TODAY I WILL TALK ABOUT A TOPIC THAT SHAKESPEARE’S SCHOLARS NEVER DISCUSS: HOW SHAKESPEARE WAS DEVASTATED BY GIORDANO BRUNO’S DEATH AND THE SECRET POEM THAT HE WROTE FOR HIM AFTER HIS TERRIBLE DEATH.
IN 1586, AFTER 3 HAPPY YEARS AT THE FRENCH EMBASSY WITH JOHN FLORIO, GIORDANO BRUNO LEFT ENGLAND. TWO PEOPLE IN LONDON WERE DEEPLY INFLUENCED BY HIS THOUGHT AND THE WORKS THAT HE WROTE IN THOSE YEARS: JOHN FLORIO AND SHAKESPEARE.
FLORIO MENTIONS BRUNO IN SECOND FRUITS, HE TRANSLATED BRUNO’S THOUGHT, AND WHEN HE PUBLISHED MONTAIGNE’S ESSAYS HE OPENED THE LETTER TO THE READER BY COMMEMORATING HIS “OLD FELLOW NOLANO” AND IN THE SECOND EDITION OF HIS DICTIONARY HE MENTIONED ALL GIORDANO BRUNO’S WORKS.
JOHN FLORIO HAD THE LUCK AND CHANCE TO MEET AND LIVE WITH AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN FOR 3 YEARS, AND WAS INEVITABLY INFLUENCED BY HIM. HE NEVER FORGOT BRUNO.
    AND, GUESS WHAT, SHAKESPEARE TOO.
I HAVE SHOWED YOU IN THE PAST VIDEOS THAT SHAKESPEARE WAS DEEPLY INFLUENCED BY GIORDANO BRUNO AND WE FIND BRUNO’S REVOLUTONARY IDEAS IN SHAKESPEARE’S PLAYS, LIKE LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST AND HAMLET.
WHEN GIORDANO BRUNO DIED BURNT AT THE STAKE IN CAMPO DEI FIORI IN ROME, SHAKESPEARE AND FLORIO WERE DEEPLY SHOCKED AND DEVASTATED.
BUT HOW THEY KNEW ABOUT HIS DEATH?
A LETTER CONCERNING BRUNO’S DEATH AND THE DETAILED INFORMATION OF HIS EXECUTION WAS FOUND IN THE OFFICE OF ROBERT DEVEREUX, THE EARL OF ESSEX.
DEVEREUX WAS A CLOSE FRIEND OF JOHN FLORIO. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT FLORIO KNEW ABOUT THE SAD FATE OF HIS DEAR FRIEND THROUGH HIM.
BUT ANOTHER IMPORTANT FACT IS THAT WHEN SHAKESPEARE KNEW ABOUT BRUNO’S TERRIBLE DEATH, HE DECIDED TO WRITE A POEM.
THIS POEM IS THE PHOENIX AND THE TURTLE.

It is such a such a nice thought... he was not forgotten by his friends! That would have meant a great deal to a man who languished and suffered in the jail of the Inquisition for years. It does sound like a poem honoring the mystical philosopher.

Florio knew Bruno very well and so did Shakespeare? There is no historical evidence of this. The more we know about Florio, the more we discover Shakespeare following Florio as his shadow. This Is not a collaboration but and equation.

Really, really. I've been fascinated with him since I was 16-17. I've loved Astronomy early childhood. I had to give a speech in English class in 1968. I chose the subject 'Possibility of Life on other Worlds'. Picture the times.. how sparse information could be.
One of the books I used was written by Carl Sagan. (or the forward was written by him?) One the chapters started with Bruno's quote about the stars being distant suns with cold, invisible planets and the possibility of life on other worlds, and the date he wrote it, in the 1500s! I knew, then, that no should have been able to have guessed that ... or, intuit that fact, in 1500s. I used that quote, in a Catholic HS English class! I got a "C".

Shakespeare is a fictional character. The person who was devastated by the death was John Florio. One has to assume that they were lovers while living together at the French Embassy.

    • @resolutejohnflorio
      @resolutejohnflorio  Pƙed rokem +5

No lovers but they were very close friends, also because Florio was the only one who openly supported Bruno at Oxford. The fact that Bruno cites him in his works is also a proof.

John Florio, Bruno and “Shakespeare” were “REALLY” all just aliases of the Bard. He had a massive number of aliases and if you watch my playlist”Bard Videos” (in sequence), you will see that. He was “close” to all his aliases!
