To me the difference is how each member of band is treated. In USA bands usually have a lead singer, and there may be a person in the band who never gets the microphone for themselves, but in BTS each member gets the microphone in a song. Everyone has their time to shine, and they also have solo songs under BTS. And songs with just the rappers or just the vocalists.

As an Army I'm telling you that nobody has our hearts individually cause our hearts belong to all of them. As their fandom we are happy when they are together and we know that they are also happy when they are together. Armys also give them all the space to shine individually. They can go solo when they want and then come back as a group, they can do whatever they want because Armys love them unconditionally due to the fact that they are real brothers, real geniouses, really humble and care so much about music and Armys. We are talking about the bests of the bests and you will find out gradually as you go deeper into the rabbit hole. Thank you for reacting.

It's about appreciating the authenticity, teamwork, and positive influence they bring to our lives. @@_LVLUP_@_LVLUP_ Also, with Jungkook, since he grew up with the members, you can see how his interests are a great blend of all the other members. He has definitely excelled in all of them, but since he was around the members, his hyungs (older brothers), during a very pivotal time in his life. He was learning not just about himself but about what his interests were in life, and he had his hyungs around him all the time who were into all these different things and who were more than happy to teach him about them so he was able to learn and since he is so talented he was able to not just learn them but become amazingly talented at them.
Also, with the nickname, you can see other languages do that, too. Spanish does it by adding -ito or -ita onto the last part, depending on if it is a girl or boy.

    Thank you for finding them.
Among ARMY, there is a saying that BTS finds you when you need them the most in your life. :)
My bias is Jin, but I basically love all seven of them. They all have different personalities and different talents, and they seem to combine like cogwheels to create the best balance and synergy. :)
As others have already mentioned, the reason why this introduction video is until 2022 is that BTS members have all gone into military service in accordance with South Korean law.
After releasing a collaboration single, The Astronaut, with Coldplay, Jin, the oldest member, already enlisted about 13 months ago and is currently serving as an assistant in the Korean Army boot camp under Korean law.
And J-Hope joined the military about 9 months ago after releasing his solo album Jack In The Box and collaborating with J.Cole. J-Hope is also serving as an assistant to the Korean Army boot camp in a different unit from Jin.
Suga released his solo album, D-Day, and he sold out all of his world tours and ended successfully, and he joined the army, last September 22.
And V and RM joined the army on December 11, and Jimin and Jungkook joined the army together on December 12.
RM ,the leader of BTS, released his solo album, INDIGO, and another album will be released after joining the army.
Jimin released his first solo album, Face, last March, and the title track of the album, Like Crazy, became the first Korean male solo artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100.
V released his solo album, Layover, last September, and after joining the army, he is scheduled to collaborate with IU, a Korean female soloist.
Jungkook, the youngest member, sang "Dreamers" at the opening ceremony of last year's World Cup in Qatar, and his single "Seven" released last July became the second Korean male solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, and recently released his first solo album, GOLDEN.
Due to their military duty, BTS briefly stopped working on a group they had been working on for eight years, and have been focusing on solo work for the past year.
They promised their fan base, ARMY that each of them will grow further through solo projects and come back together in 2025 after completing their military service.
Five months from now, on June 12, Jin will return from the military, and J-Hope will also return to our side on October 17. Jin and J-Hope, who will be discharged first, will entertain ARMY until the other five members return in June 2025. :)
You can watch videos of their enlistment day on their official channel, BANGTANTV, and see the seven of them filled with trust and love. :)
Oh, can I recommend some songs that I was comforted by them?
I'd like to introduce the story of the iconic trilogy that led them to a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
DNA: Joy of fateful love → Fake Love: Realizing that love was a lie → IDOL, The Truth Untold, Epiphany, Answer Love Myself: To love other people completely, you should love yourself first.
These are included in Love Yourself Trilogy.
And RM's speech at the UN cannot be missed. He was only 24 years old at the time!
Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance, these three songs were released in English to give positive energy to people around the world during the pandemic caused by Covid-19. :)
Most of their songs are in Korean, and their music video provides subtitles in several languages, including English.
And I highly recommend the music video and live performance of Spring Day and Mic Drop.
These two songs are totally different from each other, and you can feel the diversity of their music.
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative.
It'll also be fun to listen to their albums in order and analyze them. :)
If you're curious about their personalities, I recommend their variety show, Run BTS. (There is also their song, live performance, and dance practice with the same title as this.)
There is a considerable gap between them on stage and usual. They are actually very cute and funny. 🤣
Oh, I recommend Suchwita(meaning time to get drunk with Suga), too. Suchwita is a talk show created by Suga to promote the members' solo albums. Now, it's much larger than his initial intention, so he invited a variety of guests other than the members, though. 🤣
    Episodes in which the members appeared are ep.1, 7, 9, 12, 14, 15, 18 and 21. :)
You can hear the behind-the-scenes stories of the members' solo work in these videos.
He is currently serving in the military, and profitable activities during military service are prohibited under Korean law, so episodes he filmed in advance before joining the military are now being released every few weeks.
And I highly recommend BTS HARDSHIPS 2013-2021 by xCeleste.
This video shows why BTS and ARMY have a strong bond and why ARMY is so protective of BTS.
Sorry for this long comment. But I hope you enjoy this journey. :)

Dreamers is from 2022... we all have to get used to the fact it is 2024 now. 😋
Personally I would tell the "Love Yourself" era with:
Intro: Serendibity -> DNA -> Outro: Her -> Intro: Singularity -> Fake Love -> Outro: Tear -> Epiphany -> IDOL -> Answer Love Myself
      (Korean and Japanese)

There are many videos of the boys and don't worry about the language, because the vast majority of them are subtitled. In addition to their songs as a group, everyone has their solo songs. They are currently doing their mandatory military service in South Korea since the country is only in a truce with North Korea. No, he wasn't.
      He was 13 at *audition*.
Then 15 when he joined - and debuted - with BTS.
      He's said it himself.
He auditioned "in the summer of 2011" . Back then (not sure if it's still true), official auditions were held in June/July (though companies would go to schools, dance academies, etc. year round to recruit). Him being born in Sept. means that was roughly 2-3 months *before* his 14th birthday.
He was a trainee from age 13 to age 15 - just under a year and a half.
Note that in the summer of 2012 (at age 14) is when he came to the U.S. for a 3-week intense training session in hip hop style dance. That's when, as he spoke about in American Hustle Life, that the 1 day they took a break "just to have fun", he wasn't allowed to swim in the ocean because he didn't wash his clothes while in that "training camp". LOL
Anyway, he often talks of moving into the dorm - thus joining BTS - in Nov. of 2012. With a Sept. b-day? That means he joined BTS around 2-3 months *after* his 15th birthday.
So, he was an "old 13" at audition, but a "young 15" when joining BTS.

    • @ashleyder9164
      @ashleyder9164 Před 7 měsíci +1

@MystiqueRisingSun That is simply not accurate. He moved into the dorm in summer of 2011. He "himself" says he was 15 because he is using Korean age. He did audition in June...AND shortly thereafter moved to the dorm. He lived in the dorm while a trainee!
I don't know where you're getting November 2012 from, but it doesn't even make sense given they've often said Jimin was the last to join them, and he was in the dorm by May of 2012. In fact, the only member who didn't live at the dorm for the majority of their trainee time was Jin. Jin is WIDELY known to have moved into the dorm last, in July of 2012.

also they dont need to go solo they ARE solo. they get to be a group AND be solo artists. you were correct about V's music hes very r&b/jazzy/blues. but they dont need to leave the group to be successful solo artists they already do that. the way of western boybands doesnt apply to bts they dont treat the leader or main vocalist as most important. theres NO EGO in this group. and theyre all able to shine as a group and as solo artists whenever they feel like it.
this is why theyve been together almost 11 years already while most boybands break up at 7 years or less. when bts come back in 2025/2026 theyll still be just as big if not bigger. and the reason you do not know any of this is cause the media doesnt report on the truth. if bts were to be boxed into a genre category they should be considered a hip hop / r&b group but they do more than that too so really any label isnt good enough. especially the pop, kpop, boyband labels barely fit them at all.

One thing I’ve always appreciated about BTS albums is many have solo songs for each member included. That seems so smart. Instead of members feeling like they have to leave to have freedom to shine alone in their own sound they support each other. On top of the fact that they all are really humble and love each other like family. The amount of time they spend on camera, behind the scenes or going live I would’ve expected to see some egos at some point but in all these years never have.
Right now they are all in the military and so they each put out solo work….and did amazing while supporting each other. I haven’t really seen other groups do that.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know them with an open mind. They will return in 2025 as a group and they have so much content both as a group and solo you’d fill the next year easily. 💜
Originally RM was my bias but as I got to know them more it can change depending on the moment, the mood, the song. They all get their time to shine and can hold their own. Definitely OT7 now.

I couldn’t see where anyone else addressed this but in South Korean serving in the Military is mandatory for men between the ages of 18 and 28 to serve a minimum of 18 months. They did not join because there is an active war going on but because they have to. They have staggered some of their entrances based on age. Jin the oldest went in first and will be out in June 2024, while RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook, went in, in December 2023 and will be out in June 2025.

They did sold out arena's when they were rookies like during the first 2 or 3 years of their career. But they have already sold out stadiums with 40 thousand to 90 thousand seating capacity across the globe including the Sofi Stadium, Allegiant STadium, Rose Bowl in the US and even the legendary Wembey Stadium in the UK while singing in Korean. They can sell out tickets within minutes. Getting a BTS concert ticket is like hunger games. Those 700 awards were only as of March 2022. As on now, they've already won over 900 awards plus 36 Guinness World Record. Lmao as you see, ARMY flooding the comment section. We love reaction videos. 28 yo from the Netherlands here, I found BTS at the start of my depression a few months ago and went down the rabbit hole. They give me so much motivation to better my life and learn to love myself.
I got introduced to BTS through Jungkook, although I had heard of them ofcourse and listened to Dynamite in the past and heard J-hope's song Arson before, but JK really started it for me. I soon learned to love J-hope and Suga. Jimin, V and RM followed and at last I started to absolutely love Jin too. I'm now OT7 and don't have a bias anymore, I absolutely love all of them equally and I respect them so much.
You were right about V liking that R&B, he does a lot of songs in that genre for his solo work. The boys all released solo songs and albums the past years. It's very interesting to see their vastly different styles and then see how they still work so well together, it's amazing. They are now in the military and will be back in 2025. They'll get back together and make more music then.
BTS discography covers different genres and over 300 songs. They are lyrical geniuses and many of their songs and music videos have hidden layers that cover art, literature, poetry, philosophy and psychology. That's why it may be smart to look up the meaning of their songs and music videos after you watch them, it's really interesting to see how everything they say and do in songs and MVs is on purpose.
Have fun with kpop! I love all kinds of music and the fun thing about kpop for me is that it spans all types of music :P it's a very innovative and fun industry.
Oh a tip: BTS live performances are absolutely amazing. Try some of those! Ive already seen great suggestions in the comments.

I think it's fine if you pronounce Jungkook the way English pronunciation suggests. Basically, if you saw that, how would you instinctively read it. There are nuances based on the Korean pronunciation, but it's not that far off and this kind of spelling I think is supposed to help international fans to pronounce it easier (because if you transcribe his name from the Korean alphabet, it's actually spelled Jeongguk). Or you can just call him JK, if you want to. You're still doing better that certain interviewers that pronounced his names ten different ways (in front of him, mind you) and not even once did they get even close. And it was literally because they were trying alternate pronunciations of different letters when it would be find if they just read the word in the first way that comes to mind.

    • @_LVLUP_
      @_LVLUP_  Před 8 měsíci +16

I try so hard to pronounce names correct and I try to apologize for the mispronunciation! but that is so messed up for the interviewers to do that, they could ask them how to correctly pronounce their names out of respect !

      @msmichellewinchester Před 8 měsíci +8

@@_LVLUP_ Exactly. There are obviously interviewers that are trying their best and BTS are always tolerant towards people having trouble, but asking the person before broadcasting the butchered pronunciation to the world is the least. In my experience reactors like you usually try their best with the pronunciation and don't have a point of reference. There are short videos on YT that tell you how to pronounce their names, so you can try that just to be sure, if you really want.

@@_LVLUP_ I have to correct this person above. South and North Korea are at war and military service is mandatory due the North's continuous threats against the South. While the North doesn't act on the threats, the two countries merely agreed to a ceasefire and remain at war. IF North Korea shows any sign of active military aggression, the South will deploy its military but as long as North Korea doesn't start a shooting war, the South won't deploy its soldiers either. Military service is an issue of patriotism for South Koreans and whenever a celebrity receives exemption, special treatment or is discovered to have attempted dodging the draft, it becomes a societal issue, so many celebrities refuse special treatment on grounds that they'd be hated by the public for eternity. In BTS' case, they stated early on that they'll serve like every man in their country, it's a shared duty and they've always been adamant balancing anti-estanlishment and anti-status quo messaging with fulfilling your duties as kids, as men, as employees, as employers, as people part of society, etc.

That clip of them handing out fliers on the street is from the reality show American Hustle Life that they filmed in the summer of 2014 where they went to LA for 2 weeks to learn more about hip hop. They got to meet Coolio and Warren G and participated in different challenges. So one of their assignments was to promote their small free concert that they did at the end of the series. And to think just 7 years later they performed 4 nights at SoFi Stadium the same stadium where the Super Bowl was held in 2022. So here's the lesson to be learned if you see some young kids on the street asking you to come to their free concert you might want to take them up on their offer, because years down the road it might be a bloodbath to get their concert tickets.
Recently a BTS docuseries called BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star was added to Disney Plus. It's an 8 episode series (around 30 minutes an episode) kind of recapping the last 10 years as a group. • @niam.3053
    @niam.3053 Před 8 měsíci +16

I'm commenting as I'm watching, so sorry for the wall of text.
Anyway, in what the West calls "K-pop", people who rap aren't a rarity, rather the norm but 99% of "K-pop rappers" don't write or produce their songs, the label hands it to them.
The most common feature people mention when it comes to BTS is authenticity, something which K-pop lacks because it's fundamentally an industry designed to create ideals for teenagers, eye and ear candy.
BTS was supposed to debut as a hip hop group but their producer-CEO decided to debut them as an idol (K-pop) group due to their very limited funds. Idols get more stage opportunities which brings in more money that was reinvested in BTS' career and personal enrichment. (The company wrote off holiday expenses as work-related expenses by sending the guys on trips they filmed for fans 😅) The CEO also allowed them to make the music they want - obviously he and his producer friends helped them but they were never just given songs, all members worked on their albums from day one and the messages in their songs were always the thoughts and feelings of the members.
ARMY (not K-poo fans) don't pick favourites. Some people still cosign the "bias" system but most of us dislike even the language. I cannot fir the life of me choose a favourite because they're seven unique people with complimenting but vastly different charms. It's like choosing between kittens - if somebody can, good for them but low-key, it's weird. That's how ARMY views favoritism within the fandom. That's actually how BTS view it, too, they can't exist without each other at this point.
A note about "roles", that's more a K-pop thing than a BTS thing. All of them dance, it's just that their choreographer assigned J-hope with supervising since he's very meticulous. There are no main, sub, etc vocalists since BTS' method involves EVERYBODY trying for all parts and deciding together with the producers who sounded best - this is why it sounds hilarious when the guys switch lines, it just doesn't sound...right. This is usually opposite for K-pop groups, members are trained to sound a feel similar so if somebody is sick or gets kicked out, it's not jarring. I can write essays on this but you can also watch Boracity Magazine's video "why most armys don't like kpop" and Elliot Sang's "BTS vs Kpop, a video essay" to popular views on the topic. These were made specifically for people interested in BTS, they're safe to react to just put "reaction" in your title.

BTS has a mentality of the group before the individual, they always talk about "BTS" is more important than their individual wishs and they'll always prioritize the group. They always solve any conflicts all together too, even if is between just two of them. I think that helps they to let go of their egos and work for the group. Everyone has their role is respected in their role. They're such great people too and that helps, everyone always compliment them about it, since school.

Most Army will say they have a bias ( which is a member you relate to the most) however most do not say favorite because they are all amazing and we support them all. There’s not one member better than the other. They all have their spark and are all talented

@@MystiqueRisingSun to me bias means the member you connect with the most. It could be the music, the looks, the personality or the artists circumstances in life. I for example have a lot in common with Min yoongi hence why he’s my bias. I have nothing in common with hobi but i love his music and his personality and his happy demeanor that id aspire just to have a little of. RM is my wreckers wrecker because of his leadership qualities, humble nature and poetic abilities. So i feel then all members are a bias to me in one way or another. But i never say favorites. Cause that entails i think one member is better than the others and i don’t think that at all

@@geekyreader34 Oh, no...sorry! I should have clarified. I was going based on definition, not what I thought.
Bias = "having a favorite singer or band member in an idol group".
      Thus, bias LITERALLY means "favorite".
That connection - of course - can be based on personality, background, similarities, looks, and many, MANY, other things.
Why/How you choose your bias (if you have one) is as individual as those who have one...but, even with a bias - as stated - you can still love (and support) all of them equally, it just means you love them all differently.

Did you say something about Suga struggling with addiction or did I misunderstand you? If so, I'm not sure where you got that idea, but he never struggled with addiction, he has struggled with mental health issues like general anxiety, OCD and depression, self-harm, trauma and social anxiety. He has also struggled to be emotionally open and show his feelings, partly because of his mental health struggles and partly the influence of his emotionally closed off father and Suga not getting enough love as a child. His BTS brothers have taught him to be more openly loving and affectionate. None of the members have had any addiction issues. Just clarifying in case that is what I heard.
By the way, you are getting a lot of recommendations for Seven because it's fairly new and because your first reaction was to Jungkook and it's another solo song of his off his new album. Since BTS has such a huge discography with hundreds of songs and a ton of diversity, there is a lot to choose from.

In Korean, adding "ie" at the end of someone's name signals endearment. Adding "ah" is usually informal and used by people older than the subject. "Hyung" is a honorific meaning older brother used by younger men to refer to older men but also used by non relatives. So for example you'll see the members all other than Jungkook refer to themselves as "hyung" and Jungkook calls them all hyung cus he's the youngest, but he also adds an "ie" before the "hyung". For example him saying "Namjoonie hyung". Namjoon and other members older than him can call Taehyung 'Taehyung-ah' or 'Taehyung-ie' and so it goes. That's just how prevalent Confucius was in most of Asia, and why age is so important in countries like Japan and Korea. Just clarifying in case you get confused by some clips lol.

RM just holds a special place, ever since I learned that he would not translate hate comments to the other members when going through their fan comments, therefore taking in all the hate comments to himself (Great leader looking out for his members).
The MV that interested you in the beginning is JOKE by RM. It's truly an awesome video and I recommend you watch and also have lyrics translation by doolset (they help with worldplay translation as well). RM wrote JOKE literally as a joke to all the haters that kept saying he isn't a "real rapper".

V/Taehyung's loves Jazz, RnB and neo soul, his debut album "Layover" is one of a kind masterpiece in same genres.

His solo era was most unique and versatile for me.
He's serving in elite defense forces now, its called STD in army. Which is anti terrorism force.
V/Taehyung is the one who turned me into an army, he has so much depth in his character, unique personality, kind heart, empathetic, emotionally intelligent and also a musical genius. Like jimin said he's down to earth but also fun and unpredictable. I love everything about Taehyung, he's an inspiration to me.

I tell people to try really hard to not view BTS or Kpop artists with western (American) eyes. Use that view for their musical talent.
They are Korean and Korean society is wholly different. It is a democratic country but culturally very different as most of Asia is to the west. Hierarchy and respect for elders anyone older than you - (even down to months) is in the cultural DNA.
Showing respect for ones elders is a good thing however in some instances it can be harmful because not everyone uses the tradition for good.
The fact that is is so intrinsic to the culture is important and shows one of the many differences in culture.
The Korean nation began in Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula when people started settling there 700,000 years ago. So RM being the leader is very important and the respect (especially RM as he is one of the best leaders) is genuine. Learning over time about Korea, their culture , and the Korean entertainment industry taught me how truly remarkable BTS are.
