I'm glad he liked Low's latest album this time rather than giving a Y U NO REVIEW. It has the same things that made up the last album that he wasn't crazy about, but taken to the next level.
Did he even review the last one?

I’ll be honest: I’d absolutely love to watch you interview Alan and Mimi. They’re simply the most thoughtful and easygoing musicians around, and it would be a pleasure to hear you in conversation about their work with BJ Burton - who helped make how i’m feeling now, which might be a good comparison as a pandemic era noise record - would be truly fascinating!

This album is so catchy, so tastefully executed, the distortion is so crisp and well defined… I have found a new favorite band :)
You should listen to the album "I Could Live In Hope" from them. It's not industrial as "HEY WHAT" But more slowcore. However, that album is known to be essential in their discog. Try it out. :)

No mention of BJ Burton’s work on this album… He’s the mastermind behind this album, being the producer, mix- and mastering engineer. And the leader of pushing the envelope of distortion.
This album has a whole new meaning now that Mimi's gone... The fact that she knew this was probably going to be their final record, you can see it in her lyrics, she knew she didn't have much time left. Jesus.
Yeah. This gives 'Blackstar' a run for its money for most beautiful, soul-crushing sound off.
This album somehow manages to comfort my soul while also destroying my eardrums. If that's not a great musical achievement, i dont know what is
Hope we get an I Could Live In Hope classic review soon
Just listened to this album this week having never heard a Low song before. I understand most of their albums are not like this, but this album is so fucking good! You didn't mention anything about Hey, my favourite of this album! Gives me the chills everytime
"Things We Lost in the Fire" has been one of my favorite albums for years now and I never thought they would match its quality. Glad to be proven wrong.
SAME!!!
A little over two years after this album dropped, it has only cemented its status in my mind as one of the most intensely powerful sonic experiences that is equally adept at mining the depths of beauty & cohesion & life & joy as it does destruction & dissonance & death & pain.....of any music ever recorded. Its both extraordinarily challenging and cathartic to experience, exploring the entire spectrum of human emotion.
I absolutely loved this album and I'm not even a big fan of experimental rock
I give this a light 9
I'm so happy Low took these risks. One of the few recent "Kid A" type turns that worked out perfectly and paid off. For me though, Double Negative is their Kid A while Hey What is their Amnesiac, if that makes sense, since I think DN is the better of the two.
Spot on about the Kid A and Amnesiac comparisons.
I love both albums, and think they're excellent, but I slightly prefer this one to Double Negative. There's a certain tinge of warmth to this record that has me coming back to it more than Double Negative, which was very harrowing in many spots.
The way you described this I was expecting this to be like a harrowing and challenging listen but like...this album is just delightful. I had a big smile across my face the entire time.
my favorite album of all time. rip Mimi and thanks for everything you've ever done.

The other night I listened to the whole thing in headphones lying down and I was transported to several different dimensions. What a gorgeous, wild ride.
I just did this same thing, made a whole ritual out of it. I’ve been trying to find someone that has had this same experience. Wherever you are, blessings
Same happened to me. It was an existential ride where some serious shit got processed.
Many people talk about how a song can take them back to a certain time and place. What I love about Low, and particularly this album, is their music takes you to a place you've never been. Like you, this album (and many of theirs) are transcendental, taking me places that just don't exist in my regular world. I'm still so heartbroken over Mimi's passing.

If you listen to this and love it, don’t sleep on Double Negative. Anthony had a couple of bad days when he listened to it, it’s extraordinary.
Double Negative is far superior than this record imho
I love how hopeless and moody Double Negative sounds. Prefer it over this new one.
So glad I listened to you.
Love this new one, only dipped my toes in DN. Totally gonna check it out
Completely agree, not sure which one I personally like better yet but they are both exceptional. Really don't understand why he didn't like Double Negative
Just need to say "Just Like Christmas" is a top 5 holiday song for me. Put that on while driving on a snowy night and let it take you away.
it’s actually so good
HELL YES this album rules
So does my channel tbh
Fuck yeah, I've loved Low since I personally saw their 2013 Rock the Garden performance and the legendary "Drone, not Drones" line to end their 27 minute one note set :)
White horses must be in the best songs of the year
Injury Reserve looking like its headed for a strong 9
Probably my fave of the year so far. Great review but why no comment on White Horses? Its like one of their best songs ever
Nice, I'm glad low is getting more attention! I still think you're underrating Double Negative like crazy but it is what it is.
Definitely would love a classic review of I Could Live In Hope.
Can't wait to see when Montero gets an 11
I just saw them in Ferndale MI (Detroit) Live at the Loving Touch.....I was fully captivated and blown away by the whole show. I bought the CD at the show and was fully happy that it also imparted the same beauty, intensity, transcendence and full wall of sound. The opening band Divide and Dissolve imparted a similar wall of sound bass attack. I love this evolution of Low. I dare you to review 100 Gecs!
Anthony this is the IRS please start paying your taxes before we repossess your house
"Now they're doubling down on what Double Negative was doing" so this album is... quadruple negative?
I was looking forward to this and it doesn't disappoint
Finally Low by Flo Rida featuring T-Pain got a review
Is it just me or would sufjan stevens and low make a killer folktronica album?
You FEEL this shit before you even hear it. It's like my ears are hooked on the sensation of the production. Magic.
I've been listening to low for years (huge fan, got in their top 0.01% of listeners last year on spotify wrapped) and this is the first time even engaging with the community, so cool to see so many Low fans and their different opinions
Hard to understand not fully embracing the splendorous Double Negative ,a monumental work. Glad he likes this one more.
You should do an album review of “O my heart”-Mother Mother, its a bit of an oldie but i would love to hear your take on it and the band in general
What’s the vinyl in the bottom with the bandages and stuff?
Nailed it Anthony. It’s a bold & special step for Low. However Please note… -BJ Burton deserves significant credit here for his collaborative Production / mixing contribution ! …No I’m not friends with him but, their path with double negative and now this one has been clearly influenced by the collaboration
I agreed with many of Mr. Fantano's comments in this video. I really like Double Negative, so I was excited to check this one out. It hasn't grabbed me in quite the same way, but maybe I need to give it a couple more listens before passing judgement.
i have the distinct feeling that i'll be critically examining this record for the next thirty years.
I've been a longtime Low fan and I've seen them live for the first time on monday. Can't get that show out of my mind. Was a little nervous if they could replicate the HEY WHAT on stage but they absolutely nailed it. They played the whole album before playing some older songs. HEY WHAT might be my favorite album of theirs and Anthony explains pretty spot on why it's so good. For me personally it might just be a 9 or even 10. I'm just a sucker for good harmonies and those contrasted with those harsh distorted sounds gets to me.
I agree completely but
The songs should be longer
The noise needs to be louder
To me, the sudden stops and letting tension hang is what Low's always been about.
i was waiting for this review to come out, and i'm so glad it's a yellow flannel. i wasn't sure if he would review it considering the yunoreview for DN but this album is exceptional
Come back to AOTY and make a review Now

having been a fan of Low for a couple of decades, i feel that i can kind of guess where they may go next. This record had me believing wholeheartedly that i have no idea what the hell i'm talking about. what a savage, gorgeous, sonic masterpiece this record truly is.
Decades-long fan here as well. Your post is totally on point.
Yay! Low is one of my favourite bands ever and I'm so happy they are still going strong after more than 20 years.
This was unexpected but very welcome! Keep up the good work. Hope you are well, Melon.
I just figured out what this album reminds me of: a lot of the beats, especially the one at the end of white horses, sound a lot like the noises from inside an MRI machine. That adds even more to this album being a transcendental experience, especially as someone who just went through some health complications
Yes this. Especially i can wait, that opening just sent me back to all those MRI scans i got years ago. And to top it was not just the sound but also the tension and "WAIT".
Wtf I had the same thought!!! Wild. I had my first MRI a couple months ago and it was my first thought during white horses outro
RIP Mimi
Seems like 2021 is a good year for both Anthony and his fans. So far, he has given 2 albums a 10, 4 albums a 9, over 32 albums an 8 and over 45 albums a 7. Over the years Antony has put me on to some good shit and believe he has done the same for a lot of you guys out there too, I think music is a way of life and helps billions get through utter fuckery, shit, sour times, hard times, dark times, whatever the fuck you wanna call it, music can help get you through all that shit. So, for all the music Anthony has given me (directly or indirectly) and all the music he'll give in years to come, I sincerely, fucking thank you.
need Montero album review asap
9/10 incredible album that I'm still listening to in 2023.
I think aside from a few of their mid-late 90s albums, Low has had a very very strong catalogue. 'Trust' is an overlooked gem and then in 2005 they took their first big turn with louder indie rock on 'The Great Destroyer'. 'Double Negative' was the next big step, but just before it 'Ones And Sixes' was really starting to show a refined and dynamic production....'Ones and Sixes' is excellent and underrated.
'Double Negative' and 'Hey What' are really close for me, not sure which one I prefer. One of my fav bands overall.
This is cool but I’m waiting with baited breath for the Injury Reserve review. Glad he’s taking his time to let the album really sink in though
What is the best album to start with for this band? I’ve tried listening before but want to give it another shot. Sometimes it takes me multiple times to really start to appreciate an album. Radiohead is one example. Most of their albums that I love now actually took me like 10 listens.
Nice, really wanted you to do this one. Glad we're in sync.
I feel like this album is going to need a General Surgeon's warning for ear destruction.
My Favorite LP of this year and Diabarha - Confession of Lazarous
Just heard Insomniac by green day for the first time in about 10 years and its insanely catchy in my opinion. Would be awesome if we could get a classic album review on that!
This album shocked me with how incredibly captivating it is
Happy for this album getting some recognition here but Low hasn't lost a beat in its discography at all. Ones and Sixes is my favorite by them and its odd to have to call it underrated rather than an undisputed masterpiece. Instead Mark Kozelek gets all the slowcore accolades. Shame.
Probably their best since Things We Lost in the Fire.
Yup, I think the same
This is probably my favourite album so far this year.
This has one of my favorite descriptions ever
Dissapearing is such a beautiful track
For a good while I only knew Low from their debut album, And not even the whole album, Possibly just the song "Lullaby", And while I didn't dislike the music, It wasn't too exciting to me. And then I heard "Days Like These" and immediately fell in love. The gorgeous melodies and harmonies, The vocal delivery, The hauntingly beautiful second half, All of it, It's just so bloody good... I was just listening to the song again, And whole doing so came across the news that Mimi Parker had died, At which point I have basically just been listening to the song and attempting to cry for the past hour.
I was driving at night listening to this, and at one point the droning combined with the night scenery caused me to disassociate, and then the one song snapped me into reality so suddenly I nearly shit myself
do you think maybe the lack of a musical climax on I Can Wait could be intentional, a tie in to the name and motif
i think they left the tension unresolved, exactly on purpose. i think the record may just be an examination of that exact thing- unresolved tension. but only they can say for sure.
Can you review the new Mild High Club album Going Going Gone?
One of my coworkers recommended this album to me and it’s fantastic, but I’m worried about him.
Are you gonna do Montero?
RIP Mimi Parker. Low have wonderful and under appreciated body of work that people will keep discovering for many years.
Are you going to do another debate video similar to the Weezer Pinkerton blue album debate?
Just listened to this one on max volume. I won't be able to hear for a week and I couldn't be happier.

Yo Fantano are you gonna review the new osquinn album? It's frickin amazing
Grip's Album: I Died For This!? review please mr.soprano jr
Hey, I don’t know if you take recommendations, but if so, I very highly recommend Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum by Tally Hall. It’s easily one of the most unique and dynamically impressive albums out there, and not nearly enough people have recognized it. They only have 2 official albums, with some side projects of certain members and demos that are considered spiritual successors. The band technically disbanded in 2011 (They called it a “hiatus”, and some members have said they will eventually release a 3rd album in some shape or form no matter what, but yet have to return.) They have recently gained somewhat of a resurgence, which is about when I discovered them. They have multiple other projects other than music, such as an entire internet show, multiple skits, and many other things. They have a really deep history, and there are tons of cool stories. I hope you take this into consideration, and keep up the good work man.
Would you consider making a Low starter pack or tier list?
That has to be the most positive 8 of all time
I guess HEY WHAT being even more extreme with its noisy minimalism than Double Negative turned out to be a positive.
