The only advice ive got for young welders is save your money. Before long you will be old and wondering where it all went. Start a roth IRA and contribute the maximum amount. Live within your means. This business can be tough. It's boom or bust. Save enough to get you through the slow times.
Yeah man a lot old timer welders tell me since I’m doing welding in school they tell me hey save your money no matter what welder you become cause work can be slow don’t spend it like crazy
You guys are the real deal. This video needs to be mandatory for all high school kids. My 12 year old asked about my Lincoln 140. Today at 15 she uses her Hobart champion elite. No regrets never look back.
Man thanks for the words at the end there. Really helpful with everything he said im 21 out here in CA just trying to get my career rolling and its tough when u have no experience and having to learn hands on. So those last words your bud said inspire me
Keep doing what your doing men, nothing more satisfying than working for yourselves rather than the man. I’ve done a lot of welding through a major crane manufacturing company, and at the end of the day your just a number to them.
Hey brother! I subscribe and I love watching your all videos. I want to be a rig welder just like you and I’m half ways finished with my welding school. Your one hell of a chill cool dude, your always in a good mood smiling.
Sometimes its hard to be in a good mood. Ive found when youre happy you make others happy! Your mood, and attitude rubs off on those around you! Let me know if you have any questions about welding, and I will try and sneak them into a video!
I'm a crane operator I've lived in my 43' fifth wheel toy hauler for years now going job to job I love it.People ask me where I live I tell It's where I'm parked.
I like that I'm a electrician and do commercial work so I can relate to it . You should do one like that but your friend asking you the questions . I like it keep making more videos
you guys have your shit toegether for being young.. your not cocky and seem to be humble wish i would of pursued something like this when i was younger
I worked on a new construction project at Exxon in Baytown Tx back in 96. There where two stages of units being built at the same time. On my side, we had about 15 rig welders. We all worked for the same outfit and word got out that the other side of the project was paying a dollar more than ours. Welders were pissed and said they were not going to weld until they found out why. Job shut down and we all had a meeting in the lunch area. I remember walking over there and they had busses parked outside. Long story short, the Exxon project manager gave a bs reason why and said if anyone doesn't like it they could get on the bus and hit the gate. I swear to God all 15 of them welders drug up! THAT is what made me want to be a welder! Them dudes drug a job over a freakin dollar.
Possibly through different subcontractors - were they working directly for the main contractor? I've know many folks who have quit a job for another that paid $5 a day more but that had 2 more hours of commuting a day with a bunch more fuel costs to do so. Basically making their work day 2 hours longer for even less in their pocket after travel expenses.
Happy New years from Navajo nation arizona,,,good vids,,,,we all can related to that business in welding win some and lose some.....o weld.....off to the next job......bye yall later
3:38 I've tried to find this song everywhere. Google reckons it is like you by disfunction? But I can't find it anywhere, please tell me where to find this song
Great video bro, I'm in welding school right now and not sure if I want to go to pipeline or stay in the refineries. Where you at right now and how do you see the pipeline industry 5 yrs from now ?
Nice video. I have been putting off for years to get my cert. I am starting end of August and so stoked I am doing something I actually want to do. Is most of the best jobs out in West Texas? I’m in deep south Texas
Kicked off for hurting someones feelings... Back in the early 90s I got an engineering degree, worked in an office a couple years and left to work on sites. Went from 1200/week to 80 bucks a day to push a broom. Never looked back. I ended up making good money on the sites, but the reason why I preferred the jobsites is you get paid for your abilities, and fuck the politics.
Zachariah Lawson I retired from the Navy last year after 20 years welding. Always wanted to do what you were doing. After marriage and kids life takes you different directions. I'll be following.
keep on truckin guys, you seem to have great attitudes. A lil advice though, turn the wick down on that truck, if you dont like replacing exhaust gaskets. No reason to feed it 2 bar of boost just driving around, even if it is awesome!
Happy new years fellow road dogs, we all know all the road goes. People who aint road dogs well they dont know something about lack of exposure. Hope the company that blackballed ya'll finds some jam up hands to do their bs work.
Getting black balled happens so often, I don't even acknowledge it any more. The funniest one was for no-showing at a job that I specifically said I Wouldn't go to. At a job in AZ on Saturday. They wanted me in SC on Monday morning. I said I can't get there that fast, but thanks for the offer. 2yrs later I go to work for them, they said I was blackballed for not being in SC.
Brandon Brunner you do that to keep from blowing the slag from cutting the opposite side of the pipe all over the inside you haven't cut yet, and they're talking about a 50LBS tin not a cardboard box of rods.
Got a nice rig & welding equipment!!! So, lucky in that way! I found this video searching out welding vids!!! I am not a welder!!! Just someone who wants to be a better welder & needing better equipment!!! I set out to get a stick welder & saw a harbor freight add, saw a stick welder for $89 or 99 bux. Went there & they were sold out so, I bought a 90 amp wire feed bottom of the barrel equipment, NOTHING LIKE WHAT YOU GUYS USE & ALL I KNOW IS, I NEED BETTER EQUIPMENT! I still want a good stick welder but, I really want a tig welder so I can weld steel & stainless. I want to be able to weld anything, any thickness of steel & other metals & don't have money to waist on the wrong machine! I mostly do auto repair so, honestly, frame & exhaust repair & welding sheet metal is mostly what I run into but, if I want to build my own crane or press, I need to know what machine's would be best? im thinking about a tig180 or 200 & for stick welding, idk yet? im also wondering if I shouldn't buy from harbor freight? im a newby & dunno sht so, that's why I like your vids, try to show me wsup!!! a day in the life!!! wish I had a good job!!!
i aint into talking feeling but fuck yeah its nice to hear theres people out there who get ran out too heres to getting your card pulled once in a while to feel alive
I want to get into this , how ? I haul Sand and see these guys a lot , I like to create things instead of just driving , I am doing very well pay wise doing sand +$2000/week . Was a singlehanded in 80 working at seldon rd by Bayton Exxon plant . Word got around one morning right across the road they were paying a whopping 25 cents a hr more. So at lunch I Walked across the rd and got hired, went backed and drug up. This would h appened but not usually in the same dy
That's messed up you and your welder got runned off. But that's how the cookie crumbles Sometimes some people get butt hurt about something you say to them while you're working with them sometimes
fish on ohio that happened to to my millwright Forman he was all ways rushing me to get he’s early complet bonus and I kept arguing with him about I’m gonna do shit right the first time I’m not climbing 400+ ft for someone eals fuck up or my fuck up because they want to rush me ragged

Wonder if maybe you could give me some tips on how to get started with no welding experience and backround and how to get my first job as a helper or anything else to get me started on this business
Hey, Zach. I see you talk about practicing welding after work sometimes. Can you emphasize on what you practice on? Im a structural welder looking to make the transistion into pipe and wpuld like to see what you do to improve. Thanks! Bye you later!

My own brother didn't have my back when I got blackballed for sticking up for him...some family 😪
Lmao! I've never seen a dog so comfortable in a truck. Buddy did not want to leave.
My dog hates the truck to her core. Shakes and drools the whole time. They def got their own personality
Nice video and my hat off to both of you for being such hard workers and going after your jobs!!
You guys are the real deal. This video needs to be mandatory for all high school kids. My 12 year old asked about my Lincoln 140. Today at 15 she uses her Hobart champion elite.

Was that guy a foreman? I’m not sure if he mentioned it....
Awesome video man. I'm kinda confused about the part of the story about smashing the rod box and using it for something. Could you explain?

Just depends on what kind of welder you buy and what tools you use and the truck.
Ur been working for 17 years and you only have 10k save?
Is that the guy that was born on the right away with his doctor as his helper.
Yes. The one and only.
Welders last of the dying breed! 👩🏭👨🏭
Blackballed? Must be nice that they have so many welders to pick from that they can play silly games like that. :-(
Not talented, experienced ones anyway.
