Excellent tutorial on how to use a lathe ( correctly ! ) ..... however this device could have been made MUCH more simply ... use a steel ( or brass ! ) rod of the EXACT diameter for the wheel bearing , then just slide on some chunky rubber or plastic grips to each end ( for folk that do not have such a nice lathe ( Ha - Ha ) ....... DAVE™ 🛑

You should add to the title “Using tools everyone has lying around in their shop”.
When I buy $20 k lathe and $8k metal cut off saw, I will make that excercise roller which they sell for $30 in K-mart or wallmart...
I like the pyjama pans though.... have you got it in different colors ?

i got one of those i bought about 25 yrs ago for maybe 15 bucks, still in great shape and actually used it up until a year ago. mine isn't as pretty but it has bicycle grips on the axle.

Nice little shop. Apparently somewhere in China or Taiwan there's a factory that makes all these lathes. Mine is a different brand, and more or less as "top end" as you can get from Taiwan, but I think 95% of the parts for yours and mine are identical. The project...well...if I had a teenage daughter, maybe I'd make he one of those, but I think she'd rather have spare earbuds.

A piece of All thread rod, 2 lock nuts, center the wheel, lock nut on each side, hand grips on each end, man those Harbor Freight wheels are so sorry I'b be afraid they would come apart like that, BUT nice equipment & I see you have experience using them

yeah, myself, my kids and my grandkids and now my great grand-daughter all used the one i've had more than 2 decades, but at least he isn't in the local bar drinking and coming home to beat his wife or protesting and burning down the neighborhood. or like me laying on my fat ass watching tv or youtube.

Pajama bottoms are for two reasons:
1. comfort. That one obvious.
2. Easier to remove than any other leg wear for when it’s time to get lathed.

By the way a much lighter sturdy wheel made from polyamide designed on purpose for this kind of exercise costs less than half of your materials. Not to mension your work hours and energy consumption...
