    A word to the wise to American viewers; notice how the train starts out on existing conventional rail -- using the exact same electrical system that Metra Electric uses in the Chicago area (which was originally installed by engineers from the Netherlands) in the city and inner suburbs, then on reaching the outer suburbs transitioning to dedicated high speed track operating at a higher voltage. The locomotives can run on either system, both the 1500V DC commuter rail current or 3000V as it is on the terminal trackage on the Antwerp end, and the 25000 volts AC of the dedicated high speed line in between. This is how you incrementally upgrade to faster rail. (1500v DC can go to about 100mph and that's it; if it's upgraded to 3000 as has happened in Belgium, then maybe 125, and beyond that you need the higher voltage AC)

      But of course there are those who will say "but high-speed rail is so expensive to build!" quietly glossing over the fact that the american highway system is the most expensive infrastructure project of all time at ~0.5 trillion dollars

      A word to the wise European viewers. Notice the lack of multi mile-long freight trains. That's because in Europe the train system is targeted towards passengers, not freight. As such they transport freight much less efficiently. Which is good because the USA is far more spread out then much of Europe. Why spend a day(s) on a train when a flight is a fraction of the time?

    • @cg986

      @@cg986 I was being partially satirical. My point being that I hate stuck up Euro rail fans who think the USA has a poor rail system.
      You can look at the data, Western Europe simply transports freight less efficiently. You are far more dependent on your road system then the USA is to move goods.

Did you know that construction companies in Germany make tons of money just for placing signs? One major factor and one example since 15 years in Germany that construction times have doubled. Another example are directives forcing planners to choose the cheapest offer, not considering quality and experience.

    I would suggest using the widest lens angle possible, things tend to look slow when zoomed in. It's also better in fighting camera shake. Also use manual focus it's all at infinity anyway. And a wide aperture lens tend to 'remove' the crud on the windshield. And a fixed manual exposure would be nice too but in that case you would need to crank up the exposure in tunnels which might be problematic if the lens is wide open to begin with.

    Those poles next to the track, carrying the powerlines, are usually around 70 meters apart. The time it takes to from one pole to the next is definitively faster than 1 second. Everyone can see that. And 70 meters/second already translates to 252 km/h, so the train is driving faster than that.
    I timed the time it took to pass 10 poles (700 meters) and that was only ~8 seconds. That would mean the train would actually ride at a speed of 87 meters/second which is 313 km/h. Although I might've made some timing errors, still; the speed will still be around the stated 300 km/h. But absolutely above 252 km/h.

    What is the tall structure on left side of tracks at 12:30 ? To block wind, or train noise?
    A similar structure appears at edge of track 15:00, between the train and an IKEA building.

    De trein rijdt links omdat de lijn aansluit op het Belgische spoorwegnet en daar rijdt men links. Om problemen bij de grens te voorkomen heeft men besloten de trein al vanaf Rotterdam links te laten rijden.

    handle wind,snow across many of the states? It would mean allot of jobs maintaining the tracks,and trains. Once again thanks for the ride. Wake up America.

    Ik betwijfel of de Thalys op dit relatief korte stuk wel de 300 km/u haalt. Dat doet hij zeker wel tussen het veel langere stuk tussen Brussel en Parijs en dan lijken de auto's op de autostrade die langs de lijn loopt wel stil te staan. In ieder geval: van Brussel naar Parijs in 80 minuten, het blijft een fantastische luxe. Ik heb nog de tijd meegemaakt dat je 's avonds uit Parijs vertrok en in het midden van de nacht enkele uren op de sporen bleef stilstaan om 's morgens heel vroeg in Brussel aan te komen, dat was via Luik als ik het me goed herinner.

    • @Keesecito
      @Keesecito  Před 9 lety +1

      Nou, hij rijdt echt 300 km/u hoor. Kijk maar op de snelheidsmeter. minuut 20:34, of tel anders de portalen. Die staan als ik mij niet vergis 60 meter uit elkaar.

      Ik vermoed dat u Lille (Rijsel) bedoeld. Als u van Parijs naar Brussel via Luik (Liège) zou reizen, is dat ene kleine omweg van om de 200 km, wat in die tijd toch ook niet de bedoeling was.

      Isn't that controlled by ETCS, as it is by the LZB on the German ICE ?
      I once had to chance for a cabe ride on the ICE and the driver didn't have to do anything, the system even increased speed to 330 kmh to reduce delay due to delayed departure.

    • @plaatshieruwreactie7736
      @plaatshieruwreactie7736 Před 7 lety +1

      En als de trein te hard rijd, ging de trein automatisch in de noodrem. En dat gebeurde hier dus niet. En de trein waar hij dus 300km/u op rijd heet de HSL (HogeSnelheidsLijn) het spoor op de HSL van Schiphol tot en met Antwerpen is daar speciaal voor gemaakt om 300 mee op te rijden.

  • @Keesecito
    @Keesecito  Před 10 lety +2

    Not that it really matters, but could you tell me where, on which line and how much it goes faster? To my knowledge the fastest ICE runs between Köln and Frankfurt at 300 km/h. But I may be mistaken. In Spain however they goe a bit faster. At some parts of the line between Madrid and Barcelona they run at 320 km/h, so I was told.
