I understand everyone’s here because of Lady Gaga’s 911 video but please understand that this film is one of great importance to Armenians. It is a film by Sergei Parajanov about a compilation of poems that were written by Sayat Nova. Sayat Nova was an Armenian musician, poet, singer and ashugh (troubadour). He has hundreds of known compilations in multiple languages that were written almost 300 years ago. I adore Gaga but she knew nothing about this film. Her director for the music video, Tarsem Singh, was inspired by this film. Please know the full history and respect its origins.
People are just saying how they came to find the video/movie. That is not disrespecting its history or origins. If anything, it's respecting the fact that the music video took inspiration from a film that is not a part of modern mainstream culture and is thus giving it the attention that it previously never would have acquired. I'm sure that people understand that the movie is important to some people, as all forms of art are perceived differently to many different people, but please don't assume everyone is here for negative purposes.

This is absolutely beautiful. What I want to know is why there are people shaming those who have come here out of curiosity after watching Lady Gaga's 911 video. I would expect people to be excited about the exposure and sparked interest for new audiences to come by and appreciate where the inspiration came from. Like, what's with the highlandering over obscure cinema? Why is it such a problem that people came here from that video? Honestly, it's a little snobby. You don't have to be a freaking savant to appreciate work like this. Gaga fans aren't stupid.
Historical references are powerful, particularly on how Gaga's command of symbolisms create great artistry and message. Images shown in both the good and the bad; the atmosphere isn't that Alejandro-ish, but I can sense it is a message of speaking out. One thing to consider is how Gaga introduces the scene with someone in black riding a horse, a scene where everything starts peaceful and ends up chaotic. There are scenes that create bafflement, proving that our minds can be hallucinating, sometimes, if not addressed upon. This is an outcry for people who have no guts nor courage to reach out at these trying times. They're scared of being rejected and misinterpreted, which is evident in how Gaga suffered after a serious accident. Imagine going to a film festival with terror lurking inside you. Whatever religious endeavors you practice or social class you are in, mental health is predominant across ages and races. This is why we need faith in conveying message to everyone without preying eyes to judge us in every critical situation. #911MusicVideo
Finally i found someone who had the same thoughts . After seeing lady gaga's 911 which was inspired by this film , i got the Fall vibes , started digging and found out that both were produced by tarsem singh. Obviously tarsem was so fascinated by this Film and i kinda understand why 😀

To be honest, before watching Gaga 911, I knew nothing about Sergei parajanov...Her music video has made me curious about him now.

‘Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders’ (1970) is something you’ll probably love. It’s very surreal with a brilliant aesthetic to it.
