A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ECOVILLAGER

Have you ever heard of ecovillages? Well, this is about time!
Here is the definition offered by Robert Gilman, a pioneer in the sustainability movement, in 1991 :
"An ecovillage is a human-scale full-featured settlement in which human activities are harmlessly integrated into the natural world in a way that is supportive of healthy human development, and can be successfully continued into the indefinite future."
In other words, it's an intentional, traditional or urban community that is consciously designed through locally owned, participatory processes in all 5 dimensions of sustainability (social, culture, ecology, economy and whole systems design) to regenerate their social and natural environments.
Ecovillages are living laboratories pioneering beautiful alternatives and innovative solutions. They are rural or urban settlements with vibrant social structures, vastly diverse, yet united in their actions towards low-impact, high-quality lifestyles.
O.U.R. Ecovillage is located on an extraordinary 25 acres near Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, Canada. O.U.R. ECOVILLAGE began operations in 1999 with a vision to create a model demonstration sustainable village community rooted in social, ecological, and economic well being. O.U.R. Ecovillage is the host site for O.U.R Community Association, a registered nonprofit society dedicated to the promotion of sustainable community living. People from all walks of life and all ages are able to benefit from educational programs facilitated within O.U.R developing site.
This short film was produced by Neila Toofuny and Xavier Harel, two young volunteers who wanted to spread the word to inspire their own generation to live a better sustainable life.
