  • I always thought I'll enjoy riding a 125cc motorcycle after not riding one for years. My theory was that you enjoy riding 125cc motorcycle if that's all you know, then you start to hate it whilst learning to ride larger bikes. I got so used to riding a 600cc Suzuki Bandit & was surprised when I jumped on a ybr 125.

For someone stuck on a 125 (hopefully for not much longer) I do want to get off but mainly as I want to be able to overtake a tractor when I'm stuck on a country lane, not get sworn at by half of Derbyshire for holding up traffic, escape the cars and vans trying to run me over, use motorways, take passengers, not loose 30-50 of my speed going uphill, be able to have a trailer or sidecar and be able to carry some weight in my top box without having it massively impact the bike but most importantly so I can go abroad!! It's not just the limited power but all of the other things. I will miss 20quid road tax, 70 quid insurance and 140mpg! Also the L plate that a lot of people back off and give me space and time to ride! I've not ridden many big bikes but my 125 is super comfortable, light and easy to ride! Its brilliant off road but it's a love hate relationship - don't we all have that whatever the bike? Except the bullet, perfect bike 🤣😁🤩🤬😇😇😇😇😜

Ah the YBR was my first geared bike. Probably the most boring 125 ever but it's good for beginners and it was quite comfortable.

You sounded nervous riding the YBR, was it because of the amount of power it delivers through the entire rev range!? 😆 I love my little YBR.

See if you can blag a two stroke off someone. RD’s, RG’s, TZR’s and DT’s were a blast back in the day 🤣

Ahh , I like 125s, It does take some getting used to again but its nice not having to worry too much about too much speed i find. GV

this happened to me the ybr does have the weirdest gear / foot position after riding a big bike for tests an practice i cant tell if my ybrs broke or just shoddy

  • @jonh7054

I don't think you gave it much of a chance. You were uptight as soon you got on the YBR and the journey was pretty much a trip around the block from what I could tell. I think you should have given it as a minimum 2 hours of riding time around country lanes and commuting around towns and villages and getting use to riding a 125 again.

L25 👍, I think we bikers are the inbetween lol, I totally agree, but I do still own a 125 as eventually you realise they all offer something different 👍. Great share, stay blessed and safe on two wheels, your biker brother Traveller MIA 🇬🇧

Someone let me have a play on their Honda 125 after a couple of years on 600/750 bikes. Hilarious fun. It felt closer in weight to my bicycle than my motorbikes. Good laugh but I wouldn't swap.

How weird, I love jumping back on lil bikes, they weigh nothing and you can throw them around so well :D Looks like you are changing up way too early, the red line is a target not a thing to not go near! :D

Interesting how the YBR seemed to have you tense, you think it would be mind numbingly easy for you.

125 will always be fun to ride. But I agree going from a bigger bike to a smaller one means you can push a 125 to its limits before you run out of skill

Ahh yes.. the famous " Am I Recording? " triple check!! 😂😂. I started on a 300, and have no interest going back. There is a saying which I'm sure you've heard, it goes ( I'd rather ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow. ). Thing is... How are going to ride a slow bike fast? You can't...it's slow!! Just because you shift every 2 seconds doesn't make it more fun!! Just my humble opinion.

It's not so much the engine and lack of power that scare me in a 125. It's more the overly soft crap suspension/forks and horrible brakes.
