Went and saw this exact cast yesterday and can confirm I was in literal tears!!! The best show ever!!!!!
Surprisingly the lift rising a bit later still works well with the song
Umm. Why? Literally the musicality, the lighting, the tension, and everything that is happening on that stage is perfectly (and it IS perfectly because that creative team was firing on all cylinders) engineered to ensure she goes up at that specific point.
@@alexanderpage5185Girl don’t read it too deep, Ben meant it fits with the song & rising that’s it and I kind of agree. The lift already malfunctioned why care about the lights at this point.
Okay but the half lift to rising up is kinda fierce. Like it’s not as awkward as a no-fly, they’re still off the ground if it doesn’t go all the way up but if it continues to lift after a certain line, it’s like… she’s hovering to intimidate the guards and then she is FLYING!
Honestly, I think it worked in her favour. The slow rise with the song is just as powerful an image as seeing her already up there. It made this performance particularly unique, and hopefully stands out as a good memory amongst all the shows they perform.

Fr tho people be forgetting we’ve put these poor lifts through two decades of loud green girls
I mean, they use the same lifts for different productions as much as they can, they just get flown back and forth and transported from theatre to theatre, it's probably been used for the original production that opened in 2007/8 and probably used elsewhere for different projects. They don't come cheap, and it's a business after all. For the most part they do well, until you look at the Broadway lift which just looks like it needs to be put out of its misery.
Saw this a couple days ago in Melbourne and it was amazing, CHILLS everywhere she and Glinda were so good! (As well as the whole cast)
Wait the timing of the lift is lowkey fitting because she fully rises during the “and nobody in all of Oz” line.
During the preflight lines, the lift never moved forward and only went up like about a metre which left Sheridan behind the lights until the „I‘m flying high“ part. It was pretty weird to see irl since it was kinda hard to see Sheridan’s face but she did an amazing job and carried on like that was meant to happen
She completed her decent at the perfect time. She says I’m flying high then flys high. At least it made sense for that to be when she continues to rides
Lift was buggin' and I love her battle cry❤

holy crap you’re so right. I heard some similarities with Carla but now that you mention Julia, I hear it (and while she doesn’t do the same acting choices, I’d argue that she comes insanely close to Julia in terms of acting the character out)

I don't live in Perth, but I feel for you guys. Musicals almost never come to the West but Wicked 100% will with how big of a sensation it is (I mean the Sydney season extended from September 2023 all the way to Feb the next year if you wanna know how big)

This is always preferable to a no fly especially if they can even get her up just a little at first. It built up well. I hope they don’t take this down.
Is the lighting so automated that whoever supervises couldn’t have intervened?
I feel like even if the lights weren’t automated, it would be awkward to have them move up and then down towards sheridan to meet her where she’s at when they realised something happened (also didn’t help that she was behind the lights so even then it wouldn’t be much better)
I've seen one recently when the do manage to re program the lights, but it's very awkward, the lights are in their high flying state, then they flicker off and are back on her, I'm surprised they haven't got a pre programme no fly/lift malfunction, the only problem is if you re programme them as and when it happens, the auto ques all mess up, as your technically "overriding" the system. And yes wi ked is that automated, I've seen them not able to do shows because of automation failures.
Has there been a completely no-fly show in this Australian tour yet?
There was an actual no-fly the day after opening and I’m pretty sure one or two other instances but i wouldn’t know for sure

London has had several no-fly shows since mid-December. The UK Tour has also had a few since opening! 😬
