    I think you're setting yourself up for success. It's always easier starting fresh vs working within the constraints of fixing issues as they come up. I bet building that base/floor from new will be just as fast as patching the old one. Great work, keep it up

      @pnwxplore  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! Yeah it’s definitely better starting fresh and it’s going much better than I thought!

    Got our hopes up restoring that door so well then dropped a bomb cutting to the shot of the entire bottom of the camper ripped out! Keep it up man, gonna be ridiculous actually camping in that thing some day!

    I have fixed motorcycle fairings with epoxy before. It works great, the secret is to lay wire mesh into the back or some fiber glass fabric.

    Always looks worse before it gets better. Probably too late, but once you dropped that floor, could you just replace that top piece horizontal piece on each side and put it back in place? Looks like most of the rot was on that, and the floor...darn gravity. Doubling up the floor and to fix that section you cut out sounds good. Making it bigger/taller, seems too daunting to me, but I have confidence you could figure it out if you want to spend your time there.

      I decided to rebuild the whole thing. The original was held together with staples and would have been a pain to take the side wings off. I think it’s gonna turn out pretty good!

    I can't believe how much wood four wheel campers use. For the price of a new one it should be all aluminum and composite, nothing to rot.

    • @pnwxplore
      @pnwxplore  Před rokem

      Overland explorer vehicles does that and it adds a lot more cost. Talking an FWC at mid $30’s to an OEV which start in like the $50’s
      The wood isn’t an issue, it’s maintenance and proper care that is. When taken care of properly, these campers can go 30 years before any major problems. Plenty of old FWC out there

    Could be worse. At least you have the top part pretty solid. Just take your time and copy the dimensions to your truck needs. I worry about rot here in Miami, but i am considering a Capri.

      Build is already done. Turned out well.
      Water intrusion or humidity/moisture is an issue for any camper unless you live in southern Cali or the southwest.

    Knowing what you know now, after building your last topper and wedge. Would you just build one of these from the ground up? Thanks for the content and I look forward to seeing your next update.

      I considered building my own from scratch but it would be a massive project. Starting with this shell is saving me a lot of time over building from scratch. Thanks for watching!

    What a project! It'll be the way you want it now though. Is that an E82 I spy in the garage? I work at a BMW shop in Portland, so it caught my eye.

    I think you're a lot like me. It's not always that you take on huge projects or even underestimate the amount of work thay will be involved. It's mostly just overestimating the ability to not fix everything while you're in there.

    • @pnwxplore
      @pnwxplore  Před rokem +2

      Yeah that’s pretty much it haha. I’m too particular and it’s hard to not just correct things, plus things nag at me if I don’t address it
