meet fortnightly to look at best practice & how we roll Makaton out to everyone.
The College sing & sign / Makaton session is attended by 8 college groups and was started by Denise during Covid, on Zoom, when groups couldn't mix. The choir use translations from Singing Hands Choir sessions and their own translations too and in the last 4 years have made over 200 videos. The sessions are aimed at over 18 students. They usually have 3 larger themed events at the end of each term, where students get involved & record videos (a lot of fun is had!)
The College sing & sign team are made up of 10 to 12 very enthusiastic staff, who give up their own time to record videos & they have their own CZcams under the "Treloar education" umbrella. Student videos are kept for internal use but everyone is involved.
