Perhaps not many people know that this Hymn was written by St. Nectarios , a Greek saint in the island of Aegina . According to a tradition passed down on the island of Aegina, St. Nectarios reportedly composed the text for this poem after having seen a vision of the Theotokos in a dream where she asked him to record this poem. The poem was written much like a canon in that it has nine odes. The original script can still be viewed on his prayer table in his bedroom at this monastery.

I didn’t know why I started liking Arabic language even from long before hearing this song, until now. Now listening to this spiritual masterpiece I finally found my answer. There are three languages that the Orthodox chants sound the best: Romanian, Greek and Arabic.
Of course the they sound beautiful in Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Georgian, etc., but these three languages it seems that were created specifically for Orthodoxy, Orthodox Chants and the Divine Liturgy.
