Video quality is as good as this one !
The level of tranquility you'd need to master to repetitively attack these corners for 2 hours and believe that you're gonna be ok is beyond me
it's like what Jim Clark said (paraphrasing) "of course I have fear, without that any ole' bugger could get in a racing car"
People gush about the V10s, V12s etc, but the DFV produced my favourite sound. It was warm and familiar like the welcoming bark of a faithful old shaggy mongrel
This comment has brought a smile to my face and warmed the cockles of my heart. Thank you. 😀👍
Totally agree.
The sound of the 70s for me! ❤️👍
I'm crying. This is beautiful.
Depailler was far, far better than his record of two GP wins would indicate.
Absolutely.
One of the best drivers in my opinion in the 70s, underrated and one of the smoothest driving styles.
@@existAgreed, very consistent points finisher and often very unlucky (think Kyalami ‘78) also very few mistakes across his career. One of my all time heroes, beautiful car control shown here. Possibly not quite world championship material but certainly in the first rank. Imagine him in an improving turbo Alfa Romeo in 1982/83.
DFV is the best sound ever and nobody can convince me otherwise. V12 era is a close second but nothing can touch the DFV. It is THE definitive sound of a racecar
The way he flicked the car into sliding and quickly blasting out of that hairpin was fabulous.
You had to drive like that with the tyres they had back then.
This video is one of a kind, I come to watch this video a few times a year
One of the best F1 videos I've ever seen!
Yes it's high quality !!!
I could see an onboard of the 80 laps that the race lasted without getting tired.
I could see an onboard of the 80 laps that the race lasted and getting VERY tired. ;-0
He might have to reload some fresh film reels whilst pitting. It looks like before the onboard cameras that wirelessly beamed the video back to the main studio. But agree, I could be whole race from PD's view point easily.
Back in the day when F1 cars and their drivers had balls.
Oh no the cars now are safe and people don't die every 2 races
Depailler: a very good one, he's gone too quickly...😢
Real F1. Man and machine without unnecessary electronics
I read an interview with a Ferrari F1 mechanic from the 60s and 70s, he said nowadays F1 is more like a remote control car with a driver in it XD, obviously an exaggeration but some truth to it sadly...
@@t3hgiryeah he is coping
Drivers rn are significantly better
Ah yes, good old death trap days
My first ever F1 weekend at 12 years old. Epic.
That must’ve been amazing with those cars and Long Beach at that time 😎. Awesome!
Also my first F1 weekend - I was 18 years old. An unforgettable experience for sure
@@jzb8380 maybe you both ran across each other but you dont know😅
The speed... But, hand work. 😵😵
gold times for F1
Not in safety but definitely in badassery
The way the car handles, the mechanical sound of the DFV, the other cars, the track, the control of the driver. If anyones asks you what the root core of your love for speed, cars en engineering is, show this video.
Now this is what F1 should be like, nothing boring about this, it's electric and violent and amazing sounding bliss
Why can't modern cameras capture a sense of speed like this on TV? Such a great video
Edit: nah I'm capping, modern cameras are fine. This just hits different.
because we have now 16:9
I think the cars were more brutal and closer to the edge of control and there’s less car to see and it’s more the driver and the wheels. Maybe, anyway, but I agree. This is much more visceral.
@@dougmintz2943In other words, more downforce = less fun
@@kennedyshotfirst2534unless you're into mental bdsm
@@marcus6285It's definitely not that, it's the frame rate and zero motion and colour stabilization
No tyre blankets, no digital displays, just go out there, feel it and send it.
Tremendo Patrick. Que en paz descanse. Se le echa mucho de menos.
maestro de pista con grandes cojones
So how did qualifying work at Long Beach? Since the pit exit is some distance from the start/finish straight, does it mean that they don't have an outlap, they start their timed lap right away?
Very good sound and picture !🥇
Great video! Thanks for uploading.
Great race, I’m somewhere in the infield shooting film.
Champion without title that's Depailler
Plenty of opposite locking going on here, magnificent
incredible stuff
Damn, I forgot how cool the cars were back then.
Big respect !
Un millón de veces like!! Excelente on board! Manejate algo Patrick!!!
Finally found this video on high quality! its one of my favorites of all time but i had it on 360p only !
Spettacolo
Amazing!!!!
Just so raw. Loud. Beautiful. AND AN H PATTERN GEARBOX!
fucking badass!! ..
M E R C I !
That ATS sliding around in front...
I believe thats Jarier
The aerodinamics were so basic sliding around was still a good option
I was there that weekend. The second F1 race I went to.
1:27
I want this as a video game
0:30 DRS
Thought I remembered the LBGP circuit being far more fierce than today's layout, nice!
You can see the moment he gets into the zone and starts being way more aggressive with the throttle
Tell me this doesn't take as much or more skill than modern F1. Then what's the point of the continual advancement, the increasing speed, if we haven't mastered this level then why do we bother moving forwards?
Now this is a properly urban race track
dude nice
Gotta say proper sounding cars proper drivers no bullsh?t steering wheels that look like an apple Mac book just a steering wheel and a gear stick with three pedals 👍
wooowwwwwww.. tremendo
damn does this look way more brutal than seeing someone go that fast in a videogame
I’d take this over Las Vegas and Miami
👏👏👏
. . driving a race car literally . .. 3-pedal gear shift mode . . #resepct
Villeneuve had his race ending accident on the 1:08 mark, while ledaing the race in his 7th race overall.
Looks terrifying. Sideways out of every corner
when Formula one was for men
gold zim
gold times G1
ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN I N S A N E
one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the gear shift
Zen
Drivers were flirting with death every time they got into the car at this time
A What car does Depailler drive here?
Tyrrell 008
WTF!!!!!!!!!
comparing the actual formula one..that was the strongest race cars
You can tell, Hamilton fans who claim, he's the goat, have never seen this video
Back in the Days when F1 Really was F1 and not this 2020s weak drivers
F1 is more tough these days than the 1970s
Its just that the cameras are so smooth now it looks effortless.
They tried a new camera recently and it looks way more agressive:

For the love of God why not bring back Long Beach to F1? It’s a shame that degenerate cities like Las Vegas get to host it at all. Miami I understand but don’t like but it’s alright, better than Jeddah.
Long Beach or Watkins’s Glen for their importance to racing are unfortunately not economically sound for f1. I say bullshit
