It wasn’t enjoyable for me anymore, seeing new guys every year, not even having enough time to learn the players names before they skipped off to the NBA. I want guys who WANT to play for Kentucky. I want to watch the players develop and grow over their years at UK. His recruits didn’t give a damn about the name on the front of their jersey, they came for him, and they can leave with him too. Good riddance. Now we can get an actual coach who understands and respects what Kentucky Basketball is all about…winning.

    In my honest opinion, Coach Cal is not the great coach everyone claims he is, his name is so popular simply because he was head coach for so long here in Kentucky!! You could literally put any average person as head coach for the Kentucky Wildcats Program as Head Coach and the person would absolutely blow up in popularity in media. EVERYONE that knows anything about college basketball knows Kentucky is the very top of the “Standard” in college basketball! The reason for that is absolutely because our fan base are so loyal and die hard. The fans make Kentucky program so wildly popular, jot calipari

  • @wsteele5864
    @wsteele5864 Před měsícem +4

    Let's start with the myth that Cal is responsible for so many "kids" making it to the NBA. Those "kids" would have made it to the NBA whether Cal had them at Kentucky or they went to any of their other choices laid in front of them before they committed to Kentucky. Someone pointed out that Cal clearly did know how to coach in the past. The truth is he got really comfortable with his fame and the myth above to want to put in the hard work that yields championships.
    Will he be successful at Arkansas? I think he likely will for a year or two, as his ego will drive him hard to "prove the Kentucky fans wrong", but then, he will just return to the fork and it will all slide away again. Cal isn't interested in working as hard as it takes to win on the biggest stage.

    On Musselman's success at Arkansas (3:33) he had the S16/E8s in his first four years (first year was COVID so no tournament). I don't know enough details on the rosters but usually tells me that he won with the previous coach's recruits. Similar thing at Michigan with Juwan Howard. Started coaching the same year as Muss, 1st year: no tourney, 2nd year: E8, 3rd year: S16, 4th year: NIT second round, 5th year 8-24 season. Hopefully for USC fans Muss does a good job. As a fan of another Big Ten school, I hope he does terribly lol.

    Cal will win, but he isn't gonna go in a historical run like he did when he first arrived at UK back in 2009. He will keep Arkansas relevant, but i highly doubt he ever wins another championship. Cal always been a good recruiter, but he didn't start getting elite back to back classes until he got to Kentucky. Kentucky got Calipari at the right time in his career, right when he entered his prime and the sad truth is the man is on the back end of his career, he is getting older, and you can tell how much he has aged since '09 as well. He will keep Arkansas relevant, but that's about it. I just find it strange that he left after supposedly was gonna he an ambassador for the university once he retired.

    When you are the 2nd highest paid coach in division 1 basketball and you brashly tell the fan base that you don’t care about winning the SEC or SEC tourney you lose a lot of respect. Then when you can’t get out of the first round but one time in 5 years but you brag constantly about how great your recruiting classes are and talk constantly about the NBA you lose respect. Then you admit you never work on defense spring summer and most of the fall and you lose because you have the worst rank defense of any major college program you lose respect.
    I appreciate what Cal did for Kentucky and for the players but you can’t be so arrogant and refuse to look in the mirror. Kentucky fans do not expect a championship every year as so many try to say but getting past the first round when you constantly get talent is expected. But you’re not going win with all freshmen either and he simply wouldn’t change and honestly his ego won’t let him. It’s sad way to end a career and his last 5 years will determine how he is remembered.

The ONLY 2 to ever be legit top 3 at their position at any point would be Davis and Rose. And both of those guys flamed out to injuries. Davis is the only Cal recruit to have a leading hand in winning an NBA title. Again, not a good stat at all when you look at how many guys he puts into the NBA. Since 2009, which is when Cal took over at Kentucky, there have been only three NCAA coaches that have won more than 1 natty, none that have won more than 2 in that 15 year time frame. Everybody can’t make it to the championship every year as long as they put an effort that’s all that counts. There’s only one winner per year.

    Calipari is so rich he has lost his edge as a successful coach and will never get it back. Look at Uconn's team and talent.
    If KY had faced this team they would have been destroyed. KY had lots of talent on paper but lacked actual performance.
    Good coaches can somehow get players in big games to perform above their talent limits. Cal can't get players to perform
    at even a PAR level. So in 2 years or less fans in arkansas will be putting up for sale signs in Cal's yard. A leopard never
    loses its spots.

    MAYBE with a Billionaires NIL money in hand.....but overall, hes nit a good coach, he won because he got the best players years ago, not so much now. People need do understand the NIL and Free Transfers killed his schtick? So, all those 5 out of the top 10 freshmen were great at one point, then when teams could shore up needs with free transfers, that put him behind the 8-ball. Bama brings in Nelson and Estrada, in past years instead of going 13-5 they would have fallen to like 9-9. He never learned that the transfer of upper classman were more important than one and done freshmen. Also, UK, Kansas, UNC, we know were using the AAU to back door pay players, its just a fact, now with NIL, those days are over. I think he's a bad coach who knew how to game the system. Now that he has the promise of the Tyson NIL money, he will again get the players he wants.

    Coach Cal will have something in Arkansas he never had at Kentucky. He has Hunter Yurachek. Yurachek will take care of everything behind the scene. Coach Cal will never have to lobby for more NIL money, or anything for that matter. You heard him say in his press conference, that coaches win games but administrations win championships. That was a dig at Kentucky, and a thankful sigh of relief for Hunter Yurachek. And yes, he will succeed at Arkansas.

      Dude, that was his way of escaping any kind of accountability, as usual. Just like he always tries to pull the "they're only Freshmen" crap. Cal was given every resource imaginable at UK and had all of the talent to make it happen. Not to mention being the highest paid Coach. Blaming Barnhart for him being a subpar game Coach is laughable. He has 1 title in 32 years. And one tournament win in 5. UK let Cal do it exactly his way. And the results simply havn't added up

      Success as a head coach in the NCAA isn't determined by championship wins. To coach for 32 years and improve lives of other people (ie. All those recruits) that's a success that not every coach sees.
