One of the best frontmen ever in rock
I put Tommy Shaw right up there at the top with the likes of Steve Perry...
Tommy Shaw, is among the most underrated vocalists in rock history. Superb tone, pitch, and control. I've seen him live with the reformulated Styx, in 2014, and he was still outstanding.
He does have a great voice.
@@LBart218 He's got "Vince Gill little girl's voice" syndrome. His voice only works when paired with a slightly deeper voice in harmony.
I concur!!!!!
Absolutely! Jack Blades & Tommy Shaw are a dream together ❤
Oh yeah 👍
People throw around the term "Super Group". This my friends is one. All extremely talented.
The building up of this song from the beginning to the climax and then the ending, is f**king ingenious! Tommy's and Ted's playing styles really are match made in heaven.

Is that Tommy Shaw or David Spade?
One of the best guitar solos of all time. This group was damn near perfect.
Nugent so underrated it's scandalous.
One of the best 'super groups' ever formed...DAMN YANKEES! I loved Styx from the 70s and Night Ranger from the 80s, they were some of the best rock bands with good songs coming out it seemed every year. When I first bought this CD, I thought their hit song 'High Enough' was going to be the best song on the disc...but when I heard this song, I was stunned...and I had to hit 'repeat' and crank it up really loud...it was so incredible! There are NO grunge albums that are as good as the bands from the 80s.. well, except maybe Alice in Chains! haha

This is so good. Vocals, hook, chorus....
Ted absolutely shreds the solo!!!
what happened to Ted?
@@robhat5042 People started to pay attention to his ravings. The Nuge was and will always be one of the 'foundation' guitarists. Tremendous talent on six strings. It's just that no one paid much heed to whatever happened to pop out of his mouth until after Damn Yankees broke up-if you really check back, you'll find that Nugent has always said basically the same things, just somewhat less exaggerated.
For the record, Tommy Shaw says Nugent is like two different people: a warm, actually caring individual in person who keeps up with stuff like your mother's illnesses, and a raving lunatic (my terms, not Shaw's) when he's put in front of a camera and no one shoves a guitar into his hands instead of putting a mike near his mouth.
@@robhat5042 I just saw him in concert he was amazing
Ted is still killin and grillin mostly at his sunrise safari ranch outside Waco TX, big political analyst .

@@brianjohnson6053 It was Michael Cartellone. He has been in Lynyrd Skynyrd more recently. He rocked in concert along with the rest of them.
Somebody explain to me why this song was not considered the absolute BEST in the rock of its era?! Most people - even those who appreciate "Higher" - have probably never even HEARD the song. Can't believe it wasn't it heavy rotation at radio stations! Slamming drums, the crazed brilliance of Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw's excellence in songwriting, delivery and guitar, the great stage presence of Jack Blades... the sheer raw talent on this stage cannot be matched. Best of all is watching the unabashed joy of the four as they rocked other bands out of the stratosphere AND their joy of playing awesome music together is so clear. SO unlike the vastly airbrushed, commercialized "heavy metal" that was so popular at the time. It's truly a such a higher level, I can't believe they aren't remembered as the exception to slick rock. What I would have given to have been to one of those concerts - the energy is staggering!!
It got to number five on the Mainstream Rock chart, which tracks air play, so it got played plenty. And yes, I love this song, and yes, I saw them along with Bad Company and that was one of the best shows I ever saw.
