The Deux-Montagnes line is currently the only Montreal commuter train line that is solely electric, and it has been for over 100 years. It began with the Canadian National Railway and their own electric rolling stock, up until the 90s when the new Agence Metropolitain de Transport took over the line with these Bombardier EMUs, the MR90s. In fact, the AMT recently purchased the tracks from the CN for further exploitation of the line, including the ALP-45DP bi-mode locomotives, but that's another story.
What better of a view possible along this line but the front of the train and the cab, especially when operators or security guards are kind enough to let railfans in for pictures in video. So take a ride along this pioneer line of Montreal's commuter rail system, right out from under mountain and north to Pierrefonds. Enjoy the video! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
The only one sadness that comes about the building of the REM is the unfortunate discontinuation of the MR-90. I just love these trains, the looks of it, and the sounds they make! :(
I take it the other ATM lines aren't electrified so the mr90 could run along them?
I already rode the one final time on thursday march break, and already miss them
So true I miss that train I wish it would come back in other lines of they can electried it cuz these are fast trains
I wish the MBTA would take them and use them on the Providence line
You might already know it, but last week, CN sold the Deux-Montagnes subdivision to the AMT, including the tunnel, for 97 millions $.
Yes I heard. So they can put the bi-mode locomotives on that line.
Yesterday night, a train composed of multi-level cars and an ALP-45DP locomotive (Dual-power locomotive) was circulating on the Deux-Montagnes line. I was lucky to see it because it passed around 1:00 AM. This certainly means that they will resume testing with the multi-level cars and the electric engines of the dual-power locomotive very soon and finally putting them on duty on the overcrowded Deux-Montagnes line.
That's great news, since I know they began dynamic tests on the Mascouche line last week. I knew the purchase of the Deux-Montagnes line would speed things up with the multi-levels and dual-mode engines.
I just started a drawing of the 1993 - 1995 Bombardier MR-90 I remember first seeing them in a rail technology book. Handsome railcars
Thanks for sharing. Have not been on that line since 1974 out of Roxborough. Brings back a lot of memories.
Mr1966canuck
Very welcome, glad to have provided the memories. :)
A big thank you for this video. I wanted to ride this, but with a weekend frequency of 1 hour I had to change plans. love the motors and the acceleration of this train.
You're very welcome! I'd like to eventually do more of these, provided the operator allows me to.
I love the MR90s too. Unique among all of the AMT commuter fleet. The sound it makes it awesome and thanks to electricity, it gets very good acceleration.
Man I’m so obsessed with this new intro!
I love when trains pick up speed like that, Straight out of a movie! :D
They accelerate really quickly, as a result of them being fully electric. It's the same principle with electric cars: all torque available from a standing stop.
***** Aww sweet! :D I love old tunnels and electric trains :D
*****
You and me both. :)
***** Whoop! :D
Finally, after what seemed like a eternity, 400-485 are safe at exporail.
I read that this tunnel's short height puts an extra design limitation on all trains running through it
I can't be certain, though dual-level train cars can operate through this tunnel.
Amazing video!
really very nice ben.stay safe
wow.. amazing.. just discover about this.. despite living in Montreal for so many years, never have to get that train line... (and still not have any plan).. but as I look the google map, I was curious about it! Hopefully the tunnel will get some work to make it safe for many years to come.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I am working on the AMT transit and today was the launch of the ''train de l'est'' starting from mascouche all the way down to gare centrale. You should take a ride !!
An interesting ride. Not many passengers (you mentioned it was Saturday) and no trains in the opposite direction, so it must have been early morning.
Was actually in the afternoon if I recall correctly.
Now this is clean, fast, efficient and comfortable transit!
You know it! Peeks my interests, and hopefully yours as well.:)
You piqued my interest.
Should be even better pretty soon!
Nice video! I asked this on another guy's video but i guess it oesn't
hurt to ask here too: Do they still grant requests to view from the front? If so, who should I ask?
Thanks in advance!
How do you get the cab rides? Do you have to ask or will they just let you?
I have a question concerning the use of the camera in darkness. How do you manage to capture all the light in the darkness and avoid to have noise in the picture with a Nikon DSLR? Do you use the camera in auto or manual mode?
I use either programmed auto, which is auto for shutter speed and aperture but manual for all other settings (white balance, ISO, etc...), or any of the other manual modes. When it comes to exposure and lack of noise, you need to focus on having correct aperture and shutter speed, as well as a low ISO. The higher the ISO, the more noise typically. Of course, you can make any additional adjustments in programs like Photoshop Camera Raw or Lightroom, provided you shoot in RAW (or .NEF on Nikon).
Let’s just hope they preserve one set once the trains are retiered
I really hope so. They are unique in Canada after all.
Agreed
theNOVABUSfan Im gonna take a final trip on them this march break as a farewell.
Me replying to my alt: Apperently one unit got preserved
:52 under Cathcart St.
Good observation. :)
What I'm curious about is what's gonna happen to the MR-90 models. Will they be transferred to the other AMT (or Exo) lines? Hopefully. I'd love to still see these around
Unfortunately, since there are no other electrified lines on exo’s network, they will be removed from service and either sold or scrapped.
@@BenLomonRail Aww, that's quite sad. I have quite fond childhood memories of those trains from when I lived in Montreal from 2000-2006, the first six years of my life. Let's hope that at least one of the other lines gets electrified in the near future.
It looks almost like a tunnel bored straight through a mountain.
how did you get into the cab? I might want to get a video like this
Simply go to the front of the train to the cab and ask the operator. They are usually quite allowing.
oh I thought you knew the guy... that's is so cool video of the tunnel
canadiensfan2010
Indeed it is!
I used to take that train. Any Idea how long that tunnel is?
merc340sr 5 km
Why is there so much squealing? Are the tracks in bad condition?
Could be, or the fact these trains haven't gone through their mid-life refurbishing yet, though that's coming up.
***** Maybe. Nice videos btw! I especially like the cab rides.
Anton Dubrau
Thank you very much! I'll try to get others in the future... In fact, I have a sort of "reverse cab ride" coming soon, so keep on the lookout! :)
serieux je savais pas quil avait un tunnel sous le mont royal pour les train
+olivier dorval-joubert
Depuis plus que 100 ans.
Dire que je travail au cn a charny jaurais du le savoir aaa trop loll
+olivier dorval-joubert
lol Quand même. :P
It sounds like Elton McFall is in there with you too
He was indeed!
I hope they get reused
What state are those kind of trains in?
This is in Montreal, QC, Canada. Similar trains to the MR90s are seen on the Metro North service in New York.
theNOVABUSfan the MR90s are kind of like the Kawasaki M8 in that they have pans too.
How do you get in the cab
The cab section is open to passengers (unless it's a not-so-friendly operator), since there is a door next to the operators seat.
Is it for nj transit also
And how do you ask to get in the cab
On AMT trains, the door from the cab section to the passenger section is usually open. You ask the operator in that case.
si tu aime les train je peux peux etre te faire faire un tour de cab un moment donner si tu veux
+olivier dorval-joubert
Bonne idée! :)
how did you get in the cab?
+Robert W
The front of the train is accessible to passengers since there's an exit door there. It's to my left in the video.
+The NovaBUS Fan right! it's been a long time since I've been there
les train intermodal cn peuve pas passer par la a cause de lespacement du tunnel
+olivier dorval-joubert
Et il manque de la ventilation pour le diesel.
Are you a train driver
No, unfortunately.
how did you get in the cab
Im taking them one last time next week before power is turned off on march 30.
I’ll be trying to as well.
@@BenLomonRail nice .
Im doing my final run right now and I mean really right now.
Im at bois-franc
Welp, I already miss them
