    Thank you for the great review! We are aware of the sound issue, and are releasing a new firmware update shortly, as well as working on a fix to give a bit higher resolution on the video output. We will be announcing a firmware release on our social platforms as soon as it is ready.

      So you said the detection range for heat was 2000 yards yet the identification range for a ‘deer’ was 400 yards. Thats about a 4:1 ratio for identification to range. 400 yards is decent, but for $3799? Not really worth it. Im pretty sure Thor has a better cost for a 400 yard identification range, possibly having cut that cost in half though id have to recheck it to confirm. My point is almost $4000 for that? Id rather save my money.

    Can you confirm the "Optical Zoom" is effectively zooming the eyepiece to magnify the viewing screen without adding even a scintilla of detail to the image? I was hoping the zoomed condition would narrow the field of view to the sensor rather than narrowing the user's field of view of the screen. If it is the latter, I cannot comprehend how the end result is different than 3x digital zoom times 4x digital zoom. Effectively a 2.8 power native magnification times 12x digital zoom for a 33.6 power solution for the L6 or a 3.2 power native magnification times 12x digital zoom for a 38.4 power solution for the L3. Am I looking at this wrong?

    • @OwnTheHunt
      @OwnTheHunt  Před 9 měsíci

      You are looking at it wrong. You are correct in thinking that you are zooming the eye piece in on the display and shrinking your field of view however you are not digitally stretching the image which is how digital magnification works so you are not changing the pixel density of the base image by zooming in on it.

    • @jamescolton1085
      @jamescolton1085 Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@OwnTheHunt So, when I look at only a 640x360 portion of a viewing screen that is 1920x1080 I should feel there is a meaningful benefit by cropping away over 88% of the information? Perhaps the next innovation will be to zoom down to a 96x54 thumbnail at the center of the image and call it 20x optical zoom. Perhaps this makes some sense to users whose eyesight is challenged to the point the screen needs to be larger for them to get the benefit of the available information. To me it is a gimmick that might barely, or might not, help the manufacturer avoid a class action lawsuit based on misrepresentation of the product's features.

    • @jamescolton1085
      @jamescolton1085 Před 9 měsíci

      @@OwnTheHuntThe 640x360 sensor is already oversampled digitally to create 9 pixels from each pixel in the sensor. That is how we achieve a 1920x1080 viewing screen so technically base magnification is already digitally zoomed 3X. then looking at only 1/9 of the screen to achieve a 3X "Optical Zoom" now we have already zoomed 9X and the manual claims there has been no digital zoom yet we are looking at a 640x360 cropped image that represents data from only a 214x120 pixel section of the actual image sensor and telling ourselves we are looking at a 1920x1080 screen. There is no way to have a fully "optically zoomed" image that is based on 1/81 of the imaging sensor and not have already redefined reality by claiming 1.25% of the data is base resolution. Then if we further zoom "digitally" another 4x the entirety of our 1/9th screen view is based effectively on data from only a 54x30 pixel section of the sensor. The result is the same as any other 640x360 sensor being digitally zoomed 36:1 with each sensor pixel creating enough data to represent 1296 pixels of the screen we are looking at. Simply reducing the viewing screen from 1920x1080 to 640x360 would accomplish the same fully zoomed image and do it better. Of course, then you would have to claim a base magnification of 8.4x and acknowledge a really narrow field of view.

      @OwnTheHunt  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@jamescolton1085 well it seems you have put an awful lot of thought into this. Don’t you think the thermal scope manufacturers have already thought of this as well? Trust me, the optical zoom is just a lens behind the OLED display that you can change the focal length of manually to look closer at that display. Nothing digitally happening here.

    I've had several 640 scopes and was kinda taken back when I realized their sensor has 25% less pixels than other 640 sensors. You say it's just as good?
    I like the fact it uses replaceable 18650's because I hate the cr123 that my FLIR and Armasight used and their runtime sucked at 3-4 hours.
    My ATN was way better battery life but the sensors thermal sensitivity was only OK.

      @@OwnTheHunt 640x480 is the one most use, while their's is a 640x360. That said, it's not necessarily bad after I did some research. The 360 is the verticle value and I don't care as much for that as I do the horizontal where panning and FOV matter. Some people are giving them crap about the optical zoom which nobody has except them. Yes, it's zooming in on the display that you're looking at in the viewfinder, but that display is an OLED in 1920x1080, not a lower resolution like many others and that 1920 is still better than the sensor. Pretty smart idea if you ask me. Simple and effective to a point. Glad they thought of it and I'm buying one. Now I need to shop for my best deal.
