- When two mid-century architecture-loving homeowners bought this suburban home, they knew they wanted to bring it back to its former glory. Working closely with builder BenHomes, creative minds Raymond Girard and Laird Kay gave this dated home a new life, modern upgrades (a sleek green kitchen!) and a colorful maximalist edge that fits their lifestyle. From lego sculptures to aviation paraphernalia, this stunning collectors' can only be described as FUN!

Echoing the majority of comments here: this was a great house with fun homeowners. Terrific video with a story! More of this please!
This home is just as fun as its owners! Itâs wonderful when a âdesignedâ home can be as true to the personality of the owners as this one is. Itâs always been my fear that a designer wouldnât quite âgetâ me, you know. For one thing, Iâm in total agreement with the gentleman that said he wasnât into so many white spaces. Iâm in love with the color of the curtains!
We had gold curtains in our home in Dallas when I was a child; 1960's. Not certain what the pop pallete was like back then.
@@sarahelizabeth7638 My mother had JC Penney make custom gold velvet curtains for our house when I was 7-8, in the mid â60s. I thought they were the most beautiful things! That was in Little Rock, Arkansas.
It wouldn't surprise me if my mother ordered from pennies also. I think she liked JCPenney back then.
@@sarahelizabeth7638 Thatâs neat. Weâre from the same area of the country, basically.
@@rneustel388 cool.
I love them, as an Architect my self I think they did an amazing job with this house, it feels fresh but it has a lots of character and definitely seems like it belongs to them. As they said sometimes mid century modern houses now days feel like cutouts, they don't have a soul because they were trying to achieve a certain look, this house feels like it belongs to them.
What a sweet couple, very respectful of each other's contribution to the discussion about the house. It looks a very warm, welcoming yet well curated home.
I like it when the homeowners show their interests and collections.
I love it when I like the collections.
Great place!
House and home team, thank you for this video. It's great when the videos are longer and more detailed! I love listening to people's life stories and how they connect to their houses
This house was a BREATH of fresh air! What a stunning, personal, joyous representation of their individual unapologetic personalities without constant âresaleâ mindset. Stunning. What I wouldnât have given to have my grandmothers home bought by people who appreciated history and story of a home instead of the people who bought it and made the entire home white with marble floors, kitchen and bathrooms.Soulesss.
Such a sweet relationship between those two!
BEST video H&H has ever done!!!! Wow. These men have true style. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. H&H please, please do more content like this.
So glad to see homeowners with actual taste and personalized styles! Not just painting everything black and gold and white and making everything modern.
Easily my favorite. I was in love when I saw mid century đ
I think sign of a truly great renovation is that it looks like "this is how is should have been designed all along". Just the perfect balance of new and well-loved pieces.
We have a Samsung Frame TV and I love that when it's "off" there's not a big black slab on the wall.
I would buy that house in a HEARTBEAT! It's perfect.
That's the most functional home book wall I've ever seen. No sculptures or plants taking up book space, different spaces for magazines and different sizes of books, wonderful.
I love this and love that they used so many pre-loved things and found things, even out of the garbage.
ok wow. So much inspiration to be found here! I love the kitchen, the orange, the sage, the bookshelves! not to mention the owners. I can't wait to show this to my 11 yo son who loves lego, airplanes and home design! what a fun and creative home.
Those amber velvet drapes make my heart sing.
Iâve watched this video so many times, and it keeps getting better. What a unique, personal style that pays homage to the best of mid-century design without being themey. So much character. Love the homeowners too.
This place succeeds more so than the typical H&H episode due to their use of vintage. A house wonât have a soul if everything is new. Great job you two!
I didnât realize until this moment that these two gems are exactly who my husband and I are unintentionally inspiring to be⊠Love this so much!!
Articulate, talented, fun and interesting owners! Love this house, wish we could have seen the pool area, appreciate how they value and display their books (as opposed to the sad trend of hiding the spines). I covet the studio and all that Lego to play with and the airplane studio, too. Wow! More like this please!
I love this so much. A big nod to mid century without being cliche. And I love that youâve embraced a split level. And OMG, keeping the paneling was EVERYTHING!!!
Love this house! And this couple. Great taste but not stuffy and a true appreciation of everything they love
Wow, you can literally feel the personality everywhere! Amazing inspo, thank you! â€
Those office spaces are to die for!!!
Love this home and the homeowners are awesome. They have a great eye for design and appreciation for the footprint of the house. I love how they have embraced the paneling, rug and took it to the next level. Classic and playful.
Wow...what a way to update and predate at the same time. When they said southern Ontario I thought it could be my own home town, so many of these split levels built when I was a kid. They've brought such life to this one!
Chefs kiss to that Lego room
This is certainly my cup-a-tea. I have styled my new home very similar to this absolutely beautiful Mid-Century modern and I absolutely love it. WOW! what a treat this home is and yes, Raymond Girard and Laird Kay have created heaven that they can certainly relate too ... Love Love Love
LOVED THIS!!! Thereâs not much mid century mixed with maximalist style. So beautiful.
I love this house, so much color and character!
One of the best house is I've ever seen love their collections Longford mid-century love their taste love the bank air every room is amazing congratulations you great men and you got great taste
I love what they did with this house! I love the bookcase, especially the magazine shelves. Beautiful!
What a wonderful segment. Two very interesting people. Loved hearing their take on the design while embracing their passions. So much fun to listen to. thanks H&H.
This house is so cool! I love the studios / offices and LOVE that smoking room! Itâs just the perfect amount of MCM to avoid being kitschy! Well done!
This was fascinating in the best way possible! I absolutely loved how they added their personal touch to the entire home, and took a cookie cutter style house that is everywhere, and made it unique and beautiful and stylish and so full of life and color! Kudos to the homeowners and builders and design influences that brought this all together...it is really magnificent.
this is reeky beautiful! I have never seen a home which is so customised in H&H where it's matches and compliments the couple in such an extraordinary way. its not a house for anyone. its a home for them
Absolutely stunning. In love with everything. Itâs like my brain was transferred into their home and they get to live in it. Plus, they are both very handsome. SOOOOâŠâŠ..JEALOUS đŹ
Lego room is the show stopper!!
I love mid century furnitures and teak. This home is so tastefully done, clean and not overdone.I love how the kitchen is like a jewel from the living room. Just beautiful.
Absolutely love everything about the house.
The house has a strong, warm and welcoming personality! Lovely !
This is perfect Mid Century Modern mixed with contemporary living. I love all their choices, especially the library in the main living room . Just gorgeous.
What an interesting home with such a great color scheme. Really, really the gorgeous dining room table!
I adored this. Didn't think I'd see fellow mid century avid maximalists on this channel. Their house is fire
LOVE the house! And the owners are so lovely :)
I like how they unapologetically embrace their belongings. đ
Elevated nerdery .. ha! Perfect!
The house is gorgeous! It just kills me that theyâre the literal stereotype of a HGTV couple.
âHi! Iâm a photographer, my husband is a Lego sculptor and we have a budget of $895,000â (made the price up).
How did they afford this!?
I love this! I love their life together, and they have such style and taste. I want to explore that house properly. Bet they throw exceptional parties đž
wow, would i LOVE to go to a party hosted by these two in their amazing home. so much inspo. just finished watching, and i'm going to watch it again now!!!
The dream home. Iâd live in this house any day.
I love this home with its individual rooms and WALLS. It's so refreshing to see a kitchen that has not had the walls torn down. I agree with Raymond Girard about the white walls in the bedroom, but the room does soften when those gorgeous curtains are drawn. @10:28, love that little collection of buses and actually rode some of those routes growing up in London (UK) where I still live.
'This' is exactly what I look forward to seeing.. they're super naturals hosts!!!
Wonderful home and interview. Itâs so impressive to me that the exterior in particular has such a natural mid century feel now considering what it was before. Just stunning.
I'm glad to see more colour in design lately
Love these two 'transport geeks' such a fun couple with excellent style.
The mossy cabinets đ gorgeous
The transportation theme đȘ
This is one of the few interior designs that actually makes orange look good! Orangey hues aren't easy to work with but these guys made it work. Nice!
The modern 1970's aesthetic. â€ïž
I love how this house looks. You all did an amazing job.
I love these guys. They are so unique and entertaining. Anyone would have a good time with them. I bet they are the best hosts and I for one would love to be at one of their cocktail parties.đ. They have such great taste. I never would have guessed their house originally was the classic split level. It was an amazing transformation.
Love the couple!!!
This house is amazing!
Would have been fun to spend LockDown in that Library Living Room with pre dinner drinks every night!!! Lol!
I've watched this video so many times, the home is just so charming and tells such a story about the couple and their lives together, and their own interests individually.
Love love love all those green plants...large scale pots and large scale plants... I am SO copying this idea!
Whoa. Coolest lego sculptures.
love the house, the owners, and the sculptures!
Though midcentury is not usually my thing, they personalized it and made it fun and hip! Love it!
What a delightful couple! And a wonderful restoration of the home!!
Love the whole vibe of this house!
Love these guys, and the amazing design work they instilled in that dated mid-century split-level suburban house. Their personalities and style are stamped into every room, finish and form. Good on ya guys, and H & H as well.
'Elevated nerdery'. That's my design aesthetic nailed!
Everything about this is gorgeous but it still feels like a very comfortable home. What you guys did with this is brilliant.
FINALLY COLOR. GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!!
If I see one more black and white house Iâll scream
Ahhh Yes!! Finally a home with depth, design, colour. House and home you need to show more folks like this rather than your traditional âwhiteâ aesthetic. Bravo âšđđœâš
The buses!!! đđŒđ
Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Our homes should reflect what we love. Great design to show case all of that and more.
Love this! The transit touches throughout make it extra special.
Such a fun house! Loving everything rebuilt in it!
LOVE the reuse of materials. The bar-to-countertop is gorgeous. They've created one of the best, fresh versions of this distinctive architectural style that I've seen. Love that they kept the rec room as is! And a B&O stereo?? I'm in love with these gents and their wonderful home. đŻ
I love the personality off these two gentlemen it comes out in there colourful beautiful home and each room shows how they are in day to day living are there work or hobbies. Thanks for sharing đ đ âïž đ
My gosh, this home is stunning!
Really beaitiful home! Aspirational! design and not boring!!!
Absolutely gorgeous in every way.
Great way to adapt a space and style to your own needs. The house feels lived in and purposeful.
What fun and daring! Love the drinks/smoking room! Pure bravery to keep the panelling, but what a treasure. Fun quirky art.â€ïž
And the Lego! Heaven!
Love every inch of this home!
The house was very interesting I loved alot of things about it.
Loved this space! How fun!!
Beautiful space! Love yâallâs âelevated nerdery.â
Very impressive!!!đđđ
I love the green in the kitchen. After living in Palm Springs for many years I can attest to the fact that they have captured it in many ways, minus the 120 degree summers.
The space planning which has resulted in such airy and relaxing spaces is commendable. Very accessible and clearly sophisticated.
I have watched this THREE times now and am still intrigued by their design. Bravo!
My parents built a house exactly like this in Louisville, KY in 1973 and lived there for fourteen years. The lower level room to the left was my bedroom. I like that they added a new garage in front of the old one and made use of the old garage space as a studio. 'Bi-levels' or 'raised ranch' houses were common in the 1960s and 1970s but this particular style was rather rare so I was fascinated to see how it was transformed.
God bless your beautiful and inviting casa. Fun colors. đ€đ„đ»đ
I love this couple
I love the layering of the contrasting hide rugs!
