Jose is so accurate in his assessment. With rise of social media, the distinction between a professional player & celebrity is getting blurred. The value that young players have to now put on their digital image is immense. Building an image for the followers, has almost become a norm for most footballers now. The same is true for a lot of other professional athletes. What it does is, it creates an atmosphere where the younger generation of fans don't adequately appreciate the players who don't have a prominent social media presence but are real leaders in the dressing room or training ground. A lot of what happens behind the screen determines how a team performs, how the players bond & how willing they are to walk through a wall for their manager & teammates. These are virtues which define professional sports, but are now under appreciated by the new generation of supporters. What's happening is an inevitable evolution but i hope the core values of the sport aren't lost in this transition.
