  • Today we gonna do a little Metal Art behind the scenes! I wanted to do an episode on how to engrave metal, as I get a lot of comments on this phase of my metal art. This is a STRANGE episode, as I filmed it WEEKS ago, and have already put out the art piece last week on my channel, if you haven't seen it, check it here • A NEW Art Technique! A...

Getting the flex shaft attachment is a life saver. I'm a wood carver and it has helped out tremendously and helps out with getting those accurate detail cuts that you can't quite get while holding the actual dremel in your hand.

That weird shaped one u mentioned is great for making curved lines or circles. You use it on laying almost flat on its side so the end of it is touching the material like a wheels. It's the best bit in the set for making nice crisp curves without coming off your line.

just different type of settings and techniques for autobody work.... I'm working on a 71' C-10 and I need to figure out how to set up my welder to tiq weld in some panels.... so I guess Butt welds and how to tig thin(20 ga) without being able to put a chiller on the back side of the panel.... Thanks for the awesomeness!!!! It's people like you that make youtube worth watching.... Gives us the "How To" and all we need is the "Will to" do it.... Blessings brother!!!!

Excellent and beautiful art!! This is really inspiring, I could learn a lot from your channel! My dad got me an engraving pen for Christmas. I've always wanted to engrave and then paint on a metal sheet. But I sort of don't know where to begin! I have so many ideas, but ideas are only ideas until they come into fruition!
I'm loving the geometric, rigid, structured style you've got in combination with whimsical patters and colors. Beautiful work!

Awesome video Dusty. Weird timing. I just rebuilt the collet lock button on my dremel to bring it back to life, it’s so old that it’s the 300 series - which assumedly became the 3000. It’ll run another 20 years now 😎 They just don’t die!

Dude I had one of those extendable precision engraving arms it was freaking awesome! While it lasted lol Just make sure there isn't too much friction from the angle on the cord running from the dremmel. Lol it can actually melt right through from the spinning Speeds. Yeah that totally sucked because it was so awesome and so much more comfortable and precise. Definitely going to have to get another one. You had a good idea mounting it above where you're going to be working. I had mine hanging on the table leg which is why there was so much tension. Anyway, gna finish watching lol

Very well explained. I just bought the Drumel 3000. I'm gonna be etching a composite aluminum/plastic panel. In doing a test, I realized I went perhaps too deep and exposed the plastic. Right now it doesn't seem to be a problem because the color of the plastic is dark and creates contrast to the metal. This work is going to have paint, screws and some other sculptural elements. You said yours will include paint so my question is do you think it's important to gesso the panel before painting it, or will scruffing it up be sufficient?

Don’t buy a Dremel! Look on eBay for a used dental lab micro motor. They, and the jewellery sector equivalent, are a bit pricey new but a used one makes sense. You can use diamond tipped or tungsten carbide tipped burrs and hold the handpiece like a pen in one hand- proper control- not the two handed Dremel grappling you see here. I inscribe legible handwriting at maybe 10 point in all kinds of metal, it’s so easy!
    Great marking out vid though!

Respirators have to be kept in a sealed plastic bag, with the air squeezed out. Otherwise the simple air movement around it, even if in a drawer, uses the filter up, so when it’s actually used, it’s not doing its job.
Good idea with the straightedge. I haven’t done that.
