    Great video! What's the OBDII port used for? Is it necessary? I already have a Ring Car/Dash Cam plugged into my OBDII port. Can I unplug it and plug it in?

  • @noelh.8243

    According to the wiring diagram, the 3 pin connector and pigtail need to be connected to power, keyed power, and ground. I didn’t see it address in the video. Are the power connections required or does the head unit get power through the factory connector?

    Hey Colin, great video…. got a doozy for ya. Would it be possible to put the I-509 in another vehicle that is not a Jeep JK?
    I understand there would be a fair amount of modification to undertake, and I am ok with that. I know this unit shares its internals with the ILX-507 and the other 2 larger floating units.
    I would flash the maestro with the appropriate vehicle and utilize the harness from a 507 if necessary. Mounting and bezels I would create a FG mold for.
    I love everything about this unit, and just popping in a 507 and being done would be the sensible thing to do - but I’m willing to do what it takes to have the cooler form factor and the 9” display.

      @colinvargo3418 Před rokem

      Sorry for the very late reply. This unit has the same feature set as an ILX-F509, so not much reason to adapt the Jeep version save for the hard buttons. With some clever mounting, you can make the 509 fit pretty flush in a lot of vehicles.

    I am having an issue where the vehicle diagnostic app auto-starts when I start my vehicle. That wouldn’t be a problem but the app starts and takes over the screen even if I am using the backup camera. And half the time the obd connection does not work and the head unit gives me an error that I have the press out of in order to use the head unit. I just want the vehicle diagnostic app to go away I don’t want to use it. But I can’t delete it and I can’t figure out how to disable auto-start on that app when I start the vehicle. Can anyone help?

    A few questions:
    1. Why the OBDII connection? Does this replace the Uconnect function? I noticed there was no mention of Uconnect with the exception of omitting its connection.
    2. When disconnecting from the OBDII connector in order to connect dealership maintenance diagnostics, will this affect the i509 user preferences, radio station presets, etc?
    3. Will the i509 work with third party backup cameras? I have one installed with my current upgrade.
    4. How many cameras can be installed?
    5. Are the two USB cables routed into the glove box to be left hanging loose?

    • @ArizonaRE
      @ArizonaRE Před rokem +2

      Hey Bill, it's not my channel but I'll render an attempt at answering your questions:
      1. This connection enables some of the features on the device like reading diagnostic codes, enhancing interface items without having to use the small screen in the gauges (like beep on lock functions, etc.), and you can display alternate gauges on the screen -speed, trans temp, oil pressure, etc. You can unplug it for maintenance or for smog inspect (like they do where I live) and then plug it back in afterwards. If you'll never use those features you could leave disconnected altogether, but the device does have more features with it. I found an OBD II splicer that makes the one connection into two without cutting anything, then you'll always have that maintenance/diagnostic port available, search ebay.
      2.Not an issue, the device also has it's own memory storage so as long as it is not disconnected from the battery for too long, you shouldn't lose your preference settings.
      3.Yes, there are instructions for connecting to a trigger wire for this in the included documents.
      4. Front and back, with their dongle. I only have a backup camera, didn't bother getting the Alpine front camera.
      5. Yes, they are loose. I don't have electric windows in my JK, so I plugged in some cables to those connections and routed them into the cubby hole where the window switches normally sit near where I mount my phone. That way I don't have to put my phone in the glove box or have wires sticking out. You could route them to the center console as well.
      Hope that helps B-)

    Three questions:
    1. Tell me about wireless vs wired. Can you get the full 96kHz/24-Bit wirelessly? Does CarPlay support the 96/24 resolution? I remember reading somewhere CarPlay didn’t support hi-red, but those specs are likely old (and predate Apple Music offering hi-res).
    2. For the vehicles with the premium upgrade (and I assume you’re referring to the factory Alpine speaker set) I assume that the flip flopped rear and forward speaker connections are corrected in the software? So when you fade to front it works in the vehicle correctly?
    3. Lastly, on the iDatalink Maestro, you mentioned taking pictures of the steering wheel to get the right configuration. I have some dummy buttons and, given that I’m upgrading the head unit, I would like to add fuller capability (eg change the buttons on the steering wheel so I have the phone button there). Is this possible? Or am I stuck with whatever steering wheel button configuration that came from the factory?

    • @colinvargo3418
      @colinvargo3418 Před rokem

      Hey Chuckie, sorry I missed this comment until now. Carplay downsamples all content to a maximum of 48khz/16bit resolution. This is whether using a wired or wireless connection. We just launched an update to these head units that gives you direct tidal playback through an app in the deck. Please see our latest video for more info on that.
      2. Unfortunately fader is lost when you remove the factory radio. It can be regained by bypassing the factory amplifier, but you would lose quality/volume unless adding aftermarket amps and speakers. There is some complexity involved here. Most people don’t often use their fader, so this typically goes unnoticed.
      3. Maestro offers button customization. When going through the flash steps, you will have the option to make different buttons operate different controls. You should be able to customize to your liking adding phone functionality.
      Hope this helps.

    So the GF just bought a ‘13 jeep with this radio in it. We got it home and now the radio shuts down and restarts every 30-45 seconds. My thought bad connection somewhere. But… where is the question?

    • @colinvargo3418
      @colinvargo3418 Před rokem

      Hey Logan, the maestro module that tells our radio to turn on/off may be hung up. An easy way to reset it is to disconnect your negative battery terminal for a few minutes. Please let me know if this helps.

    i had a check engine light come on in my 2013 JKU (P0480 CODE). the the engine light turned itself off after driving about 10 miles, however the vehicle info on the i509-wra is still giving me a check engine light and none of the vehicle information is available. i used a code reader to clear the code on the jeep (check engine light had turned off, code was still present). can anyone advise on how to clear the code in the head unit so I can see my vehicle info?

      I509-wra-jk does not have its own navigation on board. You can add it with KTX-NS01 though.

    Technically this is not a JK. It’s a JKU. Do you have a bezel that fits 2 power window switches for the 2 door JK instead of the 4 switches found in the JKU?

    • @AlpineTV
      @AlpineTV  Před 11 měsíci

      The i509-WRA-JK utilizes the factory window switches in the new bezel. So, however your vehicle is configured will work with that kit.

    • @colinvargo3418
      @colinvargo3418 Před 5 měsíci +1

      It’s exactly the same size window switch pack. The 2 door just has 2 fewer switches in it, but they both fit the same

    That is not a “screw gun” that is an impact driver

    • @colinvargo3418
      @colinvargo3418 Před rokem

      I used the generic screw gun terminology so people wouldn’t get the idea you needed an impact in particular. A drill or power screwdriver will also help, and still fall under “screw gun”.

  • @iwillbnnedafterispeakwhy6498

    So he just has usb cables (cables that are connected to the fucking stereo) laying in the glove box? WTF this thing cost upwards of $2,000 & this is how it’s done?

    • @colinvargo3418
      @colinvargo3418 Před rokem +1

      This stereo has wireless Carplay, so we don’t need to access them often, but when I do, I like whatever I plug in to be hidden in the glove box.

  • @iwillbnnedafterispeakwhy6498

    The design of that microphone is piss poor. That wire should have been integrated into that bracket so that it had a seamless look
