- We were planning on changing my bike next year to celebrate a significant birthday - but given the unpredictability and uncertainty in the world along with serious health issues among family and friends we decided why wait ? So join us as we travel to a dealership to trade in my 1200 GSA.The big question is what is the new bike? Something completely different? A Triumph maybe? KTM? Honda? Mmm? Stay tuned to find out!

Nice! Being a short arse as well, I got a low suspension Triple Black GSA last October. I’m loving mine. It’s my first BMW, but I have a suspicion it won’t be my last.

Enjoy your new bike, I never realised the GS had a low chasis option. I need that option on my bikes as I am also a short arse and it tends to limit my choice of bike. Rob

Whilst there are others who would beg to differ, the 1250 is a significant improvement on the 1200, much more flexibility through the gears, improved fuelling and no flat spots - you'll love it. Oh and, Wollaston, what an excellent dealership it is (though shame they lost the cafe).

Yes, sadly we’ve had a few issues lately 😳 we should have just finished a tour to Spain and France but I had a operation on my shoulder which meant we had to cancel at the last minute ☹️ - but we’ll be back on the road next month when we do the second half of the Wild Atlantic Way! The only thing I don't like about the new 1250, is the multifunction indicators. When braking and indicating the brake function over powers the indicator, making them useless. Check out a channel 'Just the way it is' and look at the Weiser upgrade indicators, they are a vast improvement. Ive fitted them on mine!

How utterly wonderful Brian!! The GSA is a great choice and with a low chassis absolutely perfect. I have Daytona boots (strongly recommend) that give extra height (6 centimetres to be exact). Also, with a low chassis, at 5ˋ7, I can flat foot my GS. Many happy and healthy tours for you and Sue and look forward to the coming season. Have a look at weiser led indicators. Best upgrade I've done on my 21plate r1250gs (obviously triple black) white on the front much safer. Carl just the way it is on CZcams covers them. Wheres the billet mirrors. Mine came with them and heated seats and grips 5stage. I'm sure you'll be happy with it 👍

Awesome Brian, of course you made the correct choice. Once BMW, always BMW. I did get a triple black GSA courtesy bike last year ( brand new with zero miles ) had it for weeks while mine was in dock. Put 600 miles on it.....and loved every minute, proper head turner. Ended up replacing mine for a new GS 1250 Rallye.... With gold wheels haha

Nice, I have also chopped my tiger rally pro in for a new bike.
I am a short ass too 5’6” and the rally pro was maybe a little too much, even though I loved it.
My new adventure bike is a triumph bonneville speedmaster - chrome edition and I am loving it, especially knowing i can get the feet down flat foot no problem.
Will not be as fast as the tiger, but go too fast and you miss the places you are travelling through.
After all the best bike for adventure is the bike you have 😂

Nice looking bike. I loved the look of the gold wheels on my previous Africa twin, but they didn’t fair well. They couldn’t be left dirty for a second. The black ones on my new AT are much more resilient thankfully. So my thoughts on the build quality were unfounded, and it seems it’s something to do with the colour and paint structure. I hope you don’t have similar problems.

I have owned an LT, k1300s, 2004 gs and 2013GSA, and a massive haul of other bikes over the years. I simply done see any value in the bmw brand. I will admit that they are an amazing bike, but I wouldn’t waste my money on one ever again.

@@midlifemotorcyclediaries I was quoted over 1500 for a service on my gsa. Literally sold it a week later. (With out having the service done) simply can’t justify that cost. Got myself a 2021 Honda Forza 350. Honestly it is one of my top 3 bikes I have ever owned. Cheap to buy, and run. Has a big screen, comfy, can go all day, holds a massive amount of luggage… honestly, I bloody love my scoot…

Thanks for a fun episode--the only thing more fun than your mate getting a new bike is when you get one. We should have known you wouldn't leave BMW. I'm curious, though, why you wanted to trade in the old one. I've got a 2018 with 35k miles on it and it barely feels broken in. No judgement, just curious. Thanks again.

I’d be interested to know if you considered the BMW RT1250 as a possible replacement and if not, why not? I am looking to replace my Tiger 800 XRX later this year and although the Tiger 900 GT Pro seems the natural replacement I can’t help looking at the Tiger 1200, the GS and RT.
