Probably more tech including active aero which could probably require lots of hydraulic systems thus more weight. Obviously cars get heavier due to more strict safety requirements.

Some people that don’t have idea about cars (mosty) just check the engine size and thats it not looking at the stats and so on. I wont mind it F1 goes V4 as long as its powerful im in. Porsche 919 Evo (i think even faster than current F1) has a V4.

I've been watching F1 for a very long time. And I must say, the people that run the sport have done an absolutely phenomenal job of consistently and continually making it worse.
I agree. The first race I watched (coincidentally) is when Max got his first win. I'm Dutch, I support Verstappen (for what he does as a sportsman anyway), I've been there through all of those dominant Mercedes years, and yet, this is the most boring F1 has been to me since the day I started watching. He's winning every race now, and yet I'm watching fewer races now than I did when Mercedes won every race. I watched nearly every race back then, and this season I've watched less than half.
I have watched* F1 since 1979. 1986 to 1991 was the peak then it started to go down hill and has continued to do so almost every single one of the 32 years since - it's now unwatchable (hence my qualifying asterisk at word 3) for those of us blessed to see the peak years around 35 years ago. Looks like they are hell bent on even further continuing the 30+ year process of ruining F1 as badly as humanly possible.

Max gave 5 arguments: 1. The combination of new rules (in its current unfinalised form) give such weird results like having to downshift at the end of the long straights 2. ICE will play more role than aerodynamics, which can lead to expensive "horse power wars" 3. Some of the aerodynamic elements will be automated outside of driver's control, which makes it weirder for the driver and F1. Driver should be in control, not the system 4. Drag will be reduced, which will result in more Albon-trains™, where either cars won't be able to pass, or F1 will have to include a more powerful DRS-system 5. Weight of the cars will be increased again And some people focus on #2, saying he only says these, 'cause he is afraid, that Red Bull won't be able to produce a good enough engine. For #2, yes, maybe you can say that. But taking that out of the context of full 100 seconds long answer is ridiculous. And a driver like Max, unlike Horner, for sure can easily go and find another team with a better engine in 2028+, if he wants to. So, potential engine problems of Red Bull is not the deciding factor for him in his remarks

Thats the plan, not sure how people are not seeing this. By the next decade the PU i feel will be phased out and we will be left with either only batteries or get a generator to sustain the power levels. I also dont think there is any way to avoid this. I dont want it to happen.

This guy never fails to give legit answers to questions. Most of the the other drivers just give media briefed type answers, max actually speaks his mind when he’s asked a question.
It’s F1. If the engineers make an incredible breakthrough in power or performance they get penalized. I say they should limit fuel flow and electrical output and let the brilliant engineers behind the cars (that are almost identical) run free. They can develop their own tactical strategies to maximize power and speed and limit weight and drag. More variety, more interesting, more fun.
He has by far the most knowledge of that. In his karting years he build all the karts he drove together with his father. Also the engines. All the other guys had mechanics, catering, cleaning personnel. Not Max. Just him, his father, a big van and a kart. The drove all over Europe together. They did everything together. Unbelievable. That is what Newey said: Max is by far the most technical driver of the grid and a blessing to work with. Jos had that too. Very technical guy.
@@SyeDrumswell for some drivers that isnt obvious. There are lots of driver who can drive a car extremely fast but doesnt have the knowledge of the technical aspects. Thats one of the reasons they choose Verstappen above Ricciardo back in the days. Because Ric doesnt have that knowledge. Most of the drivers can explain what they feel in the car but not wich changes they want to fix the problem. Drivers like Verstappen knows exactly what he need. To fix that is the team their job
For the Max haters: Max is a purebred racer, before and after the race he goes back to racing in the sim. in his offtime he races in the sim. his life is racing. he wants to race, yes currently RB is the most dominant, yes Max is winning, but its boring for him too. he wants closer battling, and he wants whats best for the sport, not whats best for the circus.
We all need to push for more competitive racing. The goal for F1 to have different drivers able to win at a race weekend is a failed fantasy. Imagine Leclerc and George and Lando in the equivalent to the RB.
He loves to race, when he's winning. But like most F1 drivers, he's a whiner when not a winner. Even when he's winning he whines. 'zero traction' comment in practice 1 for evidence. Im not a redbull fan or a max fan but he is completely right. F1 and the large manufacturers like Mercedes focus too much on their image promoting sustainability for marketing reasons, and they forget about the pure racing the fans want to see.

This is why Marko is concerned about Max punching out of F1 prematurely. Max is going to find success wherever or whatever he decides to race. The owners of F1 need to make sure they preserve the originality of the sport and not let the FIA run it from the back room. Bernie was much reviled but he helped make the sport the spectacle it is now. Being ruled by committee now will only see it diminish from here.

Not a massive Max fan but can of course appreciate and respect his massive talent. He is absolutely correct here. These cars look like tug boats compared to anything pre 2014. I started watching F1 in the Schumacher/Hakkinen era and looking back at my favourite era of cars from say 2003-2008, the cars have gradually got bigger and heavier, and mostly slower (with the exception of the most dominant years of red bull and then Mercedes) and now the FIA want to add even more weight and less horsepower? I've followed f1 for a long time and the last couple seasons debated cancelling my subscription due to the way the sport is going. If 2026 regs go ahead, that will be it for me along with a huge percentage of fans, and by the sounds of it, drivers. Not heard a single drive say anything positive about these regs. Imagine giving someone like Adrian Newey the freedom to just go and build a fast car. Taking safety into consideration so they're not literally 'too fast' but please scrap the sustainability side of things, that's what formula E is for. F1 has always been about the pinnacle of speed and engineering. With the odd exception, every season the cars just look slower, heavier and stiffer

I agree the cars are heavier, and bigger but the cars are not slower at all. They might not have the same top speed but they go over corners super fast in comparison

Some lap records still stand from 2003-2006 (for example barichello Monza, Schumacher at Albert park etc) were set nearly 20 years ago. With the technology available in 2023, those lap records really shouldn't be still standing. And none of them are being set this year - a lot of them are Mercedes and red bull from the last decade. Yup and because the engine power and electric power are going to be 50 50 in 2026 means that during the race they will race with only 500 to 600 hp because it is impossible to recharge the battery every lap. If this goes through it would be a huge downgrade and the fun and speed of f1 will be gone
Literally everything Max said here is the truth. Especially with the weight, even the 2016 era type cars were too heavy. A return to the size and weight of the early 2000’s would do wonders for the sport.

Yeah 22 was better for racing, but team are now going for more outwash which is now making it harder to follow cars again. Just look at the floor, 75% of the air is flow outwards to protect the rear tire. They need to ban this, or limit the effect
@@presleyshand4156I do get your point, but I must say that the floor needs most of the air to leave early for the ground effect to work, the higher pressure air leaving means there's lower pressure underneath, and so their is lower pressure underneath than above the floor, sucking the floor to the ground, creating downforce
So they said they were going to try and reduce weight... it's going up instead. They said they might try to ditch DRS (possible thanks to lighter cars and less dirty air) now instead they will need an even more powerful DRS system. I hate everything about this.
When I first looked at the 2026 regulations, my original thought was that they would be very similar to the power and weight of the LMP1 hybrid cars of 2015. ~550hp from the ICE, ~400hp from batteries, 850kg? that's almost the same numbers as a Porsche 919 except the F1 car's weight includes the driver already. WEC racing was probably at an all-time peak with Porsche, Audi, and Toyota duking it out for 24 hours straight, passing each other at different parts of the race. But when I really think about it, the magic was because Porsche, Audi, and Toyota all had different engines, different cylinders, different battery sizes, heck Audi used diesel. I'm not sure it would be anywhere as entertaining if all the cars had the same powertrains, and constantly had to conserve fuel and batteries non-stop.
That’s the case with this whole woke problem; the production of wind mills produce huge pollution, popularity in electric cars give a rise in the production of batteries and to deliver on that demand, people resort to child labor in bad circumstances. Forbidding paddock girls actually takes away their *own* choice and I guess right to be one. Plus, many more examples.

First off, windmills at the end of the line remove lots of pollution even though of course production (like producing pretty much anything) has its own carbon emission. Lithium mining might have very severe consequences in some of the world, but the solution is not to stop the development and consumption of electronic cars, but finding a sustainable way to mine lithium that does as little as possible damage to the environment. And allowing paddock girls to choose to be there of their own accord would be okay, if there was also that equal opportunity for men to model amongst the cars, which of course wouldn't happen. In addition to that, there are more than enough reasons why this dehumanized form of modelling contributes to gender inequality and misogyny, irrespective of whether or not the people that are the subject of this would like display themselves that way or not.
The basic guideline should be to lower the car weight (not just racing cars!!) as weight leads to additional safety measures which adds more weight and also requires more bhp… usually also linked to heavier engine/ battery packs…
You can see why Max is so good. He has such a deep understanding of how the car works and behaves. Like adjusting downforce on the run. He is a great benefit to F1.

Man I want to agree with you so bad, but the undeniable fact is that electric and battery tech will one day make ICE obsolete in racing. I mean it’s just the physics of how quickly and efficiently energy is delivered into the wheels. I wish it wasn’t so, but electric cars are already kicking ass in the exotic market, and they’re getting better every year.

@@jc-drive Not only the tyres, but the ludicrous amount of jet fuel needed to carry all these teams, personnel and equipment from one side of the world every week. You could have them run on pure electric cars for 100 years and still not equate the amount of pollution caused by the transport in one year. We have three US GP's this year, plus Canada and Mexico, and none of them happen back to back. Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are still on opposite ends of the calendar. We go to Europe for a race, back to America, straight to Asia, only to come back to Europe again, instead of clearing them all in blocks. But yeah, the car's engine is the problem. Ridiculous.
It should all about racing first and foremost. Any “green” b.s. or zero carbon crap should be a secondary consideration. Zero carbon! Imagine if every single car on the planet were energizer….sorry, battery powered, we will be building coal fired plants left right and centre so everyone could plug in at night. I would have preffered they kept the pre 22 regs, and focus on making the v8 etc engines compartible with the new bio fuels. We could have gotten teams to have converged by now as of 2023 and a few years down the line environmental friendly engines and lighter loude cars. Now we have another dominance and we'll most definitely have one in 26. And the cycle will continue.
I don't see clearly, how moving a car with higher mass around can - even just theoretically - be more energy-efficient than a smaller, lighter car. It still has to use energy to move a higher mass body.
I love how making f1 net zero is near impossible with all the logistics involved but instead of solving the transportation of cars, drivers, teams etc, F1 focuses on ruining the engines
Listen to the guy that understand, and hopefully they will look at them really closely. I think the cars are in quite a good spot right now, you can race them and they aren't more than 2-3 sec slower than 2020 peak cars. I really think if anything the cars should be reduced in weight, but keep the safety standards as they are or increase them. You could even drop the power a bit but with the ground effect cars I'm not so sure if you can do that.
Today regulations is really already have good ratio of electric and engine job, the only thing missing is smaller car and maybe the MGU H for cheaper development

He is right, even as a Mercedes fan I don’t agree with the way it’s going even tho it looks like it’s going to benefit them! F1’s total percentage of emissions is so minimal, I really think there is no need to go that way! We want exciting racing, smaller lighter cars with more combustion power and less electrical power. IMO it would be epic if they have everyone the same floor, make it something they cannot change, just add things everywhere else, that would even the playing field.
One thing about the weight is (in my opinion) what contributed to these tank like cars. Back in the day one tiny accident everything smashes to pieces. I just want the V8 sound back.
So, if F1 wants to shift to a competitive focus rather than a pure engineering focus, they need to look to IndyCar which has a much better alternative to DRS (push to pass for a boost with a limited number of use seconds) and no power steering, making the skill of the driver far more important than just the technical capability of the car. There’s also something to be said for ovals being genuinely much more competitive overall, but I’d admit that would not be the F1 thing to do. If, on the other hand, F1 wants to continue being about pure engineering, then it should stop being such a tight ass about regulations (besides safety regulations). The golden era of F1, objectively, was when visionaries like Colin Chapman, Bruce McLaren and Dan Gurney (and their successors) designing countless phenomenal racecars that technically followed regulations, but approached finding speed in very different ways. The modern standard of every minuscule detail being so strict is essentially down to most teams being butthurt that Chapman was too inventive, too smart.

...and that Chapman made the safety provisions of existing tracks utterly inadequate. This is the fundamental problem with no limits technical competition - it very quickly makes the whole enterprise uneconomic by either killing off your drivers or requiring new tracks.
Completely agree with max who wants to see a slowe race car cause that's why most people love f1 cause of the speed and excitement. If they wanted to make the cars more eco friendly they should start by making the cars smaller. Than switching to the fuel that Sébastien vettel discovered that is a hunded percent carbon free. You wouldn't have to switch to slower engines and possibly do away with the hybrid system they are currently using witch costs to much and isn't always reliable and possibly save a few mill in the process.
Not a max fan, though hes undoubtedly a great driver. I do agree however, we are getting too far away from the essense of what makes a great racing car, lightness, agility and purity of performance. These cars should require exquisite steering input and throttle control to be at their fastest, not ers management and mind bending which grips, until it very abruptly doesn't.
Cars are too reliable too. When they become 50% electric will they still be using the overtake bs. I think drs should be enough personally. But if nothing else, FFS let's have more than one guy with a chance to win the title, even if it's teammate's

To be fair rad bull has the best aero team, so it’s clear they want to stay on an aero based competition rather than an engine based. But he absolutely has a point that the cars should weight less and should be smaller.
F1 is merely a vehicle for net zero. That means that the sport is ultimately limited by the net zero goals. Therefore all regulation decisions pursue what is best to reach net zero, no matter the cost to f1. So if it f1 cannot exist in a net zero capacity it will mean there will not be a f1.

F1 is one of the more blatant examples but this shift already applies to every aspect of western society to reach the 2030 agenda, followed to the extreme endpoints in 2050. Regardless of whether people want this, it is essentially illegal for f1 or whatever other institution to oppose this.
Get rid of the cars and have all of the drivers run for the race. That's net zero for you. In reality there is no such thing as net zero; you will always be making inefficiencies, useless byproducts, and the like when creating technology.

I mostly agree with but with the drag point… The 2022 regulation was made to reduce dirty air and as a side effect reduce drag. Knowing that, having more drag is not better, since cars can’t follow on turns. Otherwise, ai really don’t see the point of automated aerodynamic elements, since it’s not something everyone’s car will go towards, it doesn’t really add anything to the sport and it will probably create new big differences between cars.
Not sure that massive generalisation is fair. Being completely fair, the aero has caused more problems than the engines have! A larger reliance on mechanical grip would be a shift in the right direction imo.

Governments love to use the "it's to protect the children" excuse when passing legislation that restricts the populace, and the "it's to save the environment" excuse is no different. In this case, they probably saw an opportunity to save money on power bills by forgoing the tire warmers, hire ups couldn't care less if it hurts the racing.

Haven’t read all the proposed changes, but on the face of it I’d agree with Verstappen here. I’d also get rid of the DRS. How many times have I heard a commentator say “….an easy pass under DRS”. It’s just an artificial tool to supposedly spice up the racing, but for me it does the opposite.
Higher weight requires more power which requires more emissions. Reducing size and weight need to be the goals 2026, make the cars smaller and it will help reduce emissions drastically.
The emissions of the cars are completely irrelevant. They are less than 1% of the total emissions of F1 as a whole - with all the planes, ships and trucks moving the gear around, and without even considering the emissions incurred by spectators and fans travelling to and from races. They should just make a 700 hp N/A V8 with 300 hp of EV juice and be done with it.
I recommend listening to the drivers. No fan wants to see F1 go all electric and get very boring. F1 should be light over powered cars with incredible downforce piloted by the best drivers from the around the world.
imo they should just keep the current regulation for like 20 years. for example imagine if they kept the 2017-2021 regulations for longer. at first mercedes are dominating but then after a few years red bull catch up and make it exciting. if they keep that regulation until now maybe mclaren and ferrari have caught up too. with the current regulation red bull are dominating but maybe in 5 years mercedes, ferrari, and aston are all caught up. but if you keep overhauling the regs, this will never happen
The sport needs to change constantly because at the end of the day it is all about innovation and engineering. In 2021 season the teams have pretty much extracted 95-99% of what’s possible with their respective concepts within those 5 years. If you kept the regs the same for 20 years, after a couple of seasons every team would have simply copied the quickest car. The next 13 years nothing would change because they would have exploited the concept to its maximum. No innovation, no engineering, there wouldn’t really be a point in having a constructors championship.
@@julianz7450 the sport is about entertainment, and innovation and engineering is an aspect of that but not everything. i don’t get why you think every car being able to fight at the front would be a bad thing. do you enjoy knowing that the same driver is going to win every race? or would you like to watch a series where every driver has a shot at winning and there’s actual competition? because i and every other fan would prefer the latter. and there absolutely would be a need for a constructors championship and it would be way more entertaining than it is now if every car was competitive. it would be more about performing and maximizing every race weekend rather than being limited by your car. all i’m saying is if they keep changing the regs every 5 years, it’s always 1 team that gets it right. it can never be more than 1 for some reason, always just 1. and every other team plays catch up and there’s no competition and f1 becomes the best thing to watch to help you fall asleep. and then just as other teams catch up to the fastest team and f1 becomes exciting, they change the regs and we are back at square 1. it’s so frustrating.

Yes, it is a business still, so the entertainment aspect is important, but it is not what is at the core of f1. You don't seem to understand that formula 1 is named the pinnacle of motorsport not because of the drivers that are on the grid, nor the revenue it generates, or even the racing itself. You have plenty other categories with great racing action where the cars are more or less equal (f2, indy, wec, gte, dtm, nascar...) but f1 is so special because it gathers the best, most innovative engineers in the world to push the cars to their technological limit and beyond. It is really about pushing the envelope and developing new technologies which can then be applied in regular people's lives. Manufacturers are interested in f1 because it is a great opportunity for them to develop the tech they can then implement in their regular road cars. Honda for example: the only reason they came back to f1 was that the hybrid regulations were in line with the direction they were planning to take on with their road cars. So yeah, I still say that f1 is special because of its engineering aspect, not racing itself. Don't be so haste in saying "you and every other f1 fan" - speak for yourself mate. You are clearly a racing fan, so why don't try other series if you're frustrated with lack of on track battles and a single team dominating the grid? You want to see the best action packed spectacle and pure racing where it's all about the drivers? Go watch any one of the other categories I mentioned.

They should simplify the cars instead of making them even more complex. The sport needs lighter, smaller and generally more nimble cars. Definitely no gimmicks like active aero that only weigh the car down, or more reliance on the MGU-K, which would require bigger and heavier batteries. Maybe even scrap the MGU-K altogether to save weight. The current ICE's are fine in my opinion since they are very powerful and durable. They could also consider bringing back refuelling which brings down the average weight of the car during a race. It has gone wrong in the past but if F1 develops and enforces a safe design that shouldn't be an issue. The only issue I can think of is safety since the safety standards of today are higher than 20 years ago, and safer cars tend to be heavier, but I'm sure there is a compromise to be made.
@@1BadPrixracing fans recognise that numbers don't define a driver. There are too many factors in motorsport out of the drivers control to be able to just read a number and determine how good he is. Max, at his peak, I think Max is literally the best driver to race in F1, I'm not saying this as some starstruck fan who declares this like it's some omen. I say it as someone who thinks the likes of Alonso, Schumacher, Hamilton, Senna's talent comes up 1% short. Max to me is the most talented driver of all time and I am loving seeing him cross the line 1st every race, we are witnessing a legend in the present and I am so grateful.

I agree. The first race I watched (coincidentally) is when Max got his first win. I'm Dutch, I support Verstappen (for what he does as a sportsman anyway), I've been there through all of those dominant Mercedes years, and yet, this is the most boring F1 has been to me since the day I started watching. He's winning every race now, and yet I'm watching fewer races now than I did when Mercedes won every race. I watched nearly every race back then, and this season I've watched less than half.

I have watched* F1 since 1979. 1986 to 1991 was the peak then it started to go down hill and has continued to do so almost every single one of the 32 years since - it's now unwatchable (hence my qualifying asterisk at word 3) for those of us blessed to see the peak years around 35 years ago. Looks like they are hell bent on even further continuing the 30+ year process of ruining F1 as badly as humanly possible.

2026: Heavier cars, 300 LESS horsepower. Sadly this might be another sport I stop watching when 2026 comes.
Max gave 5 arguments:
1. The combination of new rules (in its current unfinalised form) give such weird results like having to downshift at the end of the long straights
2. ICE will play more role than aerodynamics, which can lead to expensive "horse power wars"
3. Some of the aerodynamic elements will be automated outside of driver's control, which makes it weirder for the driver and F1. Driver should be in control, not the system
4. Drag will be reduced, which will result in more Albon-trains™, where either cars won't be able to pass, or F1 will have to include a more powerful DRS-system
5. Weight of the cars will be increased again
And some people focus on #2, saying he only says these, 'cause he is afraid, that Red Bull won't be able to produce a good enough engine. For #2, yes, maybe you can say that. But taking that out of the context of full 100 seconds long answer is ridiculous.
And a driver like Max, unlike Horner, for sure can easily go and find another team with a better engine in 2028+, if he wants to. So, potential engine problems of Red Bull is not the deciding factor for him in his remarks

He has by far the most knowledge of that. In his karting years he build all the karts he drove together with his father. Also the engines. All the other guys had mechanics, catering, cleaning personnel. Not Max. Just him, his father, a big van and a kart. The drove all over Europe together. They did everything together. Unbelievable. That is what Newey said: Max is by far the most technical driver of the grid and a blessing to work with. Jos had that too. Very technical guy.

Thats one of the reasons they choose Verstappen above Ricciardo back in the days. Because Ric doesnt have that knowledge. Most of the drivers can explain what they feel in the car but not wich changes they want to fix the problem. Drivers like Verstappen knows exactly what he need. To fix that is the team their job

Not a massive Max fan but can of course appreciate and respect his massive talent. He is absolutely correct here. These cars look like tug boats compared to anything pre 2014. I started watching F1 in the Schumacher/Hakkinen era and looking back at my favourite era of cars from say 2003-2008, the cars have gradually got bigger and heavier, and mostly slower (with the exception of the most dominant years of red bull and then Mercedes) and now the FIA want to add even more weight and less horsepower?
I've followed f1 for a long time and the last couple seasons debated cancelling my subscription due to the way the sport is going. If 2026 regs go ahead, that will be it for me along with a huge percentage of fans, and by the sounds of it, drivers. Not heard a single drive say anything positive about these regs.
Imagine giving someone like Adrian Newey the freedom to just go and build a fast car. Taking safety into consideration so they're not literally 'too fast' but please scrap the sustainability side of things, that's what formula E is for. F1 has always been about the pinnacle of speed and engineering. With the odd exception, every season the cars just look slower, heavier and stiffer

Some lap records still stand from 2003-2006 (for example barichello Monza, Schumacher at Albert park etc) were set nearly 20 years ago. With the technology available in 2023, those lap records really shouldn't be still standing. And none of them are being set this year - a lot of them are Mercedes and red bull from the last decade. Yup and because the engine power and electric power are going to be 50 50 in 2026 means that during the race they will race with only 500 to 600 hp because it is impossible to recharge the battery every lap. If this goes through it would be a huge downgrade and the fun and speed of f1 will be gone

For me these current regs have spoilt the cars. Racing is maybe abit better but the cars are way too big and look so stiff.
Sadly that's only going to get worse. I think the mindset of imroving racing of these regs and actions (groundeffect) associated with it are excellent, but you are completely right these cars look like trucks going around a track
Yeah 22 was better for racing, but team are now going for more outwash which is now making it harder to follow cars again.
Just look at the floor, 75% of the air is flow outwards to protect the rear tire.

@@presleyshand4156I do get your point, but I must say that the floor needs most of the air to leave early for the ground effect to work, the higher pressure air leaving means there's lower pressure underneath, and so their is lower pressure underneath than above the floor, sucking the floor to the ground, creating downforce

So they said they were going to try and reduce weight... it's going up instead. They said they might try to ditch DRS (possible thanks to lighter cars and less dirty air) now instead they will need an even more powerful DRS system. I hate everything about this.
When I first looked at the 2026 regulations, my original thought was that they would be very similar to the power and weight of the LMP1 hybrid cars of 2015. ~550hp from the ICE, ~400hp from batteries, 850kg? that's almost the same numbers as a Porsche 919 except the F1 car's weight includes the driver already. WEC racing was probably at an all-time peak with Porsche, Audi, and Toyota duking it out for 24 hours straight, passing each other at different parts of the race. But when I really think about it, the magic was because Porsche, Audi, and Toyota all had different engines, different cylinders, different battery sizes, heck Audi used diesel. I'm not sure it would be anywhere as entertaining if all the cars had the same powertrains, and constantly had to conserve fuel and batteries non-stop.
Each time they take a step forward towards achieving net zero, they inadvertently encounter other consequences that undermine their progress.
That’s the case with this whole woke problem; the production of wind mills produce huge pollution, popularity in electric cars give a rise in the production of batteries and to deliver on that demand, people resort to child labor in bad circumstances. Forbidding paddock girls actually takes away their *own* choice and I guess right to be one. Plus, many more examples.

First off, windmills at the end of the line remove lots of pollution even though of course production (like producing pretty much anything) has its own carbon emission. Lithium mining might have very severe consequences in some of the world, but the solution is not to stop the development and consumption of electronic cars, but finding a sustainable way to mine lithium that does as little as possible damage to the environment. And allowing paddock girls to choose to be there of their own accord would be okay, if there was also that equal opportunity for men to model amongst the cars, which of course wouldn't happen. In addition to that, there are more than enough reasons why this dehumanized form of modelling contributes to gender inequality and misogyny, irrespective of whether or not the people that are the subject of this would like display themselves that way or not.

The basic guideline should be to lower the car weight (not just racing cars!!) as weight leads to additional safety measures which adds more weight and also requires more bhp… usually also linked to heavier engine/ battery packs…

You can see why Max is so good. He has such a deep understanding of how the car works and behaves. Like adjusting downforce on the run. He is a great benefit to F1.

Man I want to agree with you so bad, but the undeniable fact is that electric and battery tech will one day make ICE obsolete in racing. I mean it’s just the physics of how quickly and efficiently energy is delivered into the wheels. @@jc-drive Not only the tyres, but the ludicrous amount of jet fuel needed to carry all these teams, personnel and equipment from one side of the world every week. You could have them run on pure electric cars for 100 years and still not equate the amount of pollution caused by the transport in one year. We have three US GP's this year, plus Canada and Mexico, and none of them happen back to back. Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are still on opposite ends of the calendar. We go to Europe for a race, back to America, straight to Asia, only to come back to Europe again, instead of clearing them all in blocks. But yeah, the car's engine is the problem. Ridiculous.
It should all about racing first and foremost. Any “green” b.s. or zero carbon crap should be a secondary consideration. Zero carbon! Imagine if every single car on the planet were energizer….sorry, battery powered, we will be building coal fired plants left right and centre so everyone could plug in at night. I would have preffered they kept the pre 22 regs, and focus on making the v8 etc engines compartible with the new bio fuels. We could have gotten teams to have converged by now as of 2023 and a few years down the line environmental friendly engines and lighter loude cars. Now we have another dominance and we'll most definitely have one in 26. And the cycle will continue.

I don't see clearly, how moving a car with higher mass around can - even just theoretically - be more energy-efficient than a smaller, lighter car. It still has to use energy to move a higher mass body.

Listen to the guy that understand, and hopefully they will look at them really closely. I think the cars are in quite a good spot right now, you can race them and they aren't more than 2-3 sec slower than 2020 peak cars. I really think if anything the cars should be reduced in weight, but keep the safety standards as they are or increase them. You could even drop the power a bit but with the ground effect cars I'm not so sure if you can do that.
Today regulations is really already have good ratio of electric and engine job, the only thing missing is smaller car and maybe the MGU H for cheaper development

He is right, even as a Mercedes fan I don’t agree with the way it’s going even tho it looks like it’s going to benefit them! F1’s total percentage of emissions is so minimal, I really think there is no need to go that way! We want exciting racing, smaller lighter cars with more combustion power and less electrical power. IMO it would be epic if they have everyone the same floor, make it something they cannot change, just add things everywhere else, that would even the playing field.
One thing about the weight is (in my opinion) what contributed to these tank like cars. Back in the day one tiny accident everything smashes to pieces.

So, if F1 wants to shift to a competitive focus rather than a pure engineering focus, they need to look to IndyCar which has a much better alternative to DRS (push to pass for a boost with a limited number of use seconds) and no power steering, making the skill of the driver far more important than just the technical capability of the car. There’s also something to be said for ovals being genuinely much more competitive overall, but I’d admit that would not be the F1 thing to do.
If, on the other hand, F1 wants to continue being about pure engineering, then it should stop being such a tight ass about regulations (besides safety regulations). The golden era of F1, objectively, was when visionaries like Colin Chapman, Bruce McLaren and Dan Gurney (and their successors) designing countless phenomenal racecars that technically followed regulations, but approached finding speed in very different ways. The modern standard of every minuscule detail being so strict is essentially down to most teams being butthurt that Chapman was too inventive, too smart.

...and that Chapman made the safety provisions of existing tracks utterly inadequate. This is the fundamental problem with no limits technical competition - it very quickly makes the whole enterprise uneconomic by either killing off your drivers or requiring new tracks.

Completely agree with max who wants to see a slowe race car cause that's why most people love f1 cause of the speed and excitement. If they wanted to make the cars more eco friendly they should start by making the cars smaller. Than switching to the fuel that Sébastien vettel discovered that is a hunded percent carbon free. You wouldn't have to switch to slower engines and possibly do away with the hybrid system they are currently using witch costs to much and isn't always reliable and possibly save a few mill in the process.
Who wants to see Max win everything F1 is lost.

These cars should require exquisite steering input and throttle control to be at their fastest, not ers management and mind bending which grips, until it very abruptly doesn't.

To be fair rad bull has the best aero team, so it’s clear they want to stay on an aero based competition rather than an engine based. But he absolutely has a point that the cars should weight less and should be smaller.
F1 is merely a vehicle for net zero.
That means that the sport is ultimately limited by the net zero goals.
Therefore all regulation decisions pursue what is best to reach net zero, no matter the cost to f1.
So if it f1 cannot exist in a net zero capacity it will mean there will not be a f1.

The 2022 regulation was made to reduce dirty air and as a side effect reduce drag. Knowing that, having more drag is not better, since cars can’t follow on turns.
Otherwise, ai really don’t see the point of automated aerodynamic elements, since it’s not something everyone’s car will go towards, it doesn’t really add anything to the sport and it will probably create new big differences between cars.
F1 was already ruined 10 years ago when they decided to use vacuum cleaners as engines.
Not sure that massive generalisation is fair. Being completely fair, the aero has caused more problems than the engines have! A larger reliance on mechanical grip would be a shift in the right direction imo.

Governments love to use the "it's to protect the children" excuse when passing legislation that restricts the populace, and the "it's to save the environment" excuse is no different. It's not true at all and the real intentions are only known to the one making the excuse. In this case, they probably saw an opportunity to save money on power bills by forgoing the tire warmers, hire ups couldn't care less if it hurts the racing.

The emissions of the cars are completely irrelevant. They are less than 1% of the total emissions of F1 as a whole - with all the planes, ships and trucks moving the gear around, and without even considering the emissions incurred by spectators and fans travelling to and from races.
They should just make a 700 hp N/A V8 with 300 hp of EV juice and be done with it.

imo they should just keep the current regulation for like 20 years. for example imagine if they kept the 2017-2021 regulations for longer. at first mercedes are dominating but then after a few years red bull catch up and make it exciting. if they keep that regulation until now maybe mclaren and ferrari have caught up too. with the current regulation red bull are dominating but maybe in 5 years mercedes, ferrari, and aston are all caught up. but if you keep overhauling the regs, this will never happen
The sport needs to change constantly because at the end of the day it is all about innovation and engineering. In 2021 season the teams have pretty much extracted 95-99% of what’s possible with their respective concepts within those 5 years. If you kept the regs the same for 20 years, after a couple of seasons every team would have simply copied the quickest car. The next 13 years nothing would change because they would have exploited the concept to its maximum. No innovation, no engineering, there wouldn’t really be a point in having a constructors championship.
@@julianz7450 the sport is about entertainment, and innovation and engineering is an aspect of that but not everything. i don’t get why you think every car being able to fight at the front would be a bad thing. do you enjoy knowing that the same driver is going to win every race? or would you like to watch a series where every driver has a shot at winning and there’s actual competition? because i and every other fan would prefer the latter. and there absolutely would be a need for a constructors championship and it would be way more entertaining than it is now if every car was competitive. it would be more about performing and maximizing every race weekend rather than being limited by your car. all i’m saying is if they keep changing the regs every 5 years, it’s always 1 team that gets it right. it can never be more than 1 for some reason, always just 1. and every other team plays catch up and there’s no competition and f1 becomes the best thing to watch to help you fall asleep. and then just as other teams catch up to the fastest team and f1 becomes exciting, they change the regs and we are back at square 1. it’s so frustrating.

Yes, it is a business still, so the entertainment aspect is important, but it is not what is at the core of f1. You don't seem to understand that formula 1 is named the pinnacle of motorsport not because of the drivers that are on the grid, nor the revenue it generates, or even the racing itself. You have plenty other categories with great racing action where the cars are more or less equal (f2, indy, wec, gte, dtm, nascar...) but f1 is so special because it gathers the best, most innovative engineers in the world to push the cars to their technological limit and beyond. It is really about pushing the envelope and developing new technologies which can then be applied in regular people's lives. Manufacturers are interested in f1 because it is a great opportunity for them to develop the tech they can then implement in their regular road cars. Honda for example: the only reason they came back to f1 was that the hybrid regulations were in line with the direction they were planning to take on with their road cars. So yeah, I still say that f1 is special because of its engineering aspect, not racing itself. Don't be so haste in saying "you and every other f1 fan" - speak for yourself mate. You are clearly a racing fan, so why don't try other series if you're frustrated with lack of on track battles and a single team dominating the grid? You want to see the best action packed spectacle and pure racing where it's all about the drivers? Go watch any one of the other categories I mentioned.

Lightweight higher revving V10s. Smaller more nimble cars. More crashes. That’s what public wants.
They should simplify the cars instead of making them even more complex. The sport needs lighter, smaller and generally more nimble cars. Definitely no gimmicks like active aero that only weigh the car down, or more reliance on the MGU-K, which would require bigger and heavier batteries. Maybe even scrap the MGU-K altogether to save weight. The current ICE's are fine in my opinion since they are very powerful and durable.
They could also consider bringing back refuelling which brings down the average weight of the car during a race. It has gone wrong in the past but if F1 develops and enforces a safe design that shouldn't be an issue.
The only issue I can think of is safety since the safety standards of today are higher than 20 years ago, and safer cars tend to be heavier, but I'm sure there is a compromise to be made.

@@1BadPrixracing fans recognise that numbers don't define a driver. There are too many factors in motorsport out of the drivers control to be able to just read a number and determine how good he is. Max, at his peak, I think Max is literally the best driver to race in F1, I'm not saying this as some starstruck fan who declares this like it's some omen. I say it as someone who thinks the likes of Alonso, Schumacher, Hamilton, Senna's talent comes up 1% short. Max to me is the most talented driver of all time and I am loving seeing him cross the line 1st every race, we are witnessing a legend in the present and I am so grateful.

I think they should leave the cars largely how they are except reduce the minimum weight by a significant amount. Then watch the development race to make weight. Maybe that could push battery technology forward in a useful way because right now they are too heavy and big.

Red Bull will once again build the best car no matter what, even if the regulations are flawed. Merc and Ferrari should find no pleasure in Max's statements. They should be even more scared

Who have one of the biggest electric production series in Europe, who were in Formula E do you really think Mercedes is going to mess up the engine. Mercedes might struggle with aerodynamics at the moment but the new regulation focuses much more on power output. And RedBull is creating their first engine that could go horribly wrong especially in cooperation with Ford. Who aren’t know for their reliability

If you forget who your core base is and go in another direction don’t be surprised when people don’t have an interest in the brand anymore. the only decent thing is the battery usage. making it more like NOS from F&F but the weight and the combination of less drag is just strange how it makes sense to the FIA. at this point overtakes can only be done on short burst straights not on corners and possibly rare on high or mid speed corners after a decent straight.
