Merry Xmas! For heart rate accuracy, check out this guy's channel. czcams.com/video/3OQ3jzVSkeM/video.html He uses a Polar chest strap for his base readings.
Maybe it's just me, but I'll take a low power always-on display over a slightly clearer one for a watch. I don't need to see the time or notifications in 4k UHD.
It's a shame that they released this instead of keeping the trans-reflective LCD but with all the benefits of Bio Tracker 2. I'd prefer so much that over an IPS LCD that can't have AOD, instead it eats the battery for no reason. This wasn't the right compromise to keep the price low at all.
I never thought going into 2021 I'd still be looking for a replacement for my 2013 pebble watch. Even with this new amazfit they still don't have the featureset I'm really after. I think I've now accepted there will never be another :(
You really are the Jeremy Clarkson of tech reviews! Keep up the excellent work!! Paul Hibbert's end of year video brought your channel to my attention and I'm happy he did because this channel is awesome!
I opted to buy the bip s, the transflective screen is one of my favourite features and the music controls was pretty much the only upgrade I needed compared to my bip
I bought a pace and love the transflective screen as well, the way you can see the info without having a beacon of light on your arm, plus always on display and longer battery life.
Hello Stu. Have just purchased the Amazfit Bip U based on your fine review. Was wondering how I could upgrade on my current wearable when I came across this review. Thank you so much for explaining all tech stuff so clearly so that old duffers like me (62yrs old now) can understand. I've watched your reviews quite a bit over the years as I find this 21st Century tech fascinating. Your reviews are great and for some reason, you always remind me of Jeremy Clarkson. I like him too! Thanks Stu for all your videos and advice. I'm certain I will enjoy my new watch.
I love my Amazfit watches, I've had my GTR for over year now. And my Mrs got me the GTR2 for Christmas, it is a lovely watch indeed. Merry Christmas and thanks for another cracking video
Answer to your question. Hi Stu, this is the brand used in gyms, so I would guess it is reasonably accurate (Polar H9 Heart Rate Sensor). I have an older version of this with a watch and this works with most gym equipment. It was always giving me the same data wirelessly as compared to if you held the gym equipment sensors. I hope this at least points you in the right direction. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for an interesting review.👍 The best (non-specialist) HR monitor for baseline comparisons is the Polar H10 chest strap - regarded by many as the industry standard, and currently available for £65 (if not fussy about colour).
Thank YOU for watching them all and sticking with me. Another unboxing coming soon... but 2021 is going to have some HUGE reveals and projects that I can’t wait to share with you!
I still wish they change the message notification to the way pebble was, meaning display the content of last message received instead of '2nd message received' or '3rd message received'.
I like the spec of the honor ES... just not the form factor! The screen just looks a little too stretched IMO! But, as with all wearables... style is subjective!
@@StusReviewsUK I agree. I'm going to try the Bip U (the form factor is the reason - I also have a thin wrist). The on screen - is it responsive/quick to wrist movement? Thank you
Thanks for that review Stu. I already have the Apple Watch Series 3 which is non-cellular. I like the idea of the BIP U and BIP U Pro. The price point is definitely a game changer against the more expensive types of smart watch and the fact that it’s also waterproof is a good thing and I feel that I will be recommending it to my friends. I might even get one myself.
Where I wear it is fine for standard HR providing you’re wearing it correctly and not too loose. However for a SP02 rating it need to be higher up the arm like said, which is why I slide it up when showing the sp02 bit 😉
I absolutely loved my original bip. Big shame they've chosen a different screen technology for this new version as it removes my two favourite features of the original bip, the incredible battery life and the always on display. Still quite impressed they've managed to keep the price low considering the other new features however.
I think for the heart rate, you can compare it with any automatic BP measurement device from the pharmacy, usually, the automatic BP measurement have heart rate monitoring too.
I can tell you from personal experience the most accurate heart rate monitor is the Apple Watch, I got SVT, a condition where you heart beats rapidly all of a sudden no matter what you are doing, in 2019 and went to hospital in an ambulance twice with it, and my Apple Watch series 1 showed the exact same heart rate as all the monitors the Paramedics and the hospital had. If that helps you? Even the Paramedics were impressed with its accuracy.
I think you missed the point why people love original bip. Allways on display and 30 day battery are the best features. There is no single watch that can duplicate that.
I’m not sure I did... I actually said i would miss those particular features, and it’s a shame they aren’t in the bip u, and that it’s a trade off between the two with each holding its own for different reasons! So I’m not sure where you’re coming from with that 🧐 But when it comes to modern spec at the same value, the bip U is in a different weight class with it’s faster and more in depth feature set along with that far better display. There’s a reason they’re still selling the bip tho, because it’s still a babe. 👌
@@StusReviewsUK at this point I had to much scotch to discuss my opinion with you 😀. You are good reviewer Stu really enjoy your videos have good 2021.
I disagree for "best of 2021". The always-on-display and 30+ day battery life (and GPS) were the giant killer features of the original Bip. The Bip U is now just like any other entry-level watch from any manufacturer. All unique features removed. Average battery life and no always-on makes this release pointless. It will be discontinued by 2022.
Yeah like i said - it’s a trade off between the two. I loved the original features like you - but the new spec is solid and the greater fitness capabilities are top notch. In my opinion - The original bip no longer cuts it in that department in comparison
I'll just keep my Amazfit Band 5 which has an OLED screen and pretty much all the features of the Bip U Pro? except for GPS but it's cheaper so it's fine
Hi Stu, great review. Can I ask if you experience any WhatsApp or call notification issue or lag when using the Zepp app with Bip U? Will Bip U be able to auto reconnect to your phone if you go out of range and then come back in range again?
I really don't care about a crisper display. To me, this isn't a great successor to the Bip and Bip S. If there was a Bip 2 with all the new bio trackers (BioTracker™ 2 PPG) and functions BUT with the trans-reflective LCD, that would be a dream device! I used the GTS for a while, ditched the original Bip for it. A few months later, I went back to the Bip, because I don't have to sacrifice battery life if I want AOD. Maybe I should buy a Bip S to have better sensors, although still not as good as what the U has.
Hi All, if anyone has th e experience... When I start the exercise eg running, on the watch, does it automaticaly uses the GPS on the phone for the tracking of the exercise, or do I have to also set this at the beginning of every exercise on the phone? (why do I ask - I have often my phone hidden in my bag, so it is very unpractical, to start the exercise on the phone, thats why I want the smartwatch)
😂 if that’s the case... I’ve got quite a few time machines laying around. I’ve changed the title to a preemptive ? Rather than a stating ! From your feedback 👍
@Stu's Reviews For a precise heart rate measurement get a Polar H9 or H10 (www.polar.com/en/products/heart-rate-sensors ) - it connects to Bluetooth to your smartphone. It can be used with many apps, but I suggest you try Polar Flow (bit.ly/38y6PlH ) - it's fantastic.
Losing always-on mode AND a shorter battery life, seems more like a downgrade than anything else. I'm in the market for something to replace my original Bip since the battery isn't what it used to be 3 years ago and I'm seriously disappointed that even after all this time it's still the best budget smartwatch on the market.
Will be keeping my Amazfit Bip with always-on display with a month battery. No way would I Downgrade from an always-on watch that lasts a month, to a watch that only lasts a week and doesn't have always-on. What a disappointing product 'update'.
