Toyota 3A Engine, start up after sitting for 10 years, prep work

- The engine was out of an 1984 Toyota Tercel, the engine has sat for 10 years. I am showing in this video a start up, and some prep work on getting the engine running.
This engine is carbureted, the only electronics are inside of the distributor for the ignition also the alternator has a built in regulator. There are only a couple of wires to get this engine running, these engines were said to be very reliable in there day. 1997 and. back they are tough as nails. Use to drive a lot in my business. Proper maintenance and they'll go close to 400k without a lot of trouble. The amazing thing about them is if you tear one down and look at the cylinder well even with 250 K miles you can still see the cross hatching on the cylinder walls amazing metals they use to use in the castings. Corollas had one of the best Engines Toyota put out

I have a 1980 Corolla Tercel with 55,000 orig. miles. Love the engine in these cars. Super easy to work on.
I turned one of those sideways once to make an all wheel drive buggie....used AMC dana 44 drive axle for rear...cut down toyota front....was a blast...

That engine is still running great. Has a lot of life left.
Just started a Nissan patrol with a td42 starter after around 15 years and started hitting straight away and fired up typical old diesel

nope, not exactly the same, this is the 3a-c engine which was used in north America, the difference was emissions equipment and others installed on the engine

Get the exhaust manifold on quick before the valves get warped. Other than that, runs like almost like new. :)
I know this is old. Ive got an 81 tercel with this motor. Crank no starr. 4 point check done. Still cant figure it out. It wants to start so bad. There is little water in the oil, so head gasket no good, but shouldnt it atleast start with a blown headgadket? Help someone pls
Im still driving my 1985 Tercel with this exact engine to work every day 50 miles. Why lease when I can I drive this thing til ? ;-)

I have a queston, will the 3 speed transmission that's on my engine bolt up to a 22R engine ?

cool video. my 84 corolla has been sitting for a while and cant get it to stay on. after recharging battery and using some starting fluid it will turn on but it will die if i release accelerator. pump seems good, but i am sure fuel is turned to gunk by now. need to run some tests. any suggestions?
i could be the carb messing up my suggestion is to replace it if you dont know to much about carbs

I would clean off the rush and make it look new and find a old 80s toyota tercel or corolla shell only for at least $200-$400 for the body.
