Alex, I think you would make a very fine writer. I had this video playing as I was cooking and as such found myself listening more than watching. I discovered that I could easily visualize, based on just your narrative skills, what I was not actually seeing. When I watched it back after having only listened to it, it was like watching a movie that’s been made from a book that you’ve already read. Well done!!!!

I love the old stone walls, the patterns in the sand, the worn wooden post and that you noticed "the quiet battle happening" in the water. Mainly though, I love that you made note of the feeling you have while being in an ancient place! You both are truly content to walk amongst the quiet of the day with the sun shining through the clouds in the chill and bitter cold! ❤

Thank you both for sharing your wonderful travels and finds! I was raised on Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico and memories of beachcombing with my Mom have come back to me since I've been watching your videos......she was so sick for so long......the good memories got buried somehow. I remember when she dragged home ten feet of anchor chain with her truck...the links were as big as dinner plates! 12 yrs ago I went back to Galveston.....there were no seashells or even peices.
I live in the New Mexico desert now, and I miss the sea so much, thank you so very much for bringing me the sea, and its wonders.....and the good memories that I had lost.
You are precious and rare, please take care of each other, and please don't put your real address out there, but I think you're wise enough to not do that. Gratitude and Peace to You!!

You are both amazing, I love how you notice the shapes in the sand. Your picking up the energy that's in every bottle or nic nac you find. I can feel it through the phone. The difference between you finding a 2hundred yr old bottle to finding a one thats only a few yrs. I love listening to all the stories you tell, the info yr spreading and even keeping younger people and kids, ingaged in what yr doing. Hi. The cylinder-shaped rock at 2:58 is a core sample brought up by exploratory drilling into the earth. The round object at 12:15 is a piston from an internal combustion engine e.g. a motor car engine.
I enjoyed this video especially because it once was a Roman town. I like how you and your mom talk about the history of Port Mary also when you were talking about the feel of the river how it was spooky ☠ it because their must be a lot of past souls there. I must go for a visit .🇺🇸

Correct front or boat bow, back of the boat is the stern. I believe the left side of the boat is the port side, right side is the starboard side. A great journey, thank you for all the both of you do and taking us all along. Much love from New Jersey in the states.
A recent video of your popped up while I was watching Random animal videos on Facebook. I loved it! I live near the mouth of the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon, US. Astoria is the oldest American town west of the Rocky Mountains, but that's only around 200 years of settlement. There are Native Americans, but most of what the Chinookan people made was out of wood, so you don't find anything older than 150 years unless you stumble upon a shipwreck, and there were plenty here, but they are almost underwater or buried in sand. I have gone mudlarking, beachcombing, and crystal hunting many times myself so I enjoy vicariously tagging along on your expeditions. You two pick up many of the same things I would pick up, and your jewelry and other things that you make are beautiful! I am amazed by the pea hens and how friendly they are. Our next door neighbor had a peacock for several years, but he always ran away from humans, or flew up into a tree. The videos are beautiful and I enjoy learning the history of your area through the artifacts that you find. I love the little pauses for landscape or nature scenes. In a way, I feel as if we are kindred spirits. I once strung, like beads, a number of old broken bottle necks that I had mudlarked. I hung them like a garland along the edge of my front porch. My Father, gone more than 30 years now,sang me the drunken sailor song when I was a child. He had a beautiful singing voice and I can remember what he sounded like singing that song, even though I have forgotten how he sounded when he spoke. I love your voices too! I chuckle at the excited sounds Alex makes when spotting something good! Thank you! I fully intend to watch every one of your videos over the next few weeks.

I am REALLY enjoying your "Mudlarking". Here in the states we call it "Beachcombing". I'm a beachcomber from way back. I grew up on the coast of California (Santa Barbara area & south of there). However, I spent most of my life in the ocean surfing, body surfing, sailing, scuba diving, fishing, etc. I love seeing the beautiful & quaint ports of the U.K. i spent half a month touring Scotland (mostly eastern - Edinburgh & up the North East coast to Peterhead & up around. Came down through the center; spent a few days in Pitlochry & attended the Highland Games there & walked the river Tay (I fell in love with Pitlochry-would LOVE to live there someday!). I saw many other sites. But, more important, was my twin sister, myself & husbands took my 86 year old Mother to Scotland! We are descendants of Gordon Highlanders. We took Mom to her castle (yes, she actually owned it at one time, but she turned it over to the Scottish Government so that it could be restored somewhat & become an historical landmark). We took Mom to "her" castle, which she had never seen (she had never been to Scotland.). The castle name is: Huntly Castle. It is in semi ruins, but still very beautiful! Check it out on the internet. It was the Gordon Stronghold. The nearby village of Huntly is very charming & the countryside is gorgeous! Saw many beautiful castles & examined their history. I have an anthropological background which is probably why I love your "Mudlarking" videos. Also, I prefer the term "Mudlarking" over "Beachcombing". Mudlarking sounds more romantic 😊 Keep bringing your fun videos. I love the treasures you find, and, historically, they are also very informative. Have fun, I'll be watching. I was wondering if you made some Mosaic artwork out of your pretty crockery shards? All you need is an old glass-less picture frame and a tub of tile cement. Making Mosaics is a great way of displaying the bits of crockery you find.

Oh, by the way, " twisted metal Iron rope " is usually called 'cable' lol (sorry for being cheeky)
The 'rock cork' thing is where a large hole has been drilled into concrete or rock using a cylindrical core drill, the 'cork' is the waste material from inside the drill bit. The hole would have probably been drilled to be used as a mooring point for boats.
The core drill took a while to centre itself at the start of the hole and as it bounced around made the object narrower at one end.
The high number of nails probably come from a small boat dismantling business in that area. The oldest nails are the flat or square section copper and iron nails, these would often be hand forged individually by a blacksmith (with a lot of patience.) lol xx

Really enjoyable Video, you certainly captured the atmosphere of that ancient port, I'm a detectorist, field walker, bottle digger, youtuber but have yet to mudlark, we don't have too many rivers locally here in Penzance or rather ones that are big enough or accessible but after watching other mudlarkers and just recently finding your channel it needs to be done, I've had a lot of time stuck in after a bad accident a few months back and really want to have a go, I find your videos very calming and entertaining many thanks for that, lovely little iridescent bottle.

I don't think it matters too much if you don't find any 'real' treasure as Alex is a treasure all to herself! Maryport looked wonderful, and you certainly made me realize we'd missed out not visiting when we had the chance! Tourism's bound to go up in The North once folk are free to travel. I think it would be wonderful to dredge that harbour and dump all the mud where you could easily trawl thru' it! Looking forward to Part2 Thank you! 👍😻🦘🐾😎

Awesome video, my family has roots in Ireland, my mom's mom, my grans family came from county Cork. That would be a dream trip for me, to meet family I've never known much of. My grandmother was Irish with the temper to match and my grandad was full blood Cherokee Indian. Keep up the good work. You take people to places they will never be able to see. The pipe stem hole was large in late Victorian era when tobacco was cheaper. The smaller the hole, the older the pipe. 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍

I once uncovered a gravestone on a riverbank very ornate from the 1880s when I posted it on my facebook it was stolen 20 years before since then the family with insurance had put up a new one of much lower quality the find gave them the original back apparently the insurance took back the replacement and shaved it to be given to another gravestone rob victim without remanding refund! a cool story if ever there was one!
