- Margaret Gallagher, 77, has lived off the grid in the Northern Irish countryside for her whole life. She survives with no running water, electricity or internet, forging a green lifestyle that predates current trends.

May God grant Margaret Gallagher her heart's desire to live out her days in the home she lovingly tended and preserved during her lifetime. Hope if her nephew doesn't want ancestral home, that he leases it to the foundation for preservation of the area with instructions to keep intact so that historic legacy is preserved (with Margaret's notes on how to maintain).
Brilliant! We could all learn a thing or two from her.
I hope 30 years from now, you are still going strong and still living in the house you love.
This lady is a wonderful example of living life on her own terms. Her way of life wouldn't be for everyone but it would be a very boring world if we were all the same.
Plus she's a damn sight happier and content than most people.
@The mysterious Miss X It is true that she was left the house but she cares for her father on a daily basis til he died in his 90s. Her sister had moved to England to work in the Civil Service and married an English man and settled there. There's not many people would take a house with no electricity, no running water etc. and still keep it that way but Margaret has and fair play to her.
She has one nephew who she has said before that she will pass this house on to when she dies but I seriously doubt he will live here as his permanent residence.

Pensioner? Pensioner? You can’t call her “mother”, you can’t call her “grandma” so you came up with a “pensioner”???? She's not a mother..shes not a grandmother has lived alone since her dad died. She worked for years in her village. I'm sure her pension is due to her work history not welfare.
Sassy Girl she is a WOMAN. Alternatively a PERSON. No role that she might have taken or not during her life defines her. Calling her that (or a mother, a grandmother) is demeaning.

P I watched her story so I had to look it up Glad that she is still alive and still living the way she does. Was wondering if her sister is still alive. They seem like very humble people. I have been to Ireland before but on the southern side my next trip would be on the northern side would love to see where she lives and visit with her..God bless her. Love her story.

Margaret is a true inspiration. My belovéd Mother passed away on 5 April 2023...She was my best and only friend. Now, as Margaret says, I am alone. I'm trying to get used to the solitude, but take heart from the fact that many others choose to live the 'single life' too....Margaret is a true inspiration to us all ❤❤❤

I love Margaret she's such an inspirational lady. I hope with every fibre of my being she gets to live her life out in her beautiful cottage. It makes sad for my own 400 year old Irish cottage that I had to leave. I miss it everyday 😢.
This takes me back to being a child in the 70’s when I lived in a cottage in Sligo. No running water we got it from a stream.. I can smell the neighbours fresh bread even now. Bliss.🤗💐

It looks beautiful, idyllic. Its very interesting listening to Margaret's thought's on living alone but not being lonely. I noticed that there appears to be two modern houses within walking distance, so help is there if need be. Margaret, will you accept help from the NI NHS, they will be turning up on the door with all sorts of gadgets, alarms, mobile phones ect. Anyway, all the best
