He wrote 2 New York Times Best Sellers Dad Is Fat (2013) and Food: A Love Story (2014) He co-created and starred in a tv series based on his life called The Jim Gaffigan Show. We saw Jim live and it was the best comedy show that we have ever seen. He was on stage for a long time, did extra stuff for the locals, and killed it. He is a living legend. Nobody does comedy like him. We love you, Jim!

My mom is Korean and the bit about desert buns filled with either chocolate or beans put me in tears. I grew up eating those bean buns and my white friends were like "nah I'm good...not hungry" lol. It does seem so weird lol

Man, you got balls, Jim ! to go in front of an asian audience and try comedy in English takes a lot, especially being upfront about being a foreigner. also, super nice to see an American be humble.

I love how freaking funny this pale fellow is without having to resort to being crude or dropping the F bomb every other word. I know it's a bit of a cliche at this point to say that cleaner humor is more difficult to write, pull off, and make funny, so the people that are able to accomplish all that are the true comedic masters, but what can I say, it's so true! And don't get me wrong I love me some dark/edgy humor that's intelligent and well done but in my mind it's still never quite on the same level as these comedians who mange to be genuinely funny without needing to shock. So, kudos to you, Mr. Gaffigan, wherever you are and thank you for the copious amounts of laughs I've gotten from watching all your stand-up specials!!!

Jim Gaffigan is very funny indeed, but frankly only idiots laugh at hearing cuss words. If a comedian is intelligent and amusing, it doesn't matter what language s/he uses -- I'll laugh at the jokes, not at the swearing, and I don't understand people who laugh simply because someone on stage uses four-letter words. That said, while I don't mind salty language, using lots of expletives for no good reason can quickly become tiresome, so yes, it's refreshing to listen to comedy that's appropriate for all audiences.

I agree that clean humor is difficult for many to pull off but I’ve never seen a comedian get laughs JUST for cursing. Bill Burr and George Carlin are insanely funny for the same reason as Jim, and that’s their unique delivery.

Jim’s work as a comedian is true gift. I’m a healthcare worker having to be away from my kids and family and it’s been so hard. So thank God I can keep going and still laugh through this pandemic b/c of him. God bless you and your beautiful family, Jim and Jeanie ! Also got Jeanie’s book and gained so much inspiration from her story. You guys are amazing.

I lived in Korea and Taiwan and traveled all around Asia and I LOVED this skit - so many observations. 1. Koreans "love" for Japan. 2. Taiwan being the rebel island and not being part of China. 3. The stinky tofu, truly a vile food item 4. Bean desserts 5. No personal space 6. Tissue boxes on tables 7. Heated toilets and the squatter holes. Great video

I think I’ve met a few of your cousins in Germany, Guyana, and California....
When I lived in Taiwan from 2009-2011, I would always talk to foreigners when I saw them. When I returned from 2015-2017, people just always wanted to be on their phones and it seemed like foreigners were a lot more common, in Taipei at least.
The expansion of the MRT over those 8 years (2009-2017) was astounding. Went from 50 or 60 total stops to well over 100.

I had a Japanese roommate in college and she would just put a little cling wrap over her chicken and rice on the counter and eat it in the morning.

The weird part about making this part of his act to an Asian audience is most won't get his point.

ive been to China and Taiwan alot as a white guy. I love immersing myself in their culture. i study martial arts so i go wherever i want. this is the first stand up that gives me the same feeling i have being there. if i could have written my own stand up it would sound like this. jim, youre in my head!. Also I'm a huge comedy fan and somehow i only discovered you this past week. Youre up there for me with me Chris Rock, Bill Burr, George Carlin, Anthony Jeselnik.

Matthew Stein there was one other act, I can’t remember that much about him, but I remember enjoying it. The whole show was fun, it was in a really beautiful theatre on a college campus near my house.

We were American expats living in Seoul for many years. These kinds of shows are always nice to go to; like a bit of home for awhile.
I totally thought the venue without the toilet...instead of "oh shoot", it would be "oh shit...nevermind, no toilet." (= Thank you Jim. As an Asian American, this skit was phenomenal and hilarious.

Hey Jim, I'm a Canadian who's been living in Taiwan for 15 years. This whole set speaks to me, man. Like, deep down.
It's so good to see the skill in pulling out of a bombing joke and getting great laughs with a language divide. Truly and inspiration to younger comics that can do this anywhere and never give up. Win some lose some and always win in the end with commitment.
I love the comment on Mongolia because my mom is from there and my dad is from Southern Utah (you can probably guess I’m Mormon haha 😅😅) but it’s so true!!
He’s so quiet in this set compared to his American sets
I'm guessing it may be a respecting the culture thing - generally overt loudness would be deemed as rude/offensive? I noticed a controlled volume in this set pretty quickly as well!

Everyone has different comedic flavours but Mr. Gaffigan is the best comedian hands down, and I love all comedy. When I hear him speak, all his premises, all his ambiguous observations, his ingenious subtleties and never having to curse once or revert to any potty humour puts him in class that no one is in and a level no comedian could attempt to venture into!
Thanks for posting new comedy stuff. Laughter really is the best medicine. I wish you would adopt me so I could travel around the world with you and your family. But, I’m older than you so I don’t know how that would work. I guess I could help watch the kids. Just a thought

Jim looked exhausted 😩.... such a trooper!... we have Japanese friends and the wife put out tissue paper as napkins. We didn’t say anything, but recently we were prepared to use napkins for toilet paper. So there you go.

Living in Vancouver, Canada we have many of the best Asian and Southeast restaurants this side of the ocean. Soup dumplings are awesome!!!
The no toilets I experienced in several Asian countries helped me realize I'm in terrible shape, haha!
PS, Jim, many of us have struggled with anxiety and mental health during COVID-19 and you have literally been a daily therapy bringing joy and hope to my life. God bless you and your family, and keep doing what you do, it's a medicine for many of us.

The "pretending to be able to speak English" bit was genius! In Taiwan they seem to say, "sorry I don't speak English"...in perfect English. Amazed that Jim was able to work up this much good material in such a short time and all while touring, that's talent!

If you haven't tried playing Go (Weiqi in China, Baduk in Korea, Igo in Japan) you really should. It's challenging, but is really a wonderful strategy game. Great for kids too. I used to volunteer at the Boulder, Colorado Kid's Go club, and there was a little 6 year old Korean girl who would sing while she played, and would still beat me by over 30 points.

Lol I’m American and the best burger I’ve ever eaten was in a small restaurant in japan that only had 5 seats. I wish we had more family restaurants here.

I love Mr. Gaffigan,, because of his humor. Sure, there is some light launguage occasionally used in his routines,, but at the end of the day,, its something to laugh at. Modern "comedy" is a joke, in a bad way. So thank you Jim,, for bringing back pure humor.

I was stationed in Japan in the 80s. One afternoon I decided to go exploring even tho I had the beginnings of a cold. I thought that I had more than enough KLEENEX with me but on my way home I realized my runny nose was running much more than I anticipated. I stopped in a little shop that I could see sold paper products exclusively. (At least back then many shops in smaller cities were selling 1 type of product.) I tried desperately to get across the idea that I wanted to purchase some KLEENEX, but was getting nowhere. I actually thought of just leaving the shop and trying to find somewhere else, but for some reason I thought to do that would be a slap in the face to the shop owner.
It wasn't until someone realized that I wanted to buy tissues, that we got anywhere.
Looking back, I think that I must have come across as an alien from outer space or as an animal that had escaped from a zoo wearing human clothes.
