Phew! It was a LOOONG time since I made a video about something on British TV, but this video's informations is really worth the effort (considering most videos similar to this usually have 15 minutes of duration)! A few months ago (as of the time the video was published anyways), exactly on 1st September 2021, the UK's first satellite TV channel shut down for the list time. This channel would later become one of the first of the region, to have many sister channels, to become one of the most successful channels IN THE WORLD and to be kind of similar to cable TV in The Americas. Sky One will always be remembered for beginning this TV genre. I also added the "predecessor" of the channel, Satellite Television (or Super Station Europe if you prefer), and the replacement channels of Sky One, Sky Showcase and Sky Max.
AGE RATING: My videos are classified for everyone, but not necessarily created for children. Because of this, the COPPA and other laws shouldn't classify this video as such.

When I arrived with my parents (UN employees at the time) from the Soviet Union to Switzerland, Geneva in 1987, there was a cable operator there, called 022 TeleGenève, and they had this mysterious "SKY Channel"(French Canal+ was more interesting, but it was more of something "next door", so less appealing). My father had bought the subscription, and ... nothing. Dull. They did not air neither a single Depeche Mode nor a Pet Shop Boys concert. I was really disappointed. Otherwise, it was magic per se. "La chaine, qui vient du ciel", like it was advertised in local tv newspapers at the time. 37 years ago, oh my god. Like yesterday. May there be peace.

I agree. While most of the programming is the same, Sky One just hits different. Sky Showcase and Sky Max just aren’t the same.
It's stupid
If I had a tv channel that would show animations from CZcams and other companies,I would also leave some room for sky one and it's idents (and I mean All of it's idents)as well as it's programming.
How did people in 1982 get this Satellite Television channel? Were receivers really sold that long ago?
Back then it was virtually impossible to receive it in the UK (you needed a huge dish to receive the low power signal) and was generally available via cable in some other European countries. UK availability only became a thing later in the 80s.
