Hey James, I'm a dog trainer and behaviouralist and had some suggestions of breeds that may be suitable to you and your lifetsyle. All of the following breeds are hypoallergic but do vary in size and temperment so you should look into each yourself before deciding whether you think they're the right fit for you.
First is the Havanese. This dog breed, unlike a husky is small but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in coat. This breed adores people and makes for an extremley loyal companion. Infact, it's it's greatest perk that is also it's greatest flaw. These dogs are so loyal that they hate to be left alone, making them prone to seperation anxiety. However, given that you stated your household is never empty, this may be the perfect match. They're goofy, intelligent, affectionate and make for ideal lap dogs. The main emphasis I'd put on this breed (and any dog for that matter) is heavy socialisation with both dogs and people. More info: dogtime.com/dog-breeds/havanese#/slide/6 .
Next is the Tibetan Terrier. This breed is very similar to the last with the main differences being appearance and background. TT have reasonably calm temperments when properly mentally and physically stimulated. They love to play, learn and sleep but most of all spend time with you. They're highly people orientated and are known for entertaining their families with their silly antics. Simply ensure you spend some time (at least 5 minutes a day) training them so they feel sure in you as the 'pack leader'. All of these dogs will be very well behaved and loving so long as you provide them with strong leadership though rules and boundaries (correcting of bad behaviour). My second to last recommendation for you is the Barbet: The closest suitable breed I found to the Husky. They're large in size and have thick fluffy coats, often confused with labradoodles. Similarily to the last two, this breed has a calm and affectionate nature so long as their needs are being met. They're a joyful. smart, loving and devoted breed that is great with people. What makes the the Barbet different to the Havanese and Tibetan Terrier is their trainability. Although the last two breeds are more than easy to train, intelligance and trainability is an area where Barbets truly excell. Their undenyable intelligance means that they pick things up faster than most, giving them the potential to be impressivley obedient dogs to any owner who spares (5 minutes a day) to train them. Finally, the Saluki.. a breed different to any my previous suggestions- a wild card if you will. This is a large yet graceful hound with a very laid back attitude. It's highly unlikely to bark, drool, or demonstrate destructive behaviour (other than digging) and needs around
