this is definitely " smooth" its just not the typical smooth jazz sound, but its definitely smooth. I love how Grover ,Gerald, Kirk and Sandborn all add their own style to what they do. Music is not only technical and but it is also freedom of expression. Those guys can express themselves in a very intellectual way but also incorporate that smooth style to what they do. We don't always have to be so uptight when we play music.
I think the smooth jazz vs straight ahead jazz debate should die off and people should learn how to be more innovative. You can tell the difference between a person who's just trying to show off chops than a person whos playing from the heart those are usually the ones who change the game!
    anyways this was great btw!

Dave I really like how you phrase your solo because i think you are going from your paridy of smooth jazz phrasing to actually how you'd phrase a line and that is wonderful. Whats missing in the smooth jazz discussion is that guys like sanborn and albright and grover actually played the way they did because it was their style . The songs now all sound the same with 1000s of sax guys copying that "smooth style' . But your solo was your phrasing (in my opinion) and sounds very very good. K

The head you were experimenting on what you though a smooth jazz guy would do and then you went back to you on the solo. or I could be wrong K
