Justin Jones, who was just expelled by Republican lawmakers from the state legislature after supporting students in a gun control protest at the state capitol, joins Joy Reid live from the legislative chamber. "If you didn't tell me this was happening to me, I would think it was 1963 instead of 2023, because what we are seeing is a predominantly-White supermajority undoing democracy, forcing their will on my district, which is a predominately Black and Brown district, one of the most diverse in Tennessee," Jones tells The ReidOut on MSNBC.

I just saw another video where this young man say he does plan to take this to court as he should and I hope the other Justin follows suit; but as I heard one of the analyst say, this could be a sign of "Good Trouble" as the late John Lewis use to say. As the analyst put it, back in the 60's when African American's were being silenced and bullied, it looked as if they were losing the fight but instead they were actually winning. This could be the same scenario. Also, this "Good Trouble" could be a wake up call for the young and upcoming voters in the state of Tennessee among other states across this country; case in point, Wisconsin where the Dems took control of the Supreme Court, huge surprising victory since it will mean district maps (gerrymandering which were done to favor the GOP) will be looked at and of course revised for an evenly divided and fair split among other things. Who was responsible for this win? Voter turnout among the young was huge for the first time in decades.
He can run again and be voted back in. The democratic caucuses can place them in office as interm representatives also. They'd finish out their term until the next election or a special election. If have a feeling they will return. Mr. Jones lives in my district, and I'll vote for him!

They can't just expel an elected representative on a whim - making up arbitrary rules and standards as they go. If he violated an actual law or State House rule that's one thing. (And even then there are other measures like censure or stripping the person from committee(s) before taking the unusual, extreme and overly punitive action of expulsion.) But he didn't. And because there was no actual rule that he violated I simply think the House Leader's action should not be recognized. It is and unlawful act. Rep. Jones was put their by the People of his district, which supersedes the authority of the House Leader. I think Rep. Jones has a slam dunk unlawful termination lawsuit available. I'm sure there are law firms lined up to represent him, licking their lips. This was just really dumb by the TN State House. What a national and international embarrassment for Tennessee.

The Tennessee house of representatives are outright wrong for doing this and they also violated this reps' right to protest by simply naming it disorderly conduct to be able to use the Tennessee constitution article 2,section (12) which does state that the house makes the rules and also that the house can punish or even expel its members for disorderly behavior. but the thing is, when I say that the house violated this representatives right to protest I am not speaking about the U.S constitution first amendment right I am referring to the constitution of the state of Tennessee article 2, section (27) which reads " Any member of either house of the general assembly shall have liberty to dissent and protest against any act or resolve which they may think injurious to the public or to any individual and have the reasons for his dissent entered into the journals". this representative was attempting to articulate his dissent over gun control on the assembly floor and was denied the opportunity to complete this constitutionally protected action and had to go to the well of the chamber making him have to speak louder to complete stating the reason for his dissent after not being allowed to finish on the floor and this was deemed to be disorderly because they didn't like what he was saying. instead of entering what this representative had to say into a journal as the constitution calls for they argued with him, insulted him, and fabricated a reason to vote him out and did it, this was a violation of the constitution of the state of Tennessee.
They were expelled for having the audacity to come to the house floor and speak out! The vote from the legislators was racist,plain, and simple. I so wish someone were able to take pictures of what happens to a body when hit with a bullet from an AR 15 rifle,then send those pictures to every republican who is against some type of ban on those guns!
