    Youth racing is till like how racing was in the 90's. People are either forced to spend 15k+ for a 250 hybrid quad or spend at least 5k upgrading a ltz400 or trx400ex. If a manufacturer makes a yfz450r type quad but with a 250 or 400 motor than it would revolutionize the youth racing scene

    I had owned yfz450r '11, it had almost same build: just pipe+ pcV, nerfs, guards and thats all. But on the track it doesnt rip. Most of all becouse of suspension- without stabilizer, shocks, steering stem, soft bar - its too hard to keep in hands. Yes, you can ride fast, jump all tables, but not really long. 3-5 min and your arms are absolutly dead. While on same track you can ride on mx bike 15-25 min for same phisical stress.

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  Před 9 lety

      Anton Nikitin We've spent a lot of time tuning these shocks and have them working rather well. We wonder how many people buy aftermarket shocks these days and go backwards in performance. For a fast guy at the nationals, well setup aftermarket shocks may help, bur for most racers, it isn't necessary, especially if you think you have to have them to compete. A steering stabilizer would be our next addition after the parts we added in this build. Thanks for watching.

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  Před 9 lety +1

      For now we are using the map that came with the Power Commander for the full GYTR pipe and filter. It got rid of most of the hesitation. We plan on trying out the map written for the Two Brothers slip-on exhaust and the air box lid removed, to see how it works.

    Is it normal for the exhaust header to have a glow at night? Yoshimura told me it was fine as long as I don't see the glow in the day time It only does it at night when I let it sit and idle.

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  Před 7 lety +1

      We've seen it on our machines. Just make sure that your machine isn't hesitating at higher RPMs, or backfiring on deceleration. These could be signs that the engine is running lean and needs additional fuel. If you added an aftermarket exhaust and didn't add a fuel programmer you may be running bit lean.

    • @johnnieldoctor
      @johnnieldoctor Před 7 lety

      I have a power commander v on it. Set on the map for it, running very strong the glow at night was just a concern. I feel better now thanks for responding.

    So what about in 2006 when Suzuki released the ltr? It came with wider a arms and fuel injection. Plus to get 7 more horse out of it all you had to do was buy a Yoshimura cherry bomb($30) Remove the airbox lid and remove the baffle out of the exhaust. Then all you had to do was throw a set of nerfs on there and a tether and there you go. The Suzuki was also quite a bit cheaper than the yfz. New ltrs around here were around the $7200 whereas the Yamaha was closer to $8000. So for $7700 your quad was ready to win. You guys never stated how much you actually put into the quad. I understand it may be because of fluctuating prices due to location. I'm not trying to start any fights or anything like that just bringing up a point. Also look at it this way, you have to pay more for the gytr stuff and the r version of the x where Suzuki has one ltr. So like I said. im just bringing up a point and was curious about it.

      You will need to hook your PCV up to a laptop computer to reprogram it. Or you could call a motor builder like DASA and ask them if they will sell you their map for your ATV. With your ATV's year, make, and model Dan should be able to get you a map that will perform pretty well. Or you could ask FMF if they have any support.

    If you buy a 2014 or 2015 you have to spend around 1000$ to get rid of the "bog" just google it, you'll need a vortex programmer/ECU 700$, full exhaust 300-500, and an intake, FCI is the the best, 250$

    • @Jkylex
      @Jkylex Před 9 lety

      A msd blaster or power commander (pcv) will work too, both 300-400$ but the vortex isn't a piggyback controller like them, it's like a new ECU and much better although expensive

      +Anthony Schmidt depends on your definition of race ready. my best advice is to get ahold of some front shocks that do have reservoirs, and then send them out with your rear shock and have them revalved. that will be dollar per dollar the best value and most important mod. after that, tires obviously. a 8" beadlock in rear. 19" in back 20" up front. then maybe a 13:1 piston and have 4 stroke tech port the head.

    "One of the main reasons people are worried about racing is the cost. We're out here racing on less than $10000." Yeah, because everyone has $10000 to just go out and buy a brand new quad and race. Most people don't have $3000 to go buy a quad and get it ready for race day...

      +marinesniper195 Money is harder to come by. That was the point of this build. Its funny that now we've been criticized by those who thin k our machine isn't expensive enough and now you think its too expensive. If you want to race a new machine, this is about as affordable as it gets. If no one buys new machines and no one builds them anymore, used machine prices will go through the roof. We remember when ragged out 250Rs were selling for 5k back in the 90s.

    Nice. Sucks that they sell them off the floor so choked down. No one buys one and leaves the stock exhaust. That'd just be silly. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      Agreed. They have to choke them down to make them EPA compliant for off-road use though.

    Too bad there's nowhere to ride anymore because tracks left and right are banning quads.

      Lack of turnout is a sure way to get promoters to drop ATV classes. Three wheeler clubs get together and get promoters to allow them to add classes at motocross events. Its a matter of getting sufficient numbers and working with promoters. Running ATVs at the end of the program means we wouldn't mess up the track for bikes, which is another big reason for quads being banned. The most important thing is to go out ad ride and support the people who support ATV riding and racing.

      Fox250R Its not about the exhaust, its about the fuel mixture. We recently used an HMF fuel optimizer, tuned it, and had good results, with no bog. It is the second fuel management system we have used. Both it and the Power Commander we used in this test both came too lean off the bottom and needed a good amount more fuel added at lower RPMs.

      One strange one for a person who already owns a yfz450r this is very much a budget build . Back in 1998 dirt Wheels took a stock 400EX and turned it into a Motocross ready machine. Their budget for that build was $10,000, the same budget that we used for this build. Fact is, this yfz450r would beat that machine for the same amount of money 20 years later. Of course, you could buy a raged-out used race bike for far less.
